Zandola's Diary

so i should eat around 1570 and 2070 calories.. hmm, its funny how the more u eat the more u lose LOL
thank u

if my calorie intake in a day changes everyday. does it matter? but as long as it doesnt go below 1570 or above 2070?

Yes, that's fine. You're describing pretty much what I do- I try to eat within that 500 calorie range. It's pretty much impossible to make your calorie allowance identical day after day.

do u lose 1 kg a week?

and how many times do u work out in a week?
i think i lose 400 calories in one hour.. not sure

First my dear if you are going to quote from a website there are some rules you must follow. Here they are:

1. Identify that its a quote by either using "quote marks like this" or by using the
quote icon like this
2. Copy the url address and past it into the page below the quote using the link icon. If you don't use the link icon that's ok but you should always show where you got the quote from by pasting the web address.

There are good reason for this even in a non-academic situation like this forum. I won't go into the reasons here. But i appreciate it when people do this properly and can get very annoyed when they don't. I am not annoyed with you. You probably don't know about these things.

About the content of that information. Sometimes a lot of information is simply too much information. I think this constitutes too much unnecessary information for people who merely want to lose weight to look better or improve their health. Most of this i think we've already tried to explain to you but if not, we said it many times elsewhere around the forum. However, this quote is too much info. Who gives a shit is how i feel about it.

There are approximately 3500 calories in a pound of stored body fat. So, if you create a 3500-calorie deficit through diet, exercise or a combination of both, you will lose one pound of body weight. (On average 75% of this is fat, 25% lean tissue) If you create a 7000 calorie deficit you will lose two pounds and so on.

Worry about what it means if you really want but its totally unnecessary to understand for succesful weight loss.

Below is an important point. Its not necessary to do exercise for weightloss but its a great deal easier if you do do it.

This combination of diet and exercise is best for lasting weight loss. Indeed, sustained weight loss is difficult or impossible without increased regular exercise.

The second paragraph you quote is useful and I think Amy has explained the crux of it adequately. Below i've highlighted an important point from that paragraph.

As a guide to minimum calorie intake, the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) recommends that calorie levels never drop below 1200 calories per day for women or 1800 calories per day for men.

As to the last paragraph...

20% of your mainenance calorie needs are 514, so if you reduce your daily maintenance calories by 514, you will get a good safe and easy number to eat daily and lose weight on. I find sometimes the wording of these things can be ambiguous. Anyway i would have ignored that last para myself but it seems to be saying that you should not lower your calories by more than this to be safe. But frankly i think it wouldn't hurt if they spelt out the implications of what they mean by that since they then seem to contradict themselves by saying, its ok to reduce it by more if you weight loss goals require it.

Are you sure your calorie maintenance is 2570? That seems high to me. What did you say your exercise was in the calculator. Oh hell don't worry about it. The problem for me is i can't remember your details and i don't really want to go back reading through the thread to find them. Its just that i thought i worked out your weight loss calories to be 1440 on the basis of 3-5 moderate exercise a week. Now i need to go write up my diary :seeya:

I don't calculate how many calories I burn, it's very difficult to do and terribly unreliable. I use an estimation of amount of activity to add some calories to my daily allowance (the Harris Benedict Equation).

I've lost 5kg in six weeks, but I usually eat towards the high end of my 500 calorie range (which is different to yours), and I've had some "bad" days when I've been way over. If you want to lose closer to a kilo a week, try to eat between 1570 and 1820 calories a day- keeping it in the lower 250 calories of your safe weight loss range.

I work out every 2-3 days for between 1.5 and 2 hours- doing a combination of weight training and cardio (including swimming). I probably spend 1/3 of the time on weight training, and try to keep the weights I use as high as I can manage.

today i checked my weight and IM DOWN TO 82.5. omgg. i was 85 on the 5th of may.. isnt this exciting??? i dnt knw if its my new diet or what exactlyy.. but nw am double motivated cuz am skinny :p
i bought a calorie counter to count the burnt calories..
dd u guys knw tht a pound=3500 calories so in order for me to lose 2pounds(1kg) a week i have to lose 7000 calories a week.. divided into 6days is around 1100 calories i have to burn in order to lose it... wow.. and i think in my gym i lose 400 only
bcz its sort of an one hour class.. 30 min circuit training - 30 mins pilates..
so i do one class and a half sometimes. so i can lose 700 calories. but today i will calculate hw much i really burn :D i wanna get a treadmill so work out at home..
appearently, in one hour u can lose up to 500 calories. wow

Well done Zandy. See how well things go when you do it right?

If it makes you feel good to calculate how many calories you've burnt carry on. Enjoy yourself. :)
