Wrestling

when you have a scheduel like ours though its hard. we have football, then wrestling, then rugby. so for football you want to be as big as possible, then wrestling you want to be as light as possible, then back to rugby where you want to be downright beastly. so with football for about 2 months, then wrestling for 3, then rugby for 1.5 its hard to fluctuate your weight that much without either constantly being hungry, or getting fat.

Well, obviously cutting weight is alot harder than i thought it was. I looked past the fact that you have a wrestling "season" rather than just one fight every 2 months or whatever. I guess whatever weight you drop down to you're pretty much walkn around with all the time rather than fighting 20 pounds below your actual weight

We went into a rough part of the city and did pretty well. We left going 2-1 even though it should have been 3-0.

1st match - We should have won this 1 vs Rockland. it was 33-32 when it came down to the heavyweights. We lost, and our heavyweight rarely loses...but this was a tough team. Our captain, Luis, is no longer undefeated as he lost to these guys. They were pretty cool though, whether they won or lost individually their team gave the players a standing ovation after each match and the individual wrestlers came over and shook our coaches hands. Respect to them.

2nd match - vs the home team, Brockton. We did really well. This whole match was basically a bunch of brawls put together. We ended up winning 54-22. Score was pretty decieving, as it was like 27-22 midway, then we just took control.

3rd match - I felt bad for this team. They didn't have enough players to fill their weight class but they still put up a fight. We won like 66-6 but they still didn't lay down. Their wrestlers put up a good battle when they were able to.

It was sooo ****ing nasty tonight. 1 kid broke his arm...holy **** it was sick. I'm watching my varsity when we all hear screams from the other side and we look over to see a kid like spazzing out with like his arm really Fd up. Coaches had to like take him down and his left arm was extended out and lets say his upper arm was going 1 way and his forarm was almost parrallel a few inches away. Firefighters and EMT arrived and they eventually put a huge black thing with ice galore on it. About a half hour or so later the kid walked out slowly and painfully to a standing ovation we all gave him. I feel bad for the guy, he was a 120 I think.

Then another kid got choked out. I guess he just didn't want to quit lol, he ended up blacking out for a little while. Alot of kids we were wrestling ended up tapping out too because of various choke holds. Fun stuff :D lol

I lost my FIRST JV match. It was crazy...to the team our varsity lost I lost. I remember shaking hands with the kid (who was obviously not 160, he was like 6 inches taller, much much much stronger, and was bigger mass wise) then grappling and him going for my head alot. He hit me with his head soo much I felt so weird inside my head. Then all of a sudden after he hits my head w. his head hard he shoots my leg. I didn't see it quick enough to sprawl. He took me down and idk what happened, but I ended up being down in referee position. I tried to get out but he was pretty good. I ended up getting craddled 1 way or another and dont know wtf was going thru my mind. I guess I didn't realise that I was on my back and I was just going for his grip. When the ref blew the whistle I realised and was like "****!!"

So my school went 2-1. We are now 2-5. I am 0-1 so far. I'm planning on losing a few pounds and saying that I am 152.

Back in 79' my father made All American 3 times at wrestling and he is begging me to join wrestling, but every year I don't do it and focus on Football. God that gets on my nerves...

jman you should join, its funny saying that cause we have a wrestler on our team whose name is Jamie and he calls himself the "J-MAN" Hes prety cocky lol.

I don't like the idea of maintaining weight thats one of the main reasons I don't do wrestling, plus I don't feel like trying anything new. Not this year, but I might next year depending on how I do in football next season.

Join! What year are you in? You want to get there as soon as possible so that you get a feeling for everything - mat awarness, point system, rules, moves, etc. My godfather, I just found out today, was actually the 2nd in the state for 2 years. Thought that was pretty cool.

Do it J man, you won't regret it. You'll only regret waiting this long to join.

Embarressing. We drove 2 hours to an inner city school that has like 4 towns connected to get destroyed. We lost 50+ to 5. Our 125 didn't wrestle because he didn't make weight. Our second guy got flagged for unsportsman like conduct for swearing after his loss. Both captains lost Armando- 7-3 and Luis- 3-2. The only one on our team that won a match was our heavyweight, he got a pin. The coach said he's never had a team lose this badly(hes been wrestling since '76 and coaching for 9 years). The ride home was in silence, longest ride of the season.

The ref favored them alot more than he should have. Our guy got unsportsman like conduct for saying a swear word under his breath, while when our heavyweight pinned theres, their heavyweight threw his headgear, and went over and punched the wall several times...very loudly and he didn't get insportsman like conduct. A few times he did super fast back points for them. He also had a smirk many times when he raised the other team member's hand in victory after each match.

