Cate's Diary

They get aggressive then, LaMa & will actually put their heads up & bark!
I knew there were snakes who´ll incubate their own eggs but I didn´t know any that looked after their babies after hatching and I love it! Glad the stress went down a bit.

I'm very sorry you had that document-stress hitting you, as well as the general stress of the fires - whether for possible personal impact, or for friends and family, or general stress for the terrible damage to the environment. Glad your friend got her ponies out.

And glad you were able to identify and deal positively with the stress - a glass of wine, a calming exercise... it all helps and is so much better than stewing.

LaMa. You know I was always told that snakes are particularly aggressive in the mating season but had never looked up whether they actually do protect their young when they are born. I had probably just assumed they did. It seems that female tiger snakes provide no care to their newborn. Feb is usually the time to take particular care, as that's when they are very active. This year seems to be very different. I just read that's it a good idea to place small containers of water on the perimeter of your property & that might stop them coming closer. It's worth a try. The wallabies would like it too. It would require lugging water to each of them, but I think I will do it. I have water buckets near the house for sheep & slightly lower ones for wallabies.

Amy- Thank you. The document stress was finance-related, but also a result of my obviously over-eager decluttering of paperwork. I really couldn't think of a way to get out of it, but in the end, found a way. I struck someone from the tax office who was incredibly helpful. I was so happy I could have cried. I told him he made my day.

The smoke has stopped me getting outside & I am really missing that. It's very smoky again today. I hope it lifts.
Yesterday-
BF- Sml fruit salad, dollop yoghurt, 1 egg 207
L- Salmon, avo & egg w some low-fat mayo on 4 Ryvitas 483

Tiny amount of fruit(to stay under 1450) & 1 hot lemon drink 46

Steps only 3505 :( Go away smoke! I know we are very lucky, so far, to be well away from any fires. The walks outside just make me feel so much more positive.

Really too bad about the smoke Cate. Yes i will hope with you that it goes away!
Very glad for you finding your helpful somebody from the tax office. so good when someone's able to help us out in just the right way!

I'm sure he was glad to be getting some thanks for his work for once :grouphug:

Hi, Amy, Liza, LaMa & Petal. The smoke has not cleared at all. I'm not sure if it's from the Victorian fires or the Fingal ones here. Apparently we're sharing it backwards & forwards depending on the wind. Poor Australia.
It's the first week of women's golf today. I'll see how I go. If it's too smoky out there I'll come home again. No walks yesterday but managed to do a little outside when it cleared a little in the afternoon. I do not want to be whinging about smoke as we are very, very lucky. I think most Australians would be feeling emotional overload. It is very overwhelming seeing the horrible scenes of devastation. I'm going to stop watching videos online.
Yesterday-
BF- Yoghurt & fresh fruit salad, almond meal 312
L- Roast chicken, gravy & lots of steamed veggies. 315
1/2 apple, 1 plum 70
1 glass red wine 148
D- Seed crackers, nice cheese, celery, snow peas, tomato, carrot & 1/2 pickled onion 278
Soy icecream & a little fruit salad, 2 hot lemon drinks 185
Total 1308
Steps only 3594. Hopefully will make up for that well & truly today with 18 holes of golf :)

Hope the golfing's not smoky for you! It gets depressing if you have to stay in too much (for me anyhow!)

Hi, Em. I got 12 holes in & ran out of puff. I enjoyed it though.
Hi, Liza. I did have cabin fever.
Hi, Amy. I did abandon, but still glad I played.
Hi, LaMa. Whoops. I meant soy ice cream. It's nowhere near as nice in my opinion & I'm not going to buy it again. It is much lower in cals than even the mango and sorbet. I need to find a nice low cal ice cream.

I can't stand soy milk. Or yogurt, or even soy chocolate icecream. Nothing covers the taste of soy milk for me.

You're right, Petal & LaMa. I'm done with soy "ice cream". We finished it off last night, thank goodness!
Thanks, Em. 12 holes were much better than none. I hung around for about 15 mins after abandoning, ate my lunch & then decided not to stick around. I was hot & thirsty, had already drunk 1.5 litres of water & wanted a cold drink. Because I don't have a key to the bar I couldn't get a cold drink or turn on the fans, so I left. I actually went to the supermarket (wearing a mask ) & bought some diet soft drink, mangoes, avocadoes & a few other things. I won't be without a cold drink next week. When I got home poor G assumed I had a terrible day, but on the contrary, I really enjoyed it. I had lovely company.
G has gone off to play golf in a tournament today & I have the day at home. It's actually quite cool & it feels good. It has also cleared so I'll get a walk in & some gardening I think.

Yesterday- I'm just going to put the total calories at the end of the day as it's much less time-consuming.
BF- cheese & mushroom omelette on 1 piece of oat toast
Lunch- 1 cup venison "chop suey"
Bubbly with G
Venison rissoles, gravy & lots of veggies
Soy ice cream (ugh) with fruit salad
2 hot lemon drinks
Cals 1442
Steps 8315 (5.02km) My fitbit is not so accurate when I play golf as I don't swing my arms when I'm pushing my buggy. I did like the message "if every day was like today, in 5 weeks you would weigh ......." as it was over 6kg less than I weigh now. It felt like a good day!

I'm researching low cal ice creams & may try halo top next. I keep getting side-tracked!

That's a great message to get! Very encouraging for sure. Glad you were able to get out for a bit of golf even if you did have to come back earlier than planned.
Hope the smoke stays cleared for you!

Thanks, Liza. I'm not allowing myself to eat back any of my exercise cals as I'm determined to get those scales moving downwards!

Yay for cooler days with clear air! I'm kind of jealous reading about your fitbit because my skin rejects mine but then: it wouldn't get better for me if everyone had the same problem, so I'm glad you're enjoying it :)
