Cate's Diary

I'm sorry I missed all that's been going on but the last 36 hours seemed to have flown past . Well done on getting the weight back down from the temporary up . Your purchases sound lovely .
Sorry you were a bit out of sorts but let's hope now you bounce back fully . Do you mind G going away . I have to say I enjoy when my husband does as cooking gets easier and I'm a bit more laid back

Hi, Petal & Marsia.
I'm feeling fine again today. I slept in my chair last night & have been awake since about 4.45, so got up & did some more paperwork. A few things have been in the back of my mind & I needed to get them done. I feel better now.
I don't mind G going away Petal. He went last year & had such a great time. I wasn't going to contact him while he was away, but he rang me every day at about 4 pm & he sounded so happy that I told him he has to go every year. I had to talk him into it last year as he felt funny about going away without me as he hadn't before. I think it's good for us. I really miss him when he's gone, but this time I will use it as a good opportunity to lose some weight. He's the cook in our household. I'll have an extra FD next week :)
I also won't have to watch tv if I don't want to & will most likely read more.
I can hear him up & about now I think so will have some breakfast when he appears. I was thinking of having a FD today, but I'm hungry, so won't. I'll be back xoxo
I forgot to say that I woke up with an awful stomach ache. We had rice twice yesterday.

My stomach feels ok now, but I must remember that rice does that to me. A little rice is ok.
I had to look up Strohwitwe., but guessed it was a straw widow. I will, LaMa :D
I have typed up the Vets AGM & general meeting minutes & printed them up & have myself all set up to be much better prepared this financial year. Preparation is key for me to be less stressed.
I have been getting emails re the women's minutes & will print them up soon too, when the spelling mistakes are corrected.
If I have to do these jobs I want to do them correctly. :(
Nice day today! I have done lots of housework & it feels like I have achieved quite a bit. G & I are going to visit the GK's shortly as we haven't seen them for a couple of weeks.

Hi Cate! Is your back doing ok? Is that why you slept in your chair? I've never heard of a straw widow before. I like when I get the house to myself and can make all the noise I want and I stay up late without waking anyone and have a wonderful time. Having both people work from home with no set hours means our house is an office at all hours, and we don't really get to be loud and all that. So I enjoy it when I can get it!

I know what you mean about if you have to do a job, might as well get the satisfaction of doing it right. Hope it doesn't take up a lot of your time though!

Do you have foods and drinks that help calm your stomach? Hope it is better soon!

Thanks, Petal. I don't eat "normal" bread as I used to get an awful stomach ache & bloating from it. The visit was lovely. I got lots of hugs from our younger GS. Sweet :beating:
Thanks, Em. That's sweet.
Hi, LaMa. GK time was lovely.
Hi, Marsia. My back is getting better all the time. I fell asleep in my chair the other night watching TV. I was SO tired! I won't let the golf club take up too much of my time. I got the paperwork up to date & now I feel fine about it. My stomach has settled down now. Rice is ok for me if I just have some, but I'll have to keep reminding G to not plate me up so much. I think he thinks now that he adds Quinoa(1/4?) that I can eat more.

We're having another home day today, which will be nice. Nothing much planned. I need to do some ironing for him before he goes away & I might do some gardening I think. It's a lovely sunny day :)

Cate I think the rule of thumb is a fistful size of cooked rice . We like quinoa with our rice too . Took me ages to learn how to pronounce quinoa . I used to say quin-o-a . Now I say queen-wa . Why on earth can it not be pronounced as its spelt .

Good you seem focused on the housework . Me too once I get out of bed here !

Why on earth can it not be pronounced as its spelt
The real question is why English speakers chose to use this spelling... The answer, of course, is that they´ve borrowed so many words from different languages over the ages none of the theoretical pronunciation rules work consistently anyway so we´re just expected to memorize how to pronounce words.

Yum, quinoa! That was one of my main staples. Can't wait to get to my goal weight so I can have some again!

You all sound like my daughter who hates spelling and complains about the English language constantly. I will try to get her to take Japanese or a phonetic language when she is in high school so she likes spelling finally! I taught English in South Korea, and loved their alphabet - totally phonetic and wonderful except for trying to hear the double vowels, which I never got the hang of.

Hi, Em & Marsia. Maybe I should stop eating rice & quinoa altogether for a while. I had a very small serve yesterday & have a belly ache again this morning :(
I must confess I love the English language & was one of those nerds who loved Latin at high school. Yes, we had an English teacher who taught us Latin.
One of the women has retired from golf & is giving her clubs away & trying to sell her motorised buggy. I thought I would try her clubs as they are graphite & I use G's old steel ones, which are quite heavy. G & I are going to go out today & have a hit so I can test them. You can never sell golf clubs so if I like them I'll offer her some money & shout her out to lunch next Friday as the golfing women are having lunch at a new nice looking restaurant.
Can't think of anything to say today really, except ouch.

Darn, so sorry grains are not agreeing with you lately. The silver lining is maybe that means you will natually do a little bit lower carb diet for a while by default and see if you like it and if it helps you with weight loss.

You are so lucky you got to take Latin! Our Latin teacher quit the year before I got to the right grade, and I found studying origins of word parts in the dictionary fascinating, and was really looking forward to Latin.

Hope you like the golf clubs and that your tummy feels better soon!

Is it possible that the rice G currently uses is contaminated with gluten? Bulk bin in the supermarket perhaps? A different brand than you normally take?
Languages are fun. I enjoyed Latin but old Greek was rather beyond me. Tried for two years :D

Marsia- My stomach is really playing up & maybe I have a bug. I'm looking forward to a fast on Tuesday. I'm not sure about the clubs. They seem a bit short for me. I'll play with them on Wednesday & see how I go.
You made me laugh saying that I was lucky to learn Latin. I think I was the only one in the class to think so.
LaMa- The rice shouldn't be contaminated with gluten. I'll be having a week without any grains at all & hopefully, my stomach will be better.
I started to think I might have IBS today. My stomach is very dodgy!
