Hi,

I've lost 120 lbs now (111 lbs between the pictures) and my friends and family are encouraging me to stop. They are convience that I am getting to skinny, which according to my bmi I am not. I'm 5'6 and 1/2 (169 cm) tall and currently weigh 176 pounds. My goal weight is 130 pounds.

What is your opinion? Should I continue on?

Laura

wow...you look amazing! i think that if you WANT to lose more...then you should! but you look fantastic already! WTG!:hurray:

Wow, you look fantastic! Just simply ignore your family and friends. They obviously don't know much about you and your body so just stick with it. You're doing it for yourself, remember that! :)

You are unbelievably cute btw! :D

amazing job on the progress so far =)

Don't let your family shackle you on what your goals are. When I was still... 190 I believe I was getting "you're getting too skinny" "Dont develop anorexia" and stuff. But I was eating more than them lol, just healthier. I still get "You're getting too skinny" when I've been the same weight for 6 months now ^^.

Just keep going untill you feel like you're comfortable, you'll know when. It's the point when you reach your weight and you can even start slacking a bit and your body will still maintain it's new weight.

Congrats on your loss.

The thing about families (and friends to some degree) is that they aren't always good judges of what's healthy for you. They are used to seeing you very overweight, so to see you lose so much weight probably gives them a skewed perception of what is healthy. They also may be afraid that you won't stop losing - and will just keep going and going.

I would say reassure them that you aren't just losing weight to look good, but that you want to be a HEALTHY weight. Let them know that you're basing your goal off of the healthy BMI range and that you aren't going to overdo it, but that it's important for you to be healthy and fit.

I don't think 130 is unreasonable for you. I'm about 2" shorter than you and currently weigh 170 ... my goal is also 130, but I might wind up going lower, just depending on how I look/feel when I get there.

Do what's healthy for you and don't let friends and family sway you otherwise. :)

You look amazing already but I you are right that you are not in a healthy weight yet. I think that people do see us so large that when they see us small they think...that's enough but we aim to be healthy. And wether they like it or not, some bones are supposed to be visible! lol! I never had that until recently. But keep going until you feel you have reached your healthy goal, if you start to go below what the BMI or doctor would like, then it might be an issue but otherwise, go for your goal girl...can't wait till I'm am where you are...you look so good.

We appear to have very similar builds and starting weight. I weigh right now 184 (5'8) and wear a size 8. The things to consider when finding your goal weight are: what type of frame do you have (small, med, large), bone density, muscle mass, age, gender, loose skin/fat pad which is something those of us in the 100+lbs club do have to look at.

Have you talked to a competent doctor about your goal weight? Meaning someone who has figured out your body fat % vs a straight cut number formula that may or may not represent you. For me my doctor set goal weight is 170 when I reach it I will most likely be a 4-6/smalls that number seems big but take into account I am large framed, dense bones, and have lots of muscle mass from lifting the last 10 months. I would just urge you instead of letting BMI dictate your goal weight make sure you are making an informed safe decision for yourself.

As for family and friends the thing to remember is people like putting other people in boxes. Anytime you change yourself and step out of your box it drives them nuts. They keep saying "You look so thin stop" and other things because they are uncomfortable with you changing. Remember you started loosing weight for YOU. If your doctor starts to say things like that then it is time to pay attention but someone who's preconceived box idea you have stomped on... just ignore and keep in keepin on!

Wow, that is just great! Congratulations!

I agree with what thicky and WilTX said. If you want to keep going, keep going. If you think you're done, that's fine too. Just stay healthy, that's the most important thing. I think you look fantastic, btw!

Super amazing job! You must be proud of yourself...quite inspirational. I have no excuse now! lol Can't wait to see further progress. :)

wow u look very cute now it is amazing how u have done it :)

it would be good if u told us the recipe

Have you been to the Doctors for blood work done recently? I would continue to lose until you see results from your blood work. I was taken off some medication after significant weight loss so I think it's good to see medical results first and opinions from Doctors rather than listening to friends and family. My family always says to stop and I can respect that. I think they fear I am becoming manorexic. But I eat, I just don't eat Whoppers and Big Macs anymore lol

Also are you in your healthy range with regards to BMI?

You look great BTW, congrats.

You lost SO FAST!!!! Dang...the only only way I can lose that fast is if I am sick.lol YOU LOOK GREAT!!! Be sure you don't get so focused on the scale that you forget about muscle. Muscle will give you the sexy shape you want. I try to focus more on that...than actual numbers. To each his own. WTG GIRL!!!

You can safely lose more weight no problem, but consider that BMI is a horrible horrible thing that wasn't even invented by a doctor.

Oh and it was created in the mid 1800s

It is virtually worthless. Let common sense and body fat % rule when deciding on a good goal weight.

A 2005 study in America showed that overweight people actually had a lower death rate than normal weight people as defined by BMI.

If your goals are healthy, there isn't any reason for you not to try and achieve them.

You look great, you did an amazing job! I'm sure you'll hit your goal. You've already gotten well past the hard part (starting).
