6000 calories - No Weight Gain

I met a guy at the gym this morning.. We got to talking,, He's 22 years old, about 5'11 and 120 lbs. Very skinny. He says for the last 2 1/2 months he has been eating 6000 cals per day.. His diet is excellent. All the right proteins, carbs, etc. He eats CLEAN. He is super frustrated about his weight and says he has even lost a couple pounds since raising his calories. I even asked him if he was positive he was eating 6000 cals a day and he is positive on that.

For one thing, I told him to pick up Scrawny to Brawny, not because I've read it but some of you guys says it works wonders. He also said he only runs 1 day a week for cardio.
Now his weight training.. thats another story. He does 3 days of upper body, 2 days of lower.. and he will do a morning of lifting, say like for upper,, and in the afternoon he will do upper again. I told him that that HAS TO STOP. No twice a day workouts. He says it just makes him feel the burn more and I told him he is overtraining and that would probly preventing him from gaining as much muscle since recovery time is interrupted.

But it still blows my mind that the kid can eat 6000 calories and lose weight?! wow! Any ideas here on advice to give him?

1. Highly doubt that he is taking in that kind of calories. If he insists he is, tell him to join the forum and post his diet. I would be very suprised.

2. He is an extreme ectomorph and therefore, must choose his workouts wisely. Currently, he is overtraining I am sure.

You dont need to eat 6000 cals till your weighing about 250lbs and a pro powerlifter.

There is usually a few of these guys i every gym. they are called bull artists

It doesn't matter how "POSITIVE" he think he is....we fail because we over-guesstimate everything. 6000 calories are what some bodybuilders do--I bet he is just taking in around 3000.

wow.. thanks guys,, yeah i guess he could be lying about the 6000 calories.. Thats too bad.. I hate when people say stuff that isn't true and expect you to help them! I really feel sorry for him either way.

Ding ding ding! We have a winner!

I totally agree. he's not tracking his diet properly...he only thinks he's eating that much, or just is outright bullsh*tting you.

6000 calories and a "clean" diet would involve not leaving the kitchen table.

I think it would even be difficult to eat 6000 cals with pizza and beer (but not impossible, haha!!)

I threw up at 5300 clean calories.. And I'm about twice his weight.

Does anyone else smell that? Is that bs through the cable?

Whew! Ok! Ya'll have me convinced that he's not eating that much! ;) Now Im just mad that he would lie to me! So much for trying to help someone! And he's the one that approached me to see if I knew anything... He said he thought I was a personal trainer. Ha ha!

Then consider it a compliment that he approached you. Also, don't consider it necessarily a lie about the 6000 kcals...he's seriously over-judging his intake. Tell him to write down everything that goes into his mouth for 3 days and see where he stands.

is it possible that he is take in 1 or 2 weight gainers a day? i've seen weight gainers in GNC that are 2000+ calories? I still don't think it would be very easy to eat/drink that many calories and not be sick...

He was probably hitting on you..or at least trying to.
