Alligatorob's Diary

Well it sounds like she is in the know. My son struggles to eat protein and fat but he doesn't have a big appetite. And he could do with eating about 3000 cals min a day . Will be interested in how you up the protein

I have a lot of trouble getting enough protein too, Rob. It’s not easy.

It was a good day, ate well, exercised and I feel good tonight. I did 2 hours and 15 min in the gym, a new high and though tired when I finished it felt good. I got to my fat goal, but was still short of the 150 grams of protein. I even bought some protein powder and put it on things, but I am not sure I can get to 150 grams of protein on a 1,500 calorie diet. I will keep working on it.
Well it sounds like she is in the know.
Yes she does have some expertise, but no more than some of the folks here do. And it seems to me that every expert has a somewhat different opinion. I will try to make the 150 grams a day protein, but it may be a struggle. Myfitnesspal sets a goal more in the 100 gram range.

Yep, I am discovering that, do you have any suggestions?
Glad to hear your trainer agrees that you're doing great and can stand to eat more!
Yes, she agrees with about 90% of the advice I have gotten from you and the others. I am not valuing her advice above yours, it was just one more push, one that I needed.

Don't fret if you can't get to the 150 g of protein quite yet. That's hard on 1500 kcal! You don't have to be perfect to be good. I would've saved myself a lot of trouble if I'd internalized that years ago. You are doing amazingly well and have been for a long time already.

Using her calculator she said I should be eating at least 33 grams of fat and 150 grams of protein.

Wow so much protein!!--i still have trouble trying to make it to 46 grams! I do find the protein drink helps me if I can't get there with just food, but that does seem like a helluva lot!

2 g of protein per kilo of bodyweight IS a lot. I think she's going with "strength athlete trying not to lose muscle mass during a cut"?

It was a good day, I ate well, got some exercise, and feel good tonight. I suceeded in getting over 150 grams of protein and stayed under 1,500 calories, but it was a real effort. I had 4 scoops of protein powder, and fell short of fat in doing it. Not sure I will keep trying... My exercise was work around the house. I had to remove an old swamp cooler and fix the hole in the wall to get ready for a new air conditioner that will be installed Monday. I worked at it for over 8 hours, not a gym workout or a walk, but I am tired tonight.

Thanks LaMa, I did make it today, but don't think I will consistently. I like the not having to be perfect to be good idea, I am sure I will never be perfect.

Yep, today I proved it possible, but probably not practical long run.

You are probably right, she has been using those words, pretty much exactly. I am just trying to be fit and gain some strength, I don't need to be a "strength athlete", just healthy.
I have MFP set for 40% carbs, 30 fat & 30 protein.
Thanks, I did not know you could set your own MFP goals, I have just been using whatever was in the thing to begin with. I will try adjusting.

if it feels punishing to get your protein that high on low calories and especially if it leads to you missing out on other important things (like fat) just don't. You've been eating over 100 g of protein pretty consistently if I remember correctly (which is a very decent number at your current weight!) and I'm sure it'll keep going up as your calories continue to go up. As long as your intake is pretty varied (ie not just fruit :p ) I don't think you have to worry about it anymore at this point.

Agree with all the others on the protein. I think you are eating a very healthy and varied diet now . Remember when you were at the 800 cals and we were all asking you to eat more lol . You cold maybe throw in a slice of cheese a day to get your protein and fat in one go . On slimming world we are advised we can have 40g of low fat cheese or 30g regular a day ( there are others options if you want to know more ) and I think it's so we get calcium , protein , fat .
I think I would prefer a few nuts on my yoghurt than protein powder too .i think you can find some good low calorie ways to get all the nutritional values you require

It was a good day, ate pretty well, exercised and I feel good. Did an hour and 45 minutes at the gym. I did make both the 150 gram protein and 33 gram fat goals today, but only barely. Will keep trying, but not feel bad if I don't, on the protein anyway.

Thanks LaMa, and yes I have been around 100 grams of protein a day, except the high fruit days. I am not going to worry about it so much.
Working around the house for 8 hours sounds like a good amount of exercise for sure!
Yeah it is and it feels good. A good break from the gym.

Thanks Petal, I do remember the 800 calorie days, right now I am almost twice that. Tonight I looked for nuts, but we had none in the house. I had Fritos to bring my fat up. Probably the first time anyone ate Fritos to improve their diet... I will find some nuts.

The other thing that can be handy for fat is having some good fat oils around--like flax seed oil...it'll give you a nice dose of the good fats really easily. I can actually just take it by the spoonful but also good on salads...just be sure to have it cold and not heated.
Not to take away from your Frito enjoyment though--it's also important to have some pleasure!
I'm impressed by your protein intake--you've re-inspired me to start back with my protein drink just to try to make my 46 gram goal!

Do you like avocados Rob? I love that you are now concentrating on nutrition and fitness. You must feel good :)

It was a good day, I ate well, exercised and feel good tonight. I got very close to the 150 grams of protein and over the 33 of fat. Did an hour and 45 min in the gym and it felt good. Still not settled on this new diet, but getting better at it. Problem is I believe I am still losing weight so may need to adjust again, will wait another week to decide though.
:D I like that. And I hope you enjoyed them without feeling like you might binge.
I did enjoy them, felt a little guilty, but not like a binge.
I don’t think I ever had Frito’s .
Fritos are our original junk food. They claim to have been the first corn chip, dating back to 1932. Fritos - Wikipedia Always been my favorite corn chip. I knew the guy who was the chief oil chemist at Frito-Lay and his job was doing what he could to maximize the fat content of their products. It seems consumers like the fat, but don't want to know its there, so the trick is to make the things as fat filled as possible without seeming too greasy. He was trying to figure out how to get vegetable oil into Pepsi, and for a while it did contain some, but in the end they just stuck with sugar. Our fast food industry has not been our friend.

Thanks Lisa, I usually have olive oil on hand, will try that. I have also been eating some yogurts with fat, today that helped.

I do like avocados, in fact I had a couple last week. They do help. Yes, I feel good, but to be honest no better than 30 or 40 lbs back. I have some new problems, like having such a skinny bottom that sitting is no long real comfortable. And it sure is easier to get cold, thankfully summer is here so not too much opportunity right now. I am sure I'll adjust, just takes a little time.

:) that made me smile--you'll have to start carrying a cushion around!
Does your app show what to aim for in terms of omegas? i know I'm often falling short on that...

I would love to go back to hardly having a bottom. Your body will adjust with the cold. It took me a whole winter though.
