working out alone

can anyone suggest a good routine for working out alone without a spotter? i try to squat in a power rack in case i get stuck. i bench press a little more than my weight.(2 reps @225,wt is 210). i'm scared to go to failure cause once i got tired doing a lot of reps with only 135 on and had to dump weight.(left collars off lucky for me.) i'm6'5" and would like a strength routine mixed with cardio. i want strength with a lean look. also,i'm weaker in squat than bench.(about 5 or 6 reps with 185 tires me out.) can anyone help. thanks.

hi!

I also workout at home without a spotter, but most of the times there is someone at home for which I can scream for help :)
In my workout, the exercises where a spotter would be more necessary are the squats, bech presses and overhead presses. Using a power rack you can minimize the risk of these exercises by putting safety bars at the lowest point of the rack where you would be safe in case of failing the lift. See for instance to see how to setup your rack in order to bech more safely.

if you have access to a power rack, use it for squats and presses. i lift at home, i have a smith machine and just use some saw horses for free weights. plan on getting a rack by the end of the year.
