Yes I 1-rep maxed 130!

Don't waste your time maxing out in the gym unless you are using the determined max lifts to calculate your normal lifts, i.e. 85% of max or something along those lines.

People who train naturally need to build muscle as effectively and efficiently as possible and maxing out is not going to do that.

Just my 2 cents.

I'm sure people just use it to gauge increase in strength. Doing it once every few weeks or so won't hurt. Of course they can do it by looking at increases in reps and rep weight but where's the fun in that :)

Sure, fun is one thing, but once every few weeks I don't think so. Unless you rank fun as being more important than being successful in the gym?

Most don't realize how important consistency is when it comes to gaining muscle successfully and naturally, genetics aside. And by consistency, I don't mean making it into the gym everyday you are scheduled to, I mean making it into the gym when you are supposed to and training CORRECTLY each time.

Hmm I don't know if I see what you're saying about harming consistency. For me, I stretch, warm up for only a set of 5 explosive reps of very light weight (around 50%), max out then get right back to my regular regimen. It doesn't seem to affect my regular work out and I've had plenty of success in the gym.

How odl are you? Im 20 really short 5' 3" and weighin in at 125ish my 1 rep is 250. Just my solid area. as long as you can keep a steady pace like 5 pound increse every couple of weeks your gonna see it sky rocket without slowing down to much.

Nothing wrong with planned 1RM tests. Coming of a strength block i would do it everytime.

Depends on the goals but its not something you should be doing at random and you don't need to do it that often in most cases unless your a powerlifter.

Strong man competitions have been going on since we came down from the trees. I think the 1RM is important for self esteme if for nothing else. Especially for a beginning or returning fitness, bodybuilder, ect. It shows you are making progress and gives you at least one scale to mark progress by. I can see absolutely no harm in a 1RM once a month for the vast majority, even people who do not workout. For those who do not train regularly it may provide a bit of motovation.