The place was ghetto as ****. Locker room was small as hell with broken windows, trash all over. For some reason there were only a few white people there when we showed up. They were all spanish and a handful couldn't speak any english. I'd estimate there were something around 40 wrestlers, and 50 people in the audience. There were also at least a dozen or two babies. Some of the wrestlers actually were the fathers of some of the kids.

Coach told us that they were going to be a very physical team and hell, they were. I gained a ****load of respect for our 119. He went up against a kid that was a foot shorter, and a ton more jacked than he was. He ended up in a position thats hard to get out of and is painful as ****. You're basically on your stomach, and the kid is ontop, but his legs are underneath yours and he is keeping your hips down while pulling your legs up and upper body up. It stretches your whole body in a few different ways. It's so painful, but not only was the kid doing the move to him, he was twisting his torso over to get a pin. So the kid is being mangled in at least 4 different ways - legs, arm was across his body+face, torso, and he got a brutal crossface done to him. But he was taking the pain. His face was dead red, he had tears in his eyes, you could see he was in immense pain...but he had the balls to not tap out. He lasted for about 40 seconds in that position with the kid pulling him the whole time. When the time was about to be up, 10 seconds left, the opponent put him onto his back...so he struggled like **** to get off, and he managed to stay partially off his back. He ended up losing 2 rounds later. But coach was proud of him.

JV didn't wrestle tonight.

Our school record is 2-6. So far the majority of the teams we've faced are in the top 20 in the state. Still no excuse though...

Yesterday was decent at wrestling...

We went 2-1 only loss was to the ranked team, I forget what they are ranked but they are pretty high on the charts.

One of my team's captain, Luis...aka Luis the Beast...aka Wolverine, broke one of his oponents ribs. It's weird because Luis is probably the nicest guy you want to meet, but he is just so strong and good at wrestling. I guess last year when he was a junior he made some kid blackout and the kid was drooling on the mat and everything.

I wrestled JV. I lost 6-1 =/ At least I didn't get pinned this time...so I guess I'm making improvments

My personal record is 0-2 and my team's record is 4-7. Our 152 has the best record on the team (9-1) and Luis has the second best (9-2)

We did alright. We faced a ranked team (that means within top 25 in the state) but we lost. At one point it was 39-9 when our captain got up and beasted his kid, and our 189 did a great job as well. Armando couldn't wrestle because he has something on his nose that he got from another team. He went to the docs and the doc said it was "a cold sore-like herpie". So, we're gonna get killed tomorrow with suicides :/

We lost something like 40's - 20's.

When I get back to school, I'm going to talk to the Wrestling Coach. I decided that if he can help me cut to 150-160 pounds (until my belly is gone) then I might go ahead and join. If I do join I hope I get alot stronger and leaner then I am right now, and hopefully, I won't regret it.

Yesterday was the beginning of our Catholic Conference. Basically so far we have been wrestling nothing but ranked teams that are public schools. This should be the easier part of our schedule.

We wrestled a school that is about a mile from my house. We were losing 22-0 when our 152 came up. He beasted the kid. It didn't stop there, our 160 (Armando), 171 (Luis), and 189 all won their matches. Everybody was so into it. Our 215 lost, but our heavyweight, and 103 won theirs. At this point, after our 103 won, we took the lead. 30-28 with only 2 wrestlers left. Our 112 (not our usual 112, he was sick) lost on a tec meaning he was losing by 15 points, which means they get 5 points. So it was 33-30 when it came up to our last guy. Alot of us really thought we would win as our 119 is really good. He lost a really tough battle. We ended up losing 36-30. Coach was pissed. We lost again, in our own house.

We are now 4-9 =\

Varsity had a tournament fri and sat, but did really bad. 1st time in 9 years we did as bad as we did. Varsity has another tournament Saturday, so I won't have updates for a bit.

wow...im so envious of u guys. I wrestled my freshman and sophmore years but had to have knee clean out seurgery at the end of my sophmore year, I never got back in to it but still help the guys out cause i wasnt half bad. any ways....good luck to all yall!

here's an update on our team: we look so absolutely unpolished its sad. with a meet coming up next week against a fairly tough team (not necesarily GOOD but tough sons of b**ches) we're looking waaay too soft. if our coach was harder on us, it would be alot better; not that he's a bad coach, he just doesnt work us hard enough i find. he makes us work and all, but he doesn't seem to have the competitive edge i've noticed in other coaches. basically, he won't step it up for us, so we need to step it up ourselves and soon.

If only you had our coach, albers! He works us like we're machines. But it's worth it, best shape of our lives!

Sorry to hear that excder. My brother's friend did freshman and sophmore year, and was on track to be captain (coach even said) but between soph and junior year you know those huge construction trucks? one of those blow/buckets in front fell on his arm and like broke it in a ton of places. It still looks really weird, but its healthy. He just never got back into wrestling after that. He still regrets it.

