Flyer's diary

thinking about my menu the other day... i did a rough estimate and at first i came up with about 1800 calories. then i tried to round up a little more thinking i might be underestimating, but i still could not get over 2000 calories for the day. and i have to restate, that was a huge amount of food. for example i had close to the same menu today, but i didn't have any fruit or the chicken drumsticks, but i did spike the chicken tortilla soup with a few extra pieces of chicken and i only had one egg with the same 3 pieces of bacon. probably 25 - 30% less food than i ate yesterday.

started my fasting time about 2 hours ago and feel a lot better than yesterday. funny how on active days i seem to be a lot less hungry or perhaps i just do not think about it as much.

this is getting boring...

i think i may have found a reason some people say not to weigh yourself every day. oh well, i have an active weekend coming up... perhaps next week will see a movement.

this has been an interesting morning. i'm typically not hungry, but i typically don't have a big pot of soup brewing from the night before...

beef bone broth has been simmering for about 18 hour now. wish i could send the aroma somehow... mmmmmm. funny part is that i should be hungry, but i'm really not. i could easily impulse eat since the last meal i had was also about 18 hours ago, and i'm thinking about what i'll be eating later... some chicken is marinating in teriyaki sauce right now, but for the time being i'm ok with just watching the pot.

in about an hour or two the bones will come out, i'll split the broth between my two pots and add potatoes, carrots, lightly sauted onions and green beans. ...a bowl later on for dessert should be just the ticket!

Curious as to long you ended up fasting for? I'm seeing how long I can push for today.
oh probably just an hour or two later. if i wasn't in the middle of a small project, it might have been earlier. that chore was taking me past the soup every 15 minutes or so which is why i thought it was a bit amusing, ambivalent feelings of hunger that were going on in my head.

long fasting days usually come about by my screwing up and realizing that i blew past a normal 6-8 hour eating window. in most cases i'd rather skip extending it to 10-12 hours since it then messes up the following day. as long as i can make it through the evening, mornings are easy for me. after a 20 hours fasting day, i might cut back to 14 hours the following day, but if not at least i know i've avoided a 12/12 day.

to finish the sugary slogan, i think i'd add... "...and useful to store fat for those lean times when candy bars are not in season." ...:)

The 2nd Continental Congress ran from May 10, 1775, to March 2, 1789. The Journals of the Continental Congress are the records of the daily proceedings of the Congress as kept by the office of its secretary, Charles Thomson.

From, Vol 8 (22 May - 2 Oct 1777), p 464; (cont.) proceedings of June 14, 1777.

"Resolved, That the flag of the thirteen United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation."

Happy Flag Day!

this is interesting... for the week i was having that soup practically every day, i was seeing 170 - 172 practically every day, yet now that i'm not downing that much liquid, i'm back in the 160's. this is probably the same phenomenon as when i tried drinking 1gal of water/ day for a few days. i guess my body will just try to hang on to a couple extra pints of water when given the chance. then again, i should probably start measuring out things that i toss into my soup making. salt, pepper, some other spices i typically measure out in my palm.

looks like this new pot of soup is being a lot more friendly...

i did cut down on the potatoes, come to think of it.... :).

still sorting out my wardrobe, i came across the last suit i had to wear for a wedding about 30 years ago. i weigh just about the same as i did then but it was still a bit tight. i keep forgetting i'm about 1½" shorter than i used to be...!! on the upside, i have discovered a slew of T-shirts i stashed away in the previous century. i'm sure i'm going to be in for a lot of... "gee, i thought that place closed years ago" comments... :)

i am still a big advocate of weighing yourself often... for me it always seems like a win-win situation. if i see a disappointing weight, i get motivated to pay more attention to my diet and get off my butt more often, but if i see a nominal weight or a slight drop, i know that staying motivated is paying off. i can't think of any scale reading that would trigger, ... "screw it, i'm giving up".

I'm usually the same - ie I like to weigh myself often, and it works as a motivator whichever way it goes. But that means I feel adrift if I'm travelling (visiting family, on holidays, whatever) and there's no scales, or if - as happened to me a while back - there are wrong, out-of-whack scales.
Do you have any tips for how to handle that situation - ie how to keep on track without the daily weigh-in?

Actually - I might go and ask this question in the Weigh Yourself Every Day Club! :)

if you don't mind a comment only looking at the last page, your diet seems way too heavy with fruit/ sugar. even though it comes with fiber, there is no getting over the insulin rush it will initially give followed by a crash that will trigger your hunger. an avocado or an egg white omelet would be a much better breakfast than only fruit. get more good fat calories into your diet while maybe avoiding the higher cholesterol sources if that's a concern.
I always appreciate your comments. The day you looked at I did have more fruit than most of my days, but I am eating a lot of fruit.

I have read your comments in my diary and elsewhere about Insulin and fasting, however to be honest I don't know much about it. In the past I have done low carb diets and they have helped me lose weight. The problem I have had with them is that I was never successful at sustaining low carbs in the long run. I like bread, pasta, and fruit too much to give them up. On the other hand I do like eating lots of meat and cheese, for a while anyway.

when i am away from my normal routine, i move a lot more than i do at home, so i don't really worry about it. when i do get home from a weekend away it is sometimes a surprise, but the real bottom line is that even 4-5 days is not going to make a big difference. i am so used to eating less even when given the chance to overindulge.

...
earlier today i bought a dozen bagels from the bagel store just across the street from me. they are too good to give up... some days i'll have one... some days i'll have more than one... some days i'll skip any bread altogether. i just had three plums to finish off today's eating window. last week i downed a whole pineapple and a basket of strawberries in two days...that was a huge amount of sugar for me. many days i keep my sugar intake low... less than 10g... but it's a rule i can break every so often without too much consequence. i think a Keto diet takes too much work, that's why i intermittent fast, ... gets you to the same place of having that low insulin level for at least a few hours every day along with some other healthy aspects of giving your digestive system that daily break.

i have to get an X-ray taken tomorrow morning and read the instructions today.
i have to stop eating 6 hours before my appointment....OMG... i hope i can make it! ... :)
