Alligatorob's Diary

what was in the bucket? i don't even know that many west coast fish.

Hi, Rob. It's good to have you back. The fish look good, even if you didn't catch many. I'm actually posting that card today at last :) I have put a few local pamphlets in with it.

Today was a good food day, but yesterday was not. My last day in Florida I ate too much, but am trying to get back on track.
Wow, beautiful fish. Glad you had a good trip and that you had fun!!
Thanks Marsia, it was a really good trip.

The big one was a mutton snapper, other fish we kept were mangrove snapper, lane snapper, yellow tailed snapper, amberjack, triggerfish, and a few key west grunt. Caught and had to release a lot of big grouper, out of season. Got over 100 lbs, but that was between 5 people, should have been about 4 times that. Fun anyway.

Thanks Cate, and I am looking forward to the post card +.

Just did almost 3 hours in the gym, it was 3 hours if I get to count time lost with the problem I had with my code getting in, LOL. I did not plan to do that long on my first day back, but it seems to be fine and the last 50 minutes was a Tabata class I had forgotten would be happening, so I stayed. It was good. Tomorrow is a regular 3 hour day for me, will see if I can do it back to back.
Not binging is excellent, even if you overate a couple of times.
Well, on my last day in Florida I had a near binge experience, ate too much. But its over now! Thanks Lama.

I’ve spent 3 hours in the gym a couple of times but it’s usually just 2 hours. But the way I workout I’m probably only active for 15-20 minutes for each hour. So much rest time between sets.

It was a good day, I have started to try an IF diet, 8/16 to start. Just skipping breakfast for now. Tomorrow will be a challenge, I will be going to the gym before eating anything, never done that. Will see how it goes.

I do some resting when working with the trainer, but on my own I don't. However I do not push real hard, my workouts are probably longer and slower than most.

I take a full 3 minutes rest between sets and I take a 4 minute rest before the last set of each exercise when I’m going to be at the heaviest weight and trying for reps to failure or almost failure. but the first few sets of each exercise are fairly light and I do higher end repetitions, sometimes as much as 30 reps with strict controlled form.

Power lifters take 9 to 10 minutes between sets and they’re only doing 1 to 4 reps.

Longer rests make sense if you're working on max strength but if you just want to be active and move your body less weight and fewer breaks are fine.

More than fine. My style is purely for maximum muscle building and aesthetics. Not optimal for strength or fitness.

3 hours and 5 minutes in the gym today. 50 mins of circuit training, 50 minutes of lifting, 50 minutes of Tabata and 35 minutes of general exercises, mostly bands. I am tired but it felt fine. I did it without breakfast and that seems to make little difference. I am trying IF, 8/16, skipping breakfast. Only a couple of days and today is my first gym exercise without eating.

When I work with the trainer, two or three 50 minute sessions per week, I do a 1 1/2 or two minute rest. Try to do all the reps I can, to fatigue, 3 or 4 sets. More conventional weight training. In Tabata we do 20, 30, or 40 seconds of exercise with 10, 15, or 20 seconds of rest. In the circuit training I take no rests. When exercising on my own I take no rests, I usually rotate or superset to rest specific muscles whilst using another. I only push as hard as I am comfortable pushing, in classes sometimes I keep up, but often I don't. Doesn't bother me one way or the other just so I get exercise. Probably most of my resting comes in the transition from one exercise to the next, cleaning of equipment with disinfectant has been required for Covid, that adds a bit of rest time. I ain't no power lifter!

Yes, that is my objective general fitness mostly. I am not trying to build muscles for aesthetic reasons, way past that kind of thing. I have noticed some increase in muscle size and definition, feels kind of good, but don't think anyone else has noticed, the changes are not huge.

You appear to have done a great job, and I am sure your strength and fitness are just fine.

That's a really good session at the gym, Rob. I assume you don't take blood pressure meds. My head would be spinning trying to do that without food. I hope IF works for you. It makes so much sense, so long as you make sure you're getting the right nutrition.

my easiest days are when i am active. i'm usually up early in the morning and if i get hooked on a project, it will be noon or later before i know it. days i sit around and binge watch something and i look at the clock thinking it's time for my IF breakfast and it only reads 10am. whenever i need help i always think back to the stone age when you didn't eat breakfast until you went out, tracked down something and killed it.

A good day, I managed to skip breakfast for the IF and still do the gym. I am a bit sore tonight, most likely the result of 2, 3 hour gym days right after a week+ off for vacation.
My cardio will get better as the warmer weather comes in and I start bike riding again.
I'm looking forward to warmer weather and getting outside more soo too.

With respect to blood pressure I am very lucky, it is quite low and always has been, even when I was over weight. No need for meds. So far so good on the IF, will probably try another empty stomach at the gym day tommorrow.

Same here, my toughest days are the ones where I just sit around. I was just a bit worried about doing a lot of exercise on an empty stomach, but today was ok, will try again tomorrow.

Just did 3 hours in the gym. Tabata class first, then exercise on my own, then yoga. Ending with yoga feels good, the ultimate stretch.

This was without breakfast first, sticking with the no breakfast IF. It seems ok, I don't think the lack of breakfast is hurting.

If you're ok with fasting in general then a mild fasted workout is fine. 3 hours of intense exercise probably wouldn't be great. I'm not a fan of fasting and still like to work out before breakfast. Doesn't get me the best results for either strength or endurance but it feels good.

I once woke up at 2:30 am four days in a row for a hiking event and eating was the last thing on my mind. By the time my stomach was awake enough to eat I'd've walked so much my body wasn't interested in food anymore. So I'd walk 50 km a day on a couple of crackers, some fruit, and half a dinner portion. For more intense exercise I definitely prefer to have something in my stomach though.