Tomorrow my team faces our school's biggest rival. 'The Prep'. Our 189 gets to wrestle the number 1 189 in the state...so this meet will be one of the best of the year. Let's see what we got!

We lost. 50-15 ouch. A couple of our guys weren't there so we had to forfeit and lose 6 points per forfeit right off the bat. Only winners were... Armando, 145, 112, 140. Luis lost, our 152 lost. It was just an all around bad night.

Our 140 was the last match of the night. The kid's name is Nikko. Going into the 3rd, final, round it was 4-3. Nikko tied it up at 4 before the time ran out. So it went into overtime. Before overtime was done the kid hit hm really hard in the balls, so he was down for like 5 minutes. Even after that he got back up and finished overtime, still tied. So it went into overtime and the first 30 seconds he kept the kid from scoring. The next 30 second round, he got an escape by running around the mats and finally breaking free with 4 seconds left. He thought it was over because the ref blew the whistle, but the kid came up behind him and took out his knees. So there was a big argument. We won that won 5-4 so it was good tho.

Our 189 didn't face the top 189 in the state. He was actually facing the top all around kid in New England. At one point it was 7-1 when he started playing around with our 189. Standing straight up, motioning hands to attack him. At one point the top NE kid shot, and took our 189 out of bounds, and the ref blew the whistle, but the kid didn't stop. For about another 10 feet he drove our guy out and then finished it off with a takedown. Our 189 got right into his face and there was a mini fight. In the end though, the other kid won. =\

They had double the amount of JV we did, so our wrestlers had to wrestle once, and then re-wrestle a different guy. Which is sort of retarded but w.e

The first guy I wrestled I should have won. I'm sooo damn pised I didn't, I'd give anything to have that match back. I got "pinned" even though my left shoulder wasn't down and the ref sucked badly, late in the second round. I was so pissed that he called it a pin, my shoulder was clearly a few inches, and then the kid jolted me, but I kept it a bit off the mat...but I guess the ref just wanted to go home early.

About 10 minutes after my first match, I had to wrestle again. The second guy I wrestled, I have no words. The kid basically went out and embarressed me. Maybe half way or a little more into the first round I was pinned. The kid just controled the match.

But the 2nd wrestler definitley wasn't 160. These guys are known for going down a weight class. As in if they're 160, they say they're 152. Or if they're 171 they say they're 160. For JV there is no weigh in so most of the time you can get away with it. Even last year I've been told our coach had the whole JV team wrestle 1 weight class lower to make it even. SJP is a bunch of *******

So, our team record is 4-10 =\ and my personal record is 0-4 =[

We had a meet with two schools today, our first matches in a LONG time, so we were a little rusty.

We got to face a very weak school first though, we won every weight class except one, and I had such an easy opponent I actually felt bad for him.

Then came the next team, they were really ghetto and tough as hell. Some of them didnt even have singlets and the ref made them wrestle in shorts. It was really intense and just about every match was tight.

I got to wrestle here to and had a close but very dissapointing match. My guy was pretty strong and mean (he used an illegal throw right away that I wasnt ready for and the ref threatened to eject him) we fought really close for the first round which he ended up winning 5-4 and then in the second round i had two opportunities to pin him, but he kept gettin out and reversing it on me. In the end he won and the mathc and I was really pissed, but i know i can take him.

Thanks to two default wins that we got, we ended up beating them too and our record moves to 5-0!

We have another meet friday against our biggest rivals, but apparently theyre no good this year.

We had a tournament on Saturday, and we came in 4th. Many of our players placed pretty well...

Luis (captain, 171) and Armando (captain 160) both placed in the top 3. We also had 4 honorable mentions. So it was a pretty good tournament.

Uh oh. We drove 2 damn hours back and forth to go 1-2. =\ and whats even worse? our 2 captains went straight to the hospital after the meet.

First team we wrestled, coach was  PISSED  we gave up 3 matches in the last 10 seconds of the 3rd round. 2 of which we were winning, and 1 we were tied. We lost to that team.

Second team we faced was pretty good. Our 140, 145, 152, 160, and 171 STRAIGHT all got pins. It was insane, our side was going crazy. Then, unfortunately, we lost the last 3. But we ended up beating that team.

Last team was the home team. I didn't get to see most of it, but we got manhandled. I think we lost around 50-6? something in that range. This is where Luis (Captain, 171) got a possible broken wrist. This is the toughest guy on the team, so when I saw him clinching his wrist and gritting his teeth, I knew it was very bad. Armando (Captain, 160) got his shoulder injured a little bit, possibly dislocated, but nobody knows. Right after the meet (only 3 guys wrestled after Luis' possible broken wrist) Armando's dad took the both of them straight to the hospital. I'm praying both of them are alright.

JV's didn't wrestle, well, only a couple of them did...but since my weight class has like 6 guys, only 3 160's got the chance.

Our team record is now 5-14 =\
