You are very fortunate to have such a great job. It's a bugger about your bike though. You are really testing it out. Maybe it just isn't up to it the intensity. I admire your determination :)

Yes. It hasn’t always been great but you work through the hard times and you will come out the other side. A change in management really shakes things up too.

Yes it’s getting tested. I think the issue is all the pot holes and manhole covers I need to navigate. I’m hitting quite large holes at high speeds nearly every ride so that’s certainly not helping. I’ve got thorn resistant tyres on it but the tubes just can’t handle pinch flats. It’s always the front where the biggest force hits sharply so I need to work on my hole dodging.

Replaced the tube with a new one tonight. While I was repairing the old ones pssssst the new one popped. I THINK I’ve found the reason. There’s a tiny tear in the rim tape which was allowing the spoke to poke through ever so slightly.

Just waiting for the repair to dry a little more then I’ll be heading out for a quick ride.

Ok bought a new tube and rim tape after work this afternoon. I’m having a quick rest then I’ll be heading to mount lofty for a hike then repair my wheel (hopefully) and I’ll be back on the road.

2 really cool things happened today ...

1/ I found a brand new (sealed) camelbak back pack with water bladder and drinking tube in the opshop (I volunteer at the shop on Saturday’s)

2/ I went to the shop to buy a new pair of work pants ... I bought a size 87 (34 inch). I’m now wearing the smallest pants I’ve worn in 17 years.

Just finished mt lofty.

Waterfall gully to mt lofty summit 46 mins (beat my PB by 5 whole minutes)

Mt lofty summit to waterfall gully 33 minutes (missed my PB by 4 whole minutes).

It’s going to be a very long time before I beat my downhill PB again but I’ve been trying and trying to beat the 50 minute mark uphill and to smash that feel GOOOOOD!

Oh and I found a bike in hard rubbish on my way home. It’s a 2007 specalized sirrus. I’m cannibalising it to upgrade my road bike. Just changed the front wheel over so I can go for a ride now! HAPPY DAYS!!!!

Just a short ride tonight. Didn’t want to push it too hard after the hike.

I’ll be heading out first thing in the morning for a ride then playing a round of golf before visiting my dad and another ride tomorrow night ... busy weekend!

The smallest pair of pants you've worn in 17 years....
^^^ that is a great feeling!!

It sounds like a busy & fun weekend :)

Yep. I honestly don’t think I’m ever going to wear a smaller pair though. I’ve got very big quads and calf muscles so the legs need to be big enough to accommodate

Very busy but yes very fun. We’re playing golf as a foursome today. One of the blokes that’s playing I haven’t seen for about 6 months so it’ll be good to catch up with him and he’s going to be shocked with the weight loss!

Just got back from my morning ride. Jeeze it was hard to summon the courage to get up this morning. It was cold and I only got about 4 hours sleep but I’m up, I rode and I’m back.

There’s something amiss with my speedo though I’ve noticed. The timer is correct but either the speed or distance isn’t. I’ve wondered a few times how my average speed could be so low (the first 3km I average 12km/h but the only time I’m anywhere near that low is navigating a roundabout. I love also noticed if I’m averaging 24 but I dip below 24 for any stretch my average drops quite quickly but if I exceed it even by 10km/h for any stretch it doesn’t move. It’s not the end of the world but it IS annoying.

anyway the bike ride well. I’m thinking I’ll upgrade the gearing and crank with the ones on my hard rubbish find. I still can’t believe that find! (I was driving through a VERY rich neighbourhood when I found it though).

Just calculated my average speed manually. It does calculate it correctly but I don’t know if the distance is correct. I’ll drive it one day and measure with my car ...
