Sparrows Experiment

recovered in what way? what does Glutamine do? I know i can look it up, but I like you better. :hug2:

It helped me with overtraining...or potential overtraining. I also felt like I had better VO2 Max. There are so many things I'm revisiting now that I'm not sure why I ever stopped! This is a good one, try and add it.

Finished the day with another swim-it was the one I missed yesterday so I'm on schedule to finish my week right. Today was a good training day!

200 swim, 200 kick, 200 pull, 200 skull
16x50 decending (getting faster) in groups of 4 @1:00
4x50 choice @1:00 cool

swim:

4x75 free (last 25 backstrok)

4x750 free (1:00 between each)

4x50 kick/swim cool down

3500 total

The 750s sucked royally but I do feel stronger in the water here on Friday than I did on Monday.

Last workout for the week. Praise the Lord.

weights: all 3x15

Bench Press
flyes
front shoulder raise with static hold
DB shoulder press
reverse crunch on bench
v-ups
DB push ups with single arm DB row (obliques and lats)

swim:
300 swim, 300 kick

1800 non stop RPE 4

4x50 easy

I could handle the endurance today, thank goodness. I was worried a few days ago about my swimming. I've had trouble getting my breathing back in the water. Today I felt like my old self. I did the 1800 in 27 minutes.

Happy Mothers Day all you moms

Hope all moms and mums had a nice day :) I did. I had to share with my daughter and her 9 year birthday tho! I lost most of the day to her :) its okay.

Since when do 9 year olds ask for SEWING MACHINES for their birthdays? yeah, that was her request (since Christmas) and so she got one. lol. I'll learn quickly if this is a phase or something really worth getting. She is ultra creative though so I can see this being a well loved item.

So today was my day off and I have to tell you that after going 6 days in "go" mode I didn't want to sit still today. But I did, and I ate a lot of garbage that is NOT "tri-friendly" (and oddly wasn't even that good) so I need to come clean again this week. Tomorrow is going to hurt no matter what just because I strayed one friggin day. Thats the penalty of the sin :( Remind me sometime soon again....its not worth it.

I'm stressin a bit because I've viewed the upcoming iron training weeks and their requirements. I simply do NOT have time to do some of the stuff. My Saturdays are now eaten up by swim meets and Sundays are church related activities. The regular week I have my little one with me all the time except Mondays-my husbands day off. Potentially I can shift and do some long stuff on Mondays and try to avoid the roll of the eyes. ugh, its making me crazy. Here's to another week...

Hmm so let's see, you're dealing with a 9 year-old who is adamant about what she wants. I wonder where she gets that from?

As for the cheats, don't beat yourself up over them, as you have to live a little too (just make sure they're worth it).

Very nice avatar by the way.

Iron training day 7

Run: 60 min: 10 min RPE 2-3, 6x(6min tempo/2 min rest), 10 min RPE 2

I did my "tempo" minutes at 8 min mile pace and it was cake. The whole thing felt very strong. I wanted to keep going. I did 6.7 miles

Swim:
300 warm up,
10x100 odd free tempo/even IM .10 sec rest between each
4x75 backstroke kick

I'm hoping to get on my bike later. Its very windy here today.

Tuesdays workout

75 min spin. Wish it had been my road bike

We did 4 "laps" of 12 min each simulating an oly tri in Pacific Grove (near Monterey in CA). Each lap: flat road with strong headwind, medium hill, steep hill, dowhill sprint (with lots of resistance). My legs were completely fried after this class. My plan called for 75 min bike but not THIS yard

weights: 3x15
squats
bi curls
tri dips
deadlifts

I had more planned but friends kept stopping me to talk. I'm not sure how to keep this from happening, I'm not the type to tell them to "go away, I'm training right now" lol.

Todays workout:

30 min run RPE 3 was called for but I did it more like RPE 6-7

2x1200 swim

B-O-R-I-N-G

If you have an Ipod/mp3 player, try wearing the headphones. Even if you don't actually have it on, it should create a pretty good "Don't bother me" vibe.

... or be like me and not have any friends (my forum friends notwithstanding of course);)

Well I must be really approachable because I DO have it on and they still come over to talk to me! lol

ha. Well that was the only good thing about being strictly "gym rat" before I got into triathlons. Nobody knew me, nobody cared and I could pretty much guaranty an uninterrupted workout :) course it IS more fun to have friends

45 mile bike trail ride today. Pretty strong head wind both directions...how in the world does that work??! My cruising speed today was 21, my average pace was 21.6.

21.6 is a very nice average for 45 miles!

I wouldn't have done that on my own. I never average that fast-ever. I had a hitch-hiker at my turn around place (about 23 miles) and he just didn't shake so I went faster and faster (this was my first experience of someone drafting off of me and it BUGGED me!). For the first 23 miles I was fresh but I really didn't want to go THAT fast after that. We were jammin the straights at 24 mph, the downhills at 30 and the hills no less than 19. It was crazy and my legs were on fire. Ultimately, it was good for me, but I was kinda irritated while it was going on!

I think I told you my view on someone grabbing my wheel: if it is not a timed event, then it's a training ride for me and I'm gonna get more out of the ride if I don;t draft, so I rarely draft anymore on group rides unless I need the draft to make it back. And, I would never grab someone else's wheel without asking or offering to pull. That's standard road etiquette.

As weird as this sounds, after my two bouts with heart procedures, little things just don't bother me as much as they did when I was younger. I guess that's one of the rare benefits of advanced age:D

But the more important question: were you ever able to shake him?

NO I wasn't. Not only that, Richard, but all along I'm thinking this is some young tri-punk guy behind me and its bothering me that hes back there staring at my butt. lol. We get to this park where I decided to SLOW the heck down and refil water. He slowly passes by me and says "ma'am your back tire looks a little low". Its a wonder I even heard him say that because I was busy being STUNNED that this was some "old guy" (white hair, had to be 50-60 years old, no kidding) that had been tagging along the whole time! He didn't seem to be winded at ALL either. It made my whole effort seem totally embarrassing!

Wow, Sparrow, I'm gonna keep this post as motivation for when I turn 50 next year;)

Seriously, though, there are a lot of fast older (we prefer "older guy" rather than "old guy" :D) guys out there. I ride with Glenn who is 68 and can average 20 - 22 mph for half a century.
