Cate's Diary

LaMa- doing 6:1 would possibly suit you, i.e. to get the benefits of fasting, but being in maintenance.
Petal- you eat to your TDEE on the other 5 days. Mine is 1785, if I put that I am sedentary, over 2000 if I put lightly active. I'm aiming for 1700'ish.

I love the sound of your Sunday! And that was a gorgeous note you left in LaMa's diary - that you'd like to write, but you had a hound clambering to get into your lap! :D I can't express how much warmth and comfortable goodness there was in that picture - the dog just loving where he/she was and so ready to be part of the human-animal interaction. :) :) :)

Cate - the 5:2 sounds pretty interesting. I don't know if I could pull something like that off, though. I remember one time when I skipped breakfast and lunch then took a final exam. I had a headache due to being hungry and it actually took away from my ability to focus. But maybe that was just the combination of heavy thinking plus being hungry.

Hi, Amy. He is such an adorable hound & was quite determined to get onto my lap. He sat on my legs (ouch) & kept trying to get around each side of the laptop & then he went over to G's lap & kept trying to jump over our coffee cups onto mine. G was trying to read his book & drink coffee while holding him back from jumping over. It was so funny. I gave up & took both dogs for a walk (separately). They are both very strong, but the Dalmation is super strong. It was so good that R & K were able to visit with both dogs & that the dogs behaved. It means they can do more things together. G & I are very hopeful for their relationship.
Hi, Jack. Doing 5:2 does get easier after a while, but I wouldn't tackle anything much on the 500 cal days. I made sure that I ate enough yesterday (1700 cals) & woke up not hungry at all. I don't do well with skipping breakfast and lunch so this suits me better. I had 120g low-fat yoghurt with 1 teaspoon of almond meal for breakfast & felt full. It's week 3.

I have been getting my steps in most days & went & did some raking in the bush yesterday for exercise. We are going to do lots of little burns when it's safe enough to do so. That will be some time yet. Raking is hard work when it has never been done before.
Day at home today. G & I will get some wood, but I won't push myself too much.

Today's a fast day? That seems to be going really well for you - terrific! And so is the way the dogs got along so cheerfully (if a trifle... ummm.. intrusively) on their visit - yes, so many more pleasant things become possible when dear goofy dogs are amiable and well-behaved (as far as they're able). :) And wishing all good things and pleasant for R & K, of course.
I could have sworn I brought three mandarins along with me to eat while I read and posted here - where have the other two gone? o_O

Cate, raking can definitely be some work. My dad used to till up the dirt for the garden and we used to have to rake about a million rocks out of it. I can only imagine what raking previously unraked bush must be like.

I do love the way the focus goes off food when I do 5:2.
I like the sound of that too. Really like the idea of fasting but not sure if i have the willpower for it. It woul be interesting for me to even try just one day. Anyhow I'm impressed that you do so well with it!!

Hi, Amy, Cory & Liza. Today's FD has been a lot easier for me & I have spent about an hour and a half raking. It is really hard work, but I'm loving it & really seeing the results. It's only my 3rd week & I am glad that I am getting used to it. It's 5.30 & I'm looking forward to dinner I must admit.
BF was a small bowl of yoghurt
Lunch was a bowl of salad, with 1/3 of a salmon fillet
Dinner will be some cold corned beef & veggies with a little green tomato pickle.
I won't have enough calories left for fruit but will make up for that tomorrow after I do a food shop. I will have enough for some low cal, low-fat yoghurt.

Thanks, Petal. I'm finding 1700 to be good for me on non FDs & it's below my TDEE.
I won't be about in the morning as I have a doctor's ap't at 9.

Your success with this is very inspiring Cate! It's neat to see how the body and mind adjust to these alterations. First bit on any new plan can feel a bit weird but we do adjust...something for me to keep in mind as I contemplate an attempt to further reduce my calorie consumption!

This is where the crux of the work is for me and with any change to my plans. It usually takes a week to 2 weeks to start feeling "normal" again and it helps to be as consistent with my calorie consumption and expenditure as possible. It's always an opportunity for my subconscious to take over and inform me that what I'm doing doesn't make any sense and I should go back up. It gets worse/better with a bigger/smaller deficit. Small changes work better.

Thanks, Liza. I will feel it is more successful when my weight drops a little bit most weeks. For now at least I do feel slimmer. My stomach is not as bloated & I feel lighter.
Thanks, Rob. What I like the most about doing 5:2 is that for 5 days a week I don't feel like I am "dieting". It does feel like a small change now & I remember how after a few weeks I looked forward to my next FD.
I think my body/brain has adjusted to the increase in meds & doing the fasts. I am sleeping well & don't feel anxious anymore.
Almost time to head for my checkup.

All good, including my BP
Wonderful! :)
