Thanks but I would like to do this as fast as possible. Tired of looking like this.

What can I do besides walking to be active? I don't really have a treadmill or anything like that.

I'm serious. "As fast as possible" means doing some really unhealthy things. Take your time and do it right. You'll feel better and the weight loss will be steady and more likely to stay off. This is not a 'days' or 'weeks' matter. The changes you make have to be permanent anyway... the weight loss will follow. If you get too eager you're on the path to disappointing yourself and giving up.

Plus being young, doing extreme things can do even worse damage to your growth. Ultimately you're in charge, so what you do is your business. Just think, okay?

Walking is a great way to start. Get outside and enjoy it... get some good music or a friend. That's what I do. Being active boosts your metabolism, mood, helps sleep...

Hi Aaron, I'm from Calgary :p

Diet and exercise is the way to lose it. If you can't lift weights, do body weight based stuff:

-push ups
-situps
-chin ups (if possible)

Anything that uses your muscles.

Chop wood. Move piles of lumber. Shovel snow. Play basketball. It really doesnt matter.

The way you best lose weight is from what you eat. The very best things to cut your diet is:

-juices/pop
-un-necessary quick burning carbs: pastas, white bread, pastries, cookies, etc.

If you stop eating those things you will dramatically reduce your calorie intake, and you will actually not feel as hungry...(which is hard to say, because I was always hungry at 17)

Hi Aaron,

Welcome!! =)

You are only 17.... never go diet for fast results... you need healthy and balance diet at your age and exercise will get you to the weight you want!! You don't like your shape right now, but slowly, you will fall in love with your body (only if you are healthy)!!!!

Keep up the work and we are all here to support!

Cheers!

I stopped drinking pop the other day. I am now drinking just water, but I think i'll see how it goes with my construction job with my father because I did a calculator and it said I could lose 6000+ calories a day.. so even if i ate 4000 calories a day, that would be lost eassy peassy. Thanks though! And hello fellow Albertan!

Thanks! I hope I will fall in love with it ;) :smilielol5:

If you're really eating over 6000 calories a day, you really need to have that talk with your parents. That's a recipe for a very, very premature grave.

Hi Aaron,

6000 calories is a lot to burn no matter what you are doing for work. Instead of eating 4000 calories and then hoping to burn 6000 why don't you wait to see exactly how labor intensive the work is. I have written in your other posting as well but it looks to me like you are looking for some magic to get rid of the weight( maybe I am wrong but that is what is looks like) . There is NO magic pill or diet or exercise that will get rid of 80 pounds in a week or a month-lol. Remember how long it took you to gain the weight? It may take you as long or longer to lose it again. Like I told you before in my other posting- educate yourself about nutrition. You don't have to have your PHD or anything just know what you are eating and how many calories are in it. If you want you can even go so far as to know the fat, protein and carbs in it as well. It is great that you want to take the steps to lose weight- like I told you before I wish I had the courage and conviction to do it when I was 17.

Slow and steady weight loss is best. Believe me I know- I lost 100 pounds in about 5 months but it seemed to go back on just as fast. Know why? Because in 5 months I learned how to lose it but the things I did didn't become a habit. So I went back to my old ways not long after hitting my goal and gained it all back. Believe me that was worse for my body than if I just stayed overweight.

You can do this. I have complete faith in you but don't look for a magic pill or some magic exercise that will take it off in 2 months or some other short period of time. Weight loss is about lifestyle change and learning that eating right and exercising has to be part of your life. I have been way up in weight and way down in weight but don't spend your life doing what I did. Lose the weight slowly and learn as you go so that you don't yo-yo up and down like I did. Good Luck in this! You can do it!!

Yea Aaron, that amount of calories seems excessive. I work as an oilfield surveyor here: Walking through muskeg with 40+ pounds of gear each day, getting quads unstuck (that weigh 500 pounds) pounding iron bars, etc etc....I would eat about 3400 calories a day for maintenance. (I'd work hard enough in the summer, that I'd drink about 5L of water) Becareful what caloric estimators say about how much energy you burn from "x" exercise. They are not based specifically on your metabolism.

Personally, I work on an estimate of how much work I do a week, I don't worry too much about estimations of how many calories I burn doing a particular activity.

I've run your stats through this calculator (which is an estimation of how many calories you need): I'll give you three sets of figures, you need to judge which is right for you.

If your work (plus other exercise you do outside work) is equal to moderate exercise 3-5 days a week, you need to eat 3175 calories a day to stay the weight you are, 2675 calories to lose a pound a week, and 2175 calories to lose two pounds a week.

If it's equal to hard exercise or sport 6-7 days a week, you need to eat 3579 calories a day to maintain your weight, 3079 to lose a pound a week, and 2579 to lose two pounds a week.

If it's equal to very hard exercise as well as a physical job or double training (I personally doubt very many people at all fall into that category, and I suspect Ronbell would be more likely than you to do so based on your brief descriptions of what you do), you need to eat 4387 to maintain, 3887 to lose a pound, and 3387 to lose two pounds.

(These numbers will fall as you lose weight, so you need to re-evaluate from time to time)

And if you're not doing this work yet, you need to calculate on other measures. As I and others have said, 4000 calories is insane, and is not an amount to eat to lose weight. You need to do this the same way as everyone else, I'm afraid.

(And before you think this is a terrible imposition, I need to eat 1885 calories a day to lose a pound a week, or 1385 to lose two, and I manage fine)

10 hours a day of shoveling about 20+ lbs of sand a minute is VERY hard work.

Yes I understand theres no magic. I will see how it goes throughout the summer.:willy_nilly:

Try it, see if it works, and if you're still putting on weight/ not losing, change the number. But there's no way on earth you need 4000 calories a day.

I'd try 2400, and that's only if you've worked up a good sweat at least twice during the day (Not including when it's really hot outside)

That's also assuming you're about the same size as me: (5'8.5", 180 pounds)

Hi aaron, I am from toronto. Nice to meet you. I am 5'1" and i used to weight 138lbs.

My advise of weight loss would be to eat a lot more high protein food e.g: tofu, beans etc. I also used meal replacement shake to gives me more protein and have lost 20lbs in 3 months and have 8 more pounds to go.

Hope this helps.
