Just basically looking for some exercises to make my lower back stronger as i sometimes get pain in that area..

I'd never go over 10 reps for deads because I think form starts to suffer if the reps get too high and deadlifting with poor form will do your back more harm than good.
Personally I think deads are most effective when performed in the 1-3 rep range
To only make it to 3 reps would require me use quite heavy weights.... won't i damage my back?
