Cate's Diary

I love how fragrant and aromatic fresh lemons are. 8 eggs a week sounds fine to me - I do sometimes roll my eyes a bit when I see folks starting their DAY with 6 eggs.

Wow is that whole wood pile yours? Everything all so neat and tidy and clean...the wood, the house, the lemons fresh off the tree!!
And what a beautiful scenery shot! I love all that wood and light in that room. Beautiful.

Hi, LaMa. Fresh lemons are very cheerful. I had eggs & avocado on toast for breakfast, but we both woke up hungry & had half an avocado each & that was too much!
Thanks, Liza. We cut our own wood & supply our grandson & probably have a couple of years worth. That wasn't all of it either. It's good exercise & our power bill is very low. We are so lucky to live here. I absolutely love our house & where we live. It could do with a bit more attention though. I've been chipping away at little cleaning jobs but ignoring the windows. There are so many windows & that is why it is incredibly light.

I'm tempted to try cutting my own hair, Talk me out of it, please! I just cut G's with these flash clippers we bought & I'm very tempted. I am so open to suggestion just reading about stuff. It has been 7 weeks & 4 days since I had a haircut!
The sun is shining brightly & I should get on the move & go for a big walk.
It's Mothers' Day here & D, our older son just rang. I was hoping he would call in tonight, but on my birthday with his kids would be even better. Fingers crossed!

Thanks Cate, and LaMa too, for the ponderings re: eggs. And yes, lemons are just the most amazing and beautiful tree/blossom/fruit/zest/flavour. I think I'll plant one this very month! Or at any rate read up if it's a good month to be planting. :)
(In the Ghent altarpiece, Eve is quite distinctly holding a lemon - or is it a Tahitian lime? One or the other, anyway.)

That is some wood supply! I'm not surprised you feel set for the next two years!

Whyever not cut your own hair? You know what is the difference between a good haircut and a bad haircut, I expect. ;)

Hey Cate, great pictures. I am impressed with your woodpile. I wish I had enough readily available wood to supply my needs. I do scrounge what I can when we or the neighbors loose a tree, but have to buy a lot of it. How much wood do you go through in a year? To heat your house I suspect it is a lot.

You can cut my hair when you're done with yours!

I would definitely have bought clippers if I´d known I´d have to wait another couple of weeks. Even though I´ve seen examples in the street of people who very clearly applied them themselves and missed patches. Right now nobody cares, do they? I could definitely see you doing the back and sides, although making a decent connection between the short and the long isn´t easy.

I had decided that I would do it myself, but then G said he would do it if I liked & I thought "Why not?"
re: hair cut, I think you could take a small risk trimming the ends at minimum!
I went for it & it's gone.

Come on over & I'll do yours too. Very cheap rate (free) but maybe not worth the airfares & going into quarantine. Get yourself some cordless Wahl hair clippers & away you go. They are excellent & so easy to use. We go through about 11 or 12 cubic metres of wood each year as that is all the heating we have in the house. We don't use anything in our bedroom & just have small oil filled radiant heaters in the spare bedrooms for guests & ceiling heaters in the bathrooms & a couple of electric heaters in the snooker room that we turn on when we are going to use that room.
i hope if you do a haircut we can see before and after pics!
I didn't take a before, but the before was booty & curly & the after is very cropped.
I cut hair now for my husband and son . I do a very very bad job . For those of you wanting to cut your own hair here is how Im 4 mins
That video is funny. I expected him to cut his ear! I do a fairly good job of cutting G's hair now especially with these clippers, but I don't fuss as much as I used to.

I didn't care this time, LaMa, that's for sure. I just wanted it gone & couldn't face going to the hairdresser just yet. I have no idea what the back looks like. I decided not to look! With the longest attachment on the Wahl clippers my hair is very short.

Had my last weekly get together with my neighbour last night. She's moving on Friday. We sat out in the cold & my throat is now a bit sore, That always happens to me so I'm not worried that it's C19.
I got a call last night from G1 asking if I would like to go out & play 9 holes of golf today at 1, followed by a chat & a during with 5 others including her. So there will be me, K1, G1 & G2 & M2 & T, who I have been thinking about ringing, but haven't got around to yet. We can sit outside & stay away from one another & that will feel good to catch up. Baby steps.

Must be a relief to get a chop. I would love to go to a salon and fix the mess of my hair, it's thin but it still needs some advice from a hairdresser.

I love your little golf routine. Hope you enjoy catching up with everyone, take care of yourself, hope the throat feels better. Likely not COVID unless you had fever and difficulty breathing but do take care xx

@Petal001 that video was so great! lol no fussing around!
I too was getting nervous he might cut his ear!

Too bad about the sore throat--does it usually go quickly?

Sounds like you are getting a bit of a social life back now Cate . I fear the longer it goes on I am getting happier with being at home everyday .

Cheers for G manning up to cut your hair! and for you, having him do it. :) The gradual and socially-distanced golf sounds just right for the times.

(@Petal001 - that's a great pair of shears! :D )

Haha, I can’t believe you let G cut your hair! It must be love! :D

I am so envious of your social gathering. I really am getting fed up. Enjoy it for me Cate.

Hi, Petal, Amy, Liza, LaMa & Misty. It felt really good to have some social life again, albeit from a safe distance. I have been getting really used to being home & feeling quite content, but have been missing these women. It was just lovely. My golf wasn't great as I was too busy hacking :blush5:
The woman who's husband died at Easter turned up when we finished playing. She has been incredibly ill with Shingles. It was lovely to see her, but she looked awful. Poor thing.
It felt good having a haircut & just a little bit brave & yes, Em. It must be love. You have to have a lot of faith in one another, but also there was a little bit of f*$% it. I just wasn't ready to get up close & personal with anyone else just yet.
My throat gets sore from time to time if I spend time outside in the cold night air. It usually comes right within a few days. It's only slightly sore & I don't have any other symptoms. I'll dig out the echinacea tablets & take them for a week. That's what I usually do. I won't be hanging around outside at night now for months.

Our son, R just rang. He sounds so happy these days. During the conversation, we talked about a tawny frogmouth that K9 had seen at her new home & he asked me what our bird book is & asked if I would send him the link as he thought it & a good pair of binoculars would be a good housewarming gift to buy for K9. We decided that G & I could buy her the book & he'll get the binoculars. G uses our book all the time.
@aiminglow- I bought some chickpea flour yesterday to make the biscuits. I'll surprise G & make some tomorrow while he's at golf.
K9 just messaged me to say that Archie is coming in on Thursday for her to give him a medical. I'm not sure how it will all work as we are not meant to travel that far to pick him up. I'll have to try to work it out. Maybe we could meet halfway. I'm not even sure who to ask.

Hubby refuses to cut my hair with the clippers lol
Why is that?
