Weightlifting,masterbation and sex

hmmm...:/ .. lol.:D .

When you look at all those studies up there, it seems that there's a few connecting scientific factors throughout the whole thing..

like with masturbation over sex because of std's and pregnancy potential and relationship b.s. , and how stress effects us physically and the host of repercussions thaat has on our bodies ( in case I really doo need tospell this out)
and so on and even in terms of testosterone levels and sex as far as domination and alpha-ism and what thaat means to a person and how your nerves might relaate to all that .. and even with testosterone nerves and fitness or strength benefits ..

Just hyperthetically, say that as men here you decided to have loaads of sex because you believed it would increase your testosterone and help your fitness or health or whatever , yet allso aware of all the b.s. and potential detriments and notes from othher studies ( as described above) about how masturbation is bettter for your health and fitness than sex , if you thought there was a way masturbation could allso increase your testosterone and morre so than sex.. how many of you would stop having sex? .. until maybe the sexual detriments were sorted out to where they tipped back the scales again???
Would any of you do that?

and who would stop having sex to masturbate instead and actually proactively follow thrrough to sort out the detrimental side of bringing sex back??

..
Anyone want to own thaat out loud??

Abstinence does boost testosterone by a fair amount(50% ish percent), however the ejaculation itself doesnt have any immediate effect on levels.
So is living a monk-life worth this moderate effect? your call :D

Wow Derwyydon! They're some interesting figures.

Marcus Leon what about masterbation ontopp of abstinance??.. Do you have figures and a source for that?.. or a comparative study for T ^ during sexx vs abstinence masturbating and not would be quite cool??

Oh the chores of being a scientist.

I think [focus] is talking about purely 'mental' masturbation :) which is 100% confined in the brain.

Edit: didn't see the second page.

From what I have stored in my docs:

"The purpose of this study is to gain understanding of the relationship between ejaculation and serum testosterone level in men. The serum testosterone concentrations of 28 volunteers were investigated daily during abstinence periods after ejaculation for two phases. The authors found that the fluctuations of testosterone levels from the 2nd to 5th day of abstinence were minimal. On the 7th day of abstinence, however, a clear peak of serum testosterone appeared, reaching 145.7% of the baseline ( P < 0.01). No regular fluctuation was observed following continuous abstinence after the peak. Ejaculation is the precondition and beginning of the special periodic serum testosterone level variations, which would not occur without ejaculation. The results showed that ejaculation-caused variations were characterized by a peak on the 7th day of abstinence; and that the effective time of an ejaculation is 7 days minimum. These data are the first to document the phenomenon of the periodic change in serum testosterone level; the correlation between ejaculation and periodic change in the serum testosterone level, and the pattern and characteristics of the periodic change.

Neuroendocrine and cardiovascular response to sexual arousal and orgasm in men.
"In this study, ten healthy male volunteers were continuously monitored for their cardiovascular and neuroendocrine response to sexual arousal and orgasm. Blood was continuously drawn before, during and after masturbation-induced orgasm and analyzed for plasma concentrations of adrenaline, noradrenaline, cortisol, luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), prolactin, growth hormone (GH), beta-endorphin and testosterone. Orgasm induced transient increases in heart rate, blood pressure and noradrenaline plasma levels. Prolactin plasma levels increased during orgasm and remained elevated 30 min after orgasm.
In contrast, none of the other endocrine variables, including tesosterone, were significantly affected by sexual arousal and orgasm."

Kruger T, Exton MS, Pawlak C, von zur Muhlen A, Hartmann U, Schedlowski M. Division of Clinical Psychiatry, Hannover Medical School, Federal Republic of Germany.

"higher testosterone concentrations were observed following the period of abstinence. These data demonstrate that acute abstinence does not change the neuroendocrine response to orgasm but does produce elevated levels of testosterone in males."

Endocrine response to masturbation-induced orgasm in healthy men following a 3-week sexual abstinence., World J Urol. 2001 Nov;19(5):377-82.

Now for the women its a little bit different:

"Orgasm induced elevations in cardiovascular parameters and levels of plasma adrenaline and noradrenaline. Plasma prolactin substantially increased after orgasm, remained elevated over the remainder of the session, and was still raised 60 minutes after sexual arousal. In addition, sexual arousal also produced small increases in plasma LH and testosterone concentrations. In contrast, plasma concentrations of cortisol, FSH, beta-endorphin, progesterone, and estradiol were unaffected by orgasm."

Psychosom Med. 1999 May-Jun;61(3):280-9, Cardiovascular and endocrine alterations after masturbation-induced orgasm in women.

Women have it so much easier lol

Testosterone = free test; bound test; total test? That study tells us jack, considering it doesn't matter how much your testosterone increases if your sbhg increased by the same amount.

Okay!.

So what I personally found mOst intersting ( for it's officiality) were the results regarding cortisol ( a nasty hormone responsible for many a degenerative state and bad mood , high blood pressure, infertility in women, certain brainwave patterns and so on,) .

and progesterone. .. being that progesterone is responsible for dopamine production ( calming or happy chemicals), lactivity ( made up word meaning associated with how and how much the mammary ( booby) glands produce milk.

From what ii can see, to get really boring for a moment, it seems that women are the greatest benificiaries of masturbation.
It increases testosterone in their blood supply and increases their 'focus' abilty.
when menn do though, from what I can gather there, they go into cortisol overdrive and for up to half an hr after they masturbate ( for whatever reason making them feel inferior or slightly limp ed) as they ejaculate , start producing increased amounts of femamones .

It's a tricky thing up there but I think like someone was saying earlier, .. it reeally has to depend on your partner and sub(or not so) conscious assessment of where association with them truly puts you.

As far as in menn goes with masturbation producing degenerative sad angry brain chemicals, i think that has to do with a very serious fear of finding that partner down the track making them fight off not feeling femmy or like they're no longer alpha runners because of it.

No bleeding wonder some of us should just masturbate and train til further notice! :/..;).l-).

I'm sorry if this is alot to handle for some ppl or it makes people take home issues over it. While it's being spoken about, that is what I had to say.

thank gOd for sports!

The short answer, I think, Cian, is that we don't really know. Some indications point to "yes," but I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

Just to be on the safe side, it probably isn't a good idea to masturbate anywhere in the training window (an hour before to an hour after strength training). That's the general impression I get from the studies and opinions I've been exposed to.

Giving up masturbation entirely is not something I'm willing to do, not for a small theoretical increase. If it was something like 100% better results for giving up sex, I honestly would consider it...Though I did give up porn a few months back, after reading some very convincing arguments about what it does to your perspective on sex.

Look I found this article.

Masturbation is a healthy sexual behavior. Like other behaviors, when over practiced or addicted it can lead to both psychological and physiological imbalances.
The side effects of such changes to the body include:
Fatigue. Feeling tired all the time
Lower back pain
Stress / Anxiety
Thinning hair / Hair Loss
Soft / Weak Erection
Premature Ejaculation
Eye floaters or fuzzy vision
Groin / Testicular Pain
Pain or cramp in the pelvic cavity or/and tail bone
