Marsia's Diary

Thanks!!! We didn't get to Stanford or anything where we had to drive any great distance. Traffic was terrible (downside of living near the beach in a tourist mecca) so we went for a hike in the state park near our house and out to an open mike night so K could practice a couple of her songs for the play in front of an audience. There were some really sweet college kids performing, and a really good nature poet who I liked a lot. So nice mellow vacation day!

This week I keep at the pile of stuff from the basement and then rescue the rest of it from the back of the basement, which hopefully is ok in there for now. Can't wait until the house is decluttered - I want to be planning my garden soon!

It sounds like a great way to spend the day!
I have been decluttering with a passion lately (thanks to Marie Kondo lol)
What's the plan for the garden?

Hi M2M! I got inspired by Marie Kondo, too! For my garden, I have a huge pile of recycled broken concrete to make raised beds out of, but may just end up using the existing falling apart raised beds this year, as I am taking care of my aging mom and a teen (and a husband). We also found an inexpensive greenhouse, so I need to measure and figure out the best place for it, then we'll save up and get it if possible. We have every kind of pest that loves to eat my garden, so ultimately a greenhouse and a greens garden are the long term goal and a protected fence around a berry section. I want to study permaculture and make the garden as easy to take care of as possible with lots of mulch and kiwis growing up trees and things like that. Do you garden?

Too bad we can't teleport and come visit each other - I would happily share my garden with you! Do you have community gardens where you live? I loved when I did a community garden!

I think there´s one on the other side of the city. There´s allotments but the waiting lists are typically well over a decade long. Teleporting would be great!

I looked through my old artist notebooks and they are so happy and so filled with sketches that make me want to do art again! I am hereby declaring that I need to sketch twice a week at a minimum. Please remind me if I forget!!!

It sounds like you have some great plans!!
I've only recently moved in to a new house and it's been raining too much to do any gardening yet, but I'm looking forward to it. There's a grapefruit and kumquat tree and a dozen or more roses, but I really want to get an herb garden growing!

M2M, that sounds lovely! I wish we could grow citrus here. Nice you have some established trees and some roses, too. Happy gardening when the rains calm down!

Thanks LaMa and Cate for the encouragement!! I'll do a sketch tomorrow, but maybe not post for a while. I think I want to get back into it a while before sharing because it takes the pressure off of it needing to look good. I want to be more experimental and play instead of draw just realistically like I usually do when I go out sketching with my mom and kid.

Made a nice keto cheesecake today and it came out well! Gained a little weight back, but I am not worried. I plan to garden a lot in the coming weeks when it isn't so darn cold out, and will do more resistance stuff in the mean time. Even though I gained a little, my pants are so loose they look like a tent on me. Time to brave the basement and find the next size down in the plastic bins in there!

Hi Marsia good to hear you are sketching and also in loose pants . A good feeling when it happens .
I'm surprised citrus won't grow where you are , why is that ?

I read that as "sketching in loose pants" and for a moment wondered what it might mean. Sounds fun, whatever it is :D

Thanks everyone! Well, this week I gained about a pound a day eating the normal amount of food and exercising about 1,400 steps a day. So I gained 5 pounds this week, hopefully mostly water weight! It's so weird that as I gain weight, I get skinnier. I now have a flat stomach when I lay down - my hip bones stick out as far as my stomach.

I picked a bad time to proclaim that I will start doing art again. My clothes are dumped out on the living room rug to try on and give away what doesn't fit, the kitchen is full of knick nacks I am sorting, the counters have stuff that doesn't fit in the cupboards on them, and I need to plant a few blueberry plants in pots ASAP because they come in saw dust and are going into leaf, but it's too cold outside to plant them yet - February is our coldest month and there is heavy frost some mornings (which is why citrus doesn't do well here unless you put blankets on the trees all winter). My mom is also having trouble sorting out her bills and I am feeding her 3 meals a day because with vertigo, she understandably doesn't want to get anywhere near the stove or sharp knives. But we determined that she isn't in danger of having a heart attack or stroke, and I'll take her to the hospital for classes in how to not trigger vertigo. So I will keep trying to get sketching in, but it may not be twice a week for a while. Promise to keep trying though! I will aim for doing at least one sketch this weekend and then 2 next week - 3 to make up for this week if I do little sketches. LaMa, I haven't gotten the pants from the basement yet, so I will be sketching in loose pants for a few more times.

I feel like I am going through a transition. I am getting the house easier to manage and getting ready to be creative again, but it's a rather messy process because there is no extra space for things, so everything from the basement needs to displace something already unpacked. So everything in the house needs sorting and organizing because I never completely organized things to begin with except the kitchen. It feels good to do this though!

Sounds like you´re being very constructive, chaos or not!
