Petals diary

Why on earth can life not just be simple. I know in the grand scheme of things it's not important but this morning we have no water.

I honestly think that would tip me over the edge. I am feeling the strain.

We lose our water when the power goes out, which happens a couple of times a year. If you know it's going to happen it's not so bad, but when you don't it's horrible. I always have water containers filled just in case. Glad it's back on, Petal.

I think it’s time I looked at water containers too for emergencies. How many do you have Cate ? Yes we have no water when no power only what we have in our tanks .
Yesterday at lunch I had cooked roast beef with roasted butternut squash , steamed broccoli, cauli, green beans , and a little piece of carrot and about qtr of potato. Teatime I had toasted sourdough bread with a scrape of peanut butter and banana . All very delicious.
Did my walk and a visit .
it’s got so dark and wintry here now .
new covid restrictions today let’s see what happens .

Lunch sounds delicious! (For dinner you managed to have only things I can´t eat so I have no opinion :D ) Well done getting outside in the fresh air.

Petal, I have about 10 5-litre containers filled. The only water we have is tank water, but the pump doesn’t work when the power goes out.
Your food sounds delicious.

Ok I might start to do that too Cate . We actually buy water in 5l bottles for our dog ( yep we drink tap and the dog gets bottled lol ) so I will start to fill them and store in garage and at least we have water for loos or to boil up so we can have a wash if it happens again . Horrific day here .

When I lived in Florida the water line coming to our house was located in a place that washed out in every hurricane and some tropical storms, that and we had a very small and inefficient water supply company. We got used to having to keep spare water on hand, particularly for toilet flushing. We kept several cases of bottled water in reserve and at least one 5 gallon bucket in every bathroom. Here you can get used 55 gallon drums pretty cheaply, keeping a couple of those in the garage would be a good source. Also remember that if your water heaters are anything like ours they contain about 40 gallons of water, you can always use that.

I recall one morning about 4 am I was all lathered up in the shower getting ready for a business meeting when the water went off. At least I had some cool water to wash the soap off with.

Water interruptions are a real pain, but we can live without running water. When I was much younger I lived in a cabin without running water. I know you learn to wash and get by fine without it, but sudden unexpected interruptions are different. Now here in Utah we are on a public water supply, very dependable, so far.

Nice looking coffee shop Rob
Yes, the original Cafe Du Monde in New Orleans' French Market really is. In the heart of the French Quarter it's quite large and famous and they serve nothing but beignets, coffee and orange juice. The coffee is very dark, originally with chicory, but now you can get it without, also black or au lait. Unless things have changed they have not gone the multiflavored coffee route, for the best I think. It appears from the website that they have opened new locations elsewhere, hope they are up to the original standard.

Oh sorry I meant the day as in the weather was horrific . Not sure it will be better today.
Thank you for the tips re water storage Rob .

Yesterday was busy I did however make some nice food . Lunch was a prawn salad and some soup leftover. Dinner was a butter chicken which I served with roasted squash and broccoli and for me just a small portion of rice. Kids had some flat bread too. It was very like a chicken tikka masala , very tasty.

So em has probably told you but we are back in level 5 restrictions. I am not sure how that will affect me workwise as technically I should be working from home but I am probably ok. the lockdown does not make sense to me as schools remain open. We have 2 suspect cases now in work both have originated from people living with teachers . Still we will just get on and do what we are told .

Another piece of news here in Ireland our resident do,phone who lives off the coast of Ireland is missing . His name is fungi . He is huge tourist attraction and very loved by people. Hope they find him

All the best to Fungi but he IS an old man - probably as old as me! Still: I hope he returns and has another 30 years of spreading joy. Or even better: maybe he´s found some dolphin friends.

Apologies for my bad typing . I really struggle at times to see on here and dolphin somehow became a do phone . Hmmmm lol

Thanks for the Fungi info, I did not know you had bottle-nosed dolphins in Ireland, looks like the same species we had in the Gulf of Mexico. Human oriented dolphins like Fungi are rare. I grew up calling them porpoises and still do most of the time. That is wrong of course, there is a related marine mammal called a porpoise, but its a very different species. Florida has been trying to get people to use the right name, so its mostly us older folks who keep getting it wrong. Anyway hoping for the best for Fungi, but it sounds like he has lived to about the end of a dolphin's life expectancy.

Your food always sounds great, you hit a lot of my favorites, shrimp salad, squash, broccoli, and I'll bet your butter chicken is delicious!

No problem reading your typing, dolphin or do phone, either work. The important thing is that you are here!

Aww thanks Rob . Sometimes I can’t see what I am typing . Maybe I should get a laptop . Actially I might be getting my old work one apparently.
Food today
Berries organic natural yogurt and flaxseed and flaked almonds . Small red apple and 20g cheese . Steak broccoli , squash and a few sweet potato fries with some balsamic vinegar . Small slice of sourdough toasted with peanut butter and small banana .
Official weight loss 1.5lb since we started lose a Turkey

Well done on the weight loss Petal. Let's press on. I feel like it might be harder in Level 5, but it's hard anyway, so I'm really going to try to go for it now.

Did you get your eyesight tested that time?

My laptop makes typing in the forum so much easier. I hope you do get one, Petal.
That's not much food for a whole day. Well done on the 1.5 lb loss :)

That's great news, however I prefer your bags of Irish sugar units.
