Work out guide for me.

I am 17 and I weigh 160ish and Im 5'4. I am currently fat. I need a guide to start working out, and Im guessing this would be the best place to do it. I used to work out, then I had gotten lazy with school, and work. So I need a guide on how to work out.

My equipment:
Dumbbells, 2.5, 2.5, 7.5, 7.5lbs
Pushup bars
Bowflex

Ive heard that bowflex is for "toning" but not sure. For Cardio I was planning on Cycling two miles, but school starts in 8 days, so ehh.

Any help is appreciated.

is there no way that you could join a gym or get more equipment?

2.5 and 7.5 DB's are going to do nothing for you.

"Toning" is a myth. The light DBs aren't gonna do you any good. You could do the SEAL workout (I can't find it now but I may post it later), which is great for building endurance (and I think) losing fat. I normally recommend heavy weights for weight loss but I suppose that isn't an option. One thing to remember, if you can do but one thing, then it should be to have a deficit diet.

They are right about the baby weights, they aren't going to be very helpful for the most part.

The Bowflex isn't a bad machine in general, although most everything you can do on it are isolation exercises, and I much prefer compounds.

That being said, you have what you have, so you do the best you can with it.

You have a bowflex, use it. (I'm assuming it belongs to your parents, so selling it and buying a bench and free weights is probably out). It's a strength training machine, there is no such thing as "toning" a muscle. Muscles either shrink (atrophy) or grow (hypertrophy) - they don't tone.

However, if you increase muscle and reduce body fat, that will help you to look "toned". Do some cardio and some strength training, and make good dietary choices - and you're off to a good start.
