workout before or after breakfast?

Simple question really, is it best to workout before or after breakfast?
If I were to do it before breakfast then would it be best to have something small and with quick release energy before I workout so that I at least have some food in me?

It depends on what your goals are. For cutting bodyfat, a good cardio workout before you eat will burn up stored fat. For building muscle, eat some good carbs for breakfast, and then hit the weights!

Carbs are where you get your energy from, and I know that after my bowl of oatmeal yesterday morning, I was hitting the weights harder than I ever have!

Yeah my goal is bulking. The reason why I'm wondering which way to go is because I know that your post workout meal is supposed to be pretty big on carbs and protein, and I can't really see myself being able to eat a mid morning meal like that once I start back at school again.

Personally, I can't workout on an empty stomach so I always eat something about a half hour or so before a workout, and then a meal about an hour afterwards.

I already do whey protein 2 - 3 times a day, but I'm trying to bulk so I don't think I'd consider a protein shake and a bit of fruit as a good meal, especially as the post workout meal.

i tried workout out on an empty stomach years ago and didnt care for it. i believe its more about calories consumed vs burned over the course of the day over whats burned in and around a workout.

what to consume is an individual matter and depends on what you have time for and what you can digest that doesnt interfere with the workout itself. a liquid meal 15-30 minutes before a workout is fine. if 45 minutes or longer, have some solid food.

i do an 30 or 45 minute exercise video when i get up every day, about 7:30 AM, but don't eat until i get to work at 9:30.
sundays, i do a longer video, but have coffee first. last week i was really hungry so i had some melon salad, too.
