12packAbs Diary

So we are getting deck pics, huh? Maybe one from the party with everyone on the deck? Sounds like a worthwhile project.... but I guess you are glad it's (almost?) done.

I'm sorry you had a difficult period a week or so ago. Are you feeling ok now?

I actually am feeling a lot better now Patty, thanks.

This weekend was good (I love long weekends). I took Friday off and Monday was a holiday (Canada Day - yay :eh: ). I spent Friday and Saturday finishing off the deck and doing some landscaping around it. It's pretty much done and it looks fantastic!! I was staining the deck until midnight on Friday and I still have some touchups to do with the railings, which I'll get to next weekend or so. We put a gazebo and some patio furniture on it and it looks really good! I didn't take any pictures yet, but I'll get some on here so I can show what's been keeping me so busy. We had a great party on Saturday, except that it was too cold! It's supposed to be hot! We also had family over on Sunday for a birthday dinner and I BBQ's up a feast.

So today is the now the first day of the rest of my summer. Now that this project is done, it's time to get back on track and enjoy! I'm going back to karate tonight and tomorrow night and getting into the gym for a lunchtime workout on Thursday. Then this weekend I'm taking my 5yr old for his first camping trip - it should be a lot of fun.

The only problem with the deck building is that my hands are very sore and numb a lot of the time. If I sleep on my side, that hand goes numb now. I can't hold onto things for very long (i.e. like a coffee cup) or it hurts like crazy. It's mostly in my right hand, and seems to be a result of the hammering, sawing and building in general. Hopefully this goes a way soon as it's driving me crazy!

Congrats on finishing the deck. Must be a relief. I hope you have lots of fun with your little guy on your camping trip. :)
As for the hand thing, that should take care of itself. I guess it's very similar to the weird shaky feeling you get in your muscles after a long workout. Except, you've been doing the same repetitive activities for so long that that sensation is sticking around longer. But definitely check into it if it lasts much longer!

That sounded like so much fun! BBQ, birthday....too bad it was cold. I hope your 5 year old loves camping, and I hope your hand feels better soon! :)

It really was a great weekend! And my little guy is excited about going camping - roasting marshmallows and sleeping in a tent and the whole thing. I really hope he enjoys it - that way him and I can go camping regularly. Eventually I'll take him on canoe trips too!

Today the eating isn't bad...

Breakfast - 2 slices raisin bread, egg whites
Morning snack - Apple
Lunch - grilled chicken breast, grilled peppers, large salad (baby greens and baby spinach with regular dressing) and some cantelope
Afternoon snack - yogurt with flax seeds
Later afternoon snack - probably a bagel
Evening - 2 hrs of karate
Late dinner - likely some grilled sole and some salad

Well, yesterday was a pretty good start to the workweek. I ate fairly well and go in a good hour of karate. We didn't have a class, but I just trained on my own practicing lots of striking and some kata as well. My hands are cut up now, but no big deal. I didn't reach for any treats (or beer) at all yesterday, which was great. I also stopped by the grocery store on the way home and got stuff for lunch and snacks so I'm set for eating well all week.

Breakfast: Bowl of just right cereal (didn't feel like having any protein this morning)
Snack: Banana and almonds
Lunch: Brown rice pasta with meat sauce, Large baby spinach salad with olive/flax oil & balsamic vinegar, yogurt with some flax seeds added
Snack: Baby carrots & cottage cheese
Dinner: Lunch: Brown rice pasta with meat sauce, Black bean salad

Extra snacks: Banana & an apple

Tonight I'm expecting to have a pretty intense training session. With some big tournaments later in the summer, training intensity has been stepped up at karate lately.

aaawww you have a 5 yr old son - how sweeet - are you married as well ??? I have a 3 yr old little girl :):):) and a 13 yr old girl - you forget how young and sweet they are - ha ha ha - camping awesome - we are gonna try some of that this summer...I used the excuse of the little one is too young for too long - hee hee hee - Im glad you finally go the deck done...

Yep - 10 years now. I wanted to wait until the little guy was old enough too - but I know people that have taken their kids camping when they were only a few months old. I guess it's whatever your comfortable with - but I think it's good to introduce them to stuff like that at an early age. I hope your kids enjoy the camping too!

HA:D I took my youngest when she was 6 months old and we havent been since - hee hee hee - all Iremeber is how horrible it was - she was crawling htrough the fire pit and all the dirt and had to be couped up in the play pen not fun if ya ask me - I hope it all goes well - Im looking forward to hearing abt it - kudos on being a great involved dad:)

Thank you! I do try to involve him in everything - I really enjoy being a dad. Maybe we'll get to try some fishing too! If not this time, then it's just a matter of time - I miss fishing - it's been years for me.

I haven't strayed at all from my planned food today, which is good! Tonight should be one hell of a calorie burning session!

Tomorrow I'm planning to get back into the gym, and I'm totally pumped and ready to get back to regular weight training. I totally feel better when I'm weight training. I think I'll be doing 2 days per week for the next little while with probably 3 karate classes per week and hopefully some cycling when I can squeeze some rides in. Woohoo!

Wow...tough training session last night - I wasn't sure that I was going to make it through the whole thing, but I did. After having the two days in a row of karate, I thought I'd take today as a rest day and get to the gym tomorrow as I'm only getting in three workouts this week (and why make them three consecutive days). I was pretty hungry by the time I got home last night, so I microwaved some egg whites. There were 2 chicken strips and some oven fries left over, so I ended eating those while my egg whites were cooking. I did follow my planned meals and snacks otherwise, so I had a decent day.

Woohoo your back on track baby :D:D:D
