Well that was a good ride. I was positive I had a chance at breaking the 27km/h average but nope. Still stuck on 26.

It’s quite warm here for an autumn day. It got to 34 but it’s very muggy for Adelaide so I’m sweating like a pig!

I decided to go out for a late morning ride.

It’s funny how you can stand out in the open and not feel the wind but as soon as you get on a bike it’s like it’s blowing a gale. Had a head wind for half the trip and because I just turned around and went back the way I came had a nice tail wind home.

Average speed was down because of all the extra traffic and stops etc but overall it was a nice ride.

Time to have a shower and head to my fathers place for Easter lunch.

Day off yesterday (sorta). I went to Goolwa and Victor Harbor with my partner and did lots of walking including a walk up the bluff for a look out. Beautiful views.

Back into it tonight with a quick ride. Again I was hopeful of breaking the 27km/h average speed barrier ... ... ... SMASHED IT! 28km/h over the same route I usually run. I did however get a great run with the traffic lights; only having to stop at 1 set for a couple of minutes so I’m sure that helped AND I checked the speedo against my car which I know to be accurate. The bike speedo actually reads 4km/h slower (average is correct though because that calculates distance against time).

Woooooo!!!!

Well I’ve had a few days off the exercise this week and I’ve had a couple of cheat days.

I’ve not fallen off the wagon at all though. I’ve just been very busy at work. I’m now on 3 weeks annual leave; just vegging at home and visiting my father as much as I can so I’ve got heaps of time for exercise. I’ve just now gone to the shops and bought a new tail light for the bike; an even brighter one, only problem is it doesn’t flash. I like the strobe effect of the tail light; it really gets attention. My new super bright headlight arrived today and I’ll take it on a test spin tonight. My old (still going to use it in metro areas) light is 500 lumen. My new one is 35000. Nope not a typo. Thirty five thousand lumen. It needs its own battery pack to run it but that sits in a pouch on the down bar.

Hopefully I’ll be able to post photos of the comparisons tonight ...

Well that sucks.

Set off on an errand run, went to the chemist to fill my dogs prescription then went to zambreros for dinner and set off in a long ride. I was hoping to cover at least 70km but noooo another puncture and I’m walking home. I really need to start carrying a spare tube!

I’ve tried attaching photos of the lights but the files are too big. I’ll try resize them when I get home.

Another puncture? Surely you're joking! Wowsers!
Nope. Unfortunately not a joke. It’s kinda my fault. I missed the turn off for the bike way so I did a wide u-turn over a field got a three corner jack in my front. Just got home, switched the wheel over for the spare and went for a quick around the block ride.

Three corner jack=bindi eye? Nasty little things. I was brought up in a little town on the Murray River & we ran around bare feet most of the time. We were always getting bindis in our feet. Ouch!

Yup that’ll be the one. That sounds very painful!

I have a work function in Enfield in late May so I was thinking about riding there. According to google maps it’s 23km but google isn’t very good at picking safe, bike friendly routes so I took a test ride down a relatively bike safe route. It’s 35kms. Still easily done. I’m now sitting at the park bench opposite the site the function will be. There was only one hill that challenged me but I suspect that’s because it is FREEZING and I’m still very stiff. I’ll head home in a few minutes. Just going to try find a tap to refill my water bottle.

Well on the way home I realised how close I would be to the 50 mile mark so after a 10 minute quick charge of my phone I headed out for another 9km then realised I was less than 30km short of 100km so guess what I did ...

...

Just got back from my first metric century. 101.65km. It took nearly 5 hours but I wasn’t wearing my padded bike shorts so my bum was very sore from about the 30km mark. Now it’s VERY sore. Don’t think I’ll ride tomorrow.

First screen shot was when I stopped at Enfield. Second is when I got home (I restarted the speedo so the two added together is my trip)

I’ve been a bit quiet on here recently. A lot is happening at home and work so I’m a bit time poor. It’s also been wet and miserable so my riding opportunities have reduced.

I did however get out tonight for a quick ride. I also bought a new bike yesterday so I’ve finally got it set up how I wanted it. It’s gearing is identical to my old bike but it’s a smaller frame (my old one always felt one size too big). It’s also lighter. It’s still an alloy frame but with a carbon fork it’s much smoother and quieter to ride.

All in all a decent ride tonight but I had to take it a bit slower with increased traffic and wet roads.

sometimes I love my city.

These shots were taken on yesterday’s ride on linear park bike way from west beach to Adelaide CBD. The horse one was at the start in west beach but all others were within the CBD boundaries.

I never would have seen this if it weren’t for cycling so I suggest if you’re at all interested GET ON YOUR BIKE!

Ps I hope the quality is ok. I had to down size them a fair bit to get them small enough to upload.

EDIT: I have no idea why there are so many duplicate images.

Oh and my bike was stolen last night. Not sure if I’ve already said here or not but I upgraded bikes on Tuesday, had my old bike in the driveway drying off after being washed ready to sell and popped off to the shops, came back 2 hours later and it was gone. FURIOUS!

Oh AAAAND the trail yesterday was wet and slippery, I swerved to avoid a gaggle of ducks on the trail, bike slipped out from underneath me, we both slid along the road a few metres. I got up, quick look around to see if anyone saw me (nope ) and off I went. This morning I saw the extent of the damage. Skinned left knee and elbow (I didn’t feel the elbow because of a previous injury I have no sensation in the skin on that elbow) and a bruised rib or two. Going to stay off the bike for a couple of days.
