Thanks Petal, I see no reason August won't be good, but we'll see. I was feeling tired today and had decided it would be a day of rest, no gym. However I decided to try a few of my home exercises, first I was just going to do 30 minutes, but then my tired left me and I was able to do a pretty full workout. Funny how sometimes exercise can bring my energy levels up.Let’s hope August will be as good as month as July was for you. Sounds like you need a bit of a rest
No, LaMa,I know that's not possible, I would have had to start about 40 years ago to make that happen, LOL. As I said I really don't want that look, just normal is fine with me.Don't worry about looking like Arnie: that's not going to happen even with state of the art training, food, and steroids.
But it does have vitamins--also important...Fruit has calories but not fat or protein.
I love fruit & would not want to eat less than I do. It satisfies any sweet cravings. I think it’s best you find a happy balance, Rob, that suits you & is sustainable.
Thanks LaMa, I did eat less protein and put the calories into fresh tomatoes, eaten right off the vine like apples. That kind of counts as fruit. And I did make today a rest day, worked around the house and got some exercise, but no workouts or gym visits.Looks like you were a full scoop over your protein goal today - calories left over for fruit! Please make sure you catch up on that rest day even if the energy does come back once you start exercising. You're doing great and I want that to continue!
I think the tomatoes I had today probably had vitamins. Good point thought Liza. But it does have vitamins--also important...
Thanks Petal, funny how exercise can do that for you. It's back to the gym in the morning.I find my walk revitalises me Rob so I’m not surprised you felt better
Thanks Cate, I am trying but it seems to be a process. Coming down off a year and 3.5 months of near starvation dieting is more challenging than I had anticipated. But with the help, support, and advice of y'all I am trying.I think it’s best you find a happy balance, Rob, that suits you & is sustainable.
Thanks Flyer, that is much more the look I had in mind!if you want to emulate an Arnie.... i'd go with the original...!
Thanks River Bird, I have been doing much the same, but this trying to get a lot of protein into my diet has kind of derailed it a bit.I eat a banana during breakfast, and an apple for a snack every day. Sometimes I'll add grapes when the red ones are in season.

I can only imagine how challenging that must be Rob... I know i'm anxious to see you eating more (or exercising less) and closing that deficit gap and getting in a nice variety of foods that cover all sorts of nutritional needs, but I do get how it must feel like something you can't just jump into all at once.I am trying but it seems to be a process. It was Julie, and fun to do with the grandkids. I like the hobo dinners, you just pick what you want, wrap it in aluminum foil and put it in the dutch over. An hour or so later its done. That dinner sounds delicious!
Yeah, that pretty much describes my days of late. I know I need to eat more meat, fish and eggs, and will be trying. I like bean and other legumes, but they have more calories per gram of protein than other things so I can't eat a lot of them. The protein powder is just whey, a natural product, so not too bad. Kind of like cheese without the fat, or much flavor.Today was a weird day for protein, wasn't it? Looks like your only natural source was that beef? I would suggest (and I'm sure it's no surprise to you) putting all calories you add on in the future toward having more legumes, meat, fish, nuts, eggs, and cheese.
That's right Petal, and I know the worry is at least partly irrational, almost a year and a half of controlled low calorie eating is hard to slowly turn around. Are you a bit worried about eating too much Rob . Like it might be breaking your diet .
Only at first, my body adjusted to it. And at first I was not very good at sorting out real hunger from cravings. I got better at that, still not perfect but better. I also learned to eat a lot of high volume low calorie foods that filled me up. Veggies, lettuce, some fruit etc, that helped. Now I don't have a lot of real hunger, I am grateful for that.Did you feel very hungry when you were on the 1,000 calories or less a day Rob? I never remembering you commenting on it too much.
Thanks Liza, and I appreciate your concern and support on this. To be honest its not clear to me where I go from here, just picking my way along day to day. It was easier when I was losing weight, the direction I needed to head was more obvious...I know i'm anxious to see you eating more (or exercising less) and closing that deficit gap and getting in a nice variety of foods that cover all sorts of nutritional needs, but I do get how it must feel like something you can't just jump into all at once.
Thanks Cate, and I do intend to add calories just not quite sure how many how fast. I already have a rather substantial end of the day "snack", some days its more like a 4th meal.I think we all understand that you are maybe a little bit afraid of adding calories, but do I agree with everyone else. Getting your protein from legumes, meat, fish, nuts, eggs, and cheese would be healthier & more sustainable long-term than from protein powder. It may be helpful to just add a little at the end of the day or just to your breakfast as a supplement to an otherwise balanced diet.
One more reason to look forward to raising those calories a bit. I think you'll find it less daunting if you can see them as an investment in more natural protein so you won't "need" junky stuff to make your calories.I like bean and other legumes, but they have more calories per gram of protein than other things so I can't eat a lot of them.
Hey Xena, good to see you here. I like the nutritional yeast, it has a real good flavor as a topping on meat or veggies. And it seems to have nutritional value without many calories. I suggest giving it a try.Hello alligatorob. Glad you've been keeping up with your workouts. How is nutritional yeast? Someone was recommending I try it.
You are probably right LaMa, tonight at supper I substituted egg whites for protein powder. They have similarly high protein for the calories. Probably tasted better too. I suspect you know something about reverse dieting, what do you think? One more reason to look forward to raising those calories a bit. Hey Emily something I should have said yesterday is that once I began to understand the difference between real hunger and cravings I started to feel the hunger. Now if I am hungry and reasonably sure its real hunger I eat something. Not a lot, I used to eat a lot of 20 or 30 calorie seaweed snacks for that reason, now more likely some kind of fruit. Though I am having less hunger now, so the need for the snacks is less. One way to sort out real hunger from cravings is the small snack will kill the hunger, for an hour or two anyway, but it just makes cravings worse. My late planned late night snack is because I know I will be hungry without it. Evenings have always been the hardest time of the day for me to stay on a diet, so I just plan to eat something then.Did you feel very hungry when you were on the 1,000 calories or less a day Rob? I never remembering you commenting on it too much.
