Will weight lifting help?

At this point in time my sole aim is to lose fat. I'm still at 200lbs at 6'2 tall, not packing much lean muscle either.

My question is simple, are there any benefits in adding weight lifting into my cardio routine? I'm not looking to build muscle yet, just cut off the fat first. Would weight lifting have any negative effects on this, or somehow slow down my fat-loss progress.

Thanks.

weight training speeds up you're metabolism, its definatley good. Also, you might gain some muscle while loosing the fat ;) which is always good. Weight training also helps you keep muscle when you diet, not that you would loose alot if you have never been weightlifting before, but it cant hurt.

Thanks, I have got some muscle around my bi/tricep and a pretty good chest -this is mostly from the nature of my work.

But if weight training helps me maintain this one positive thing I've got, then I'll stick to it. Cheers.

If you are worried about number then yeah. weight training will make you add weight. but who gives a flying one about the numbers on the scales. weight training will add muscle, start to chage the shape of your body, help ballence and bone alignment and posture, decrease stress, increase testosterone, increase metabolism...
and thats all before we even get started on the increase in strength.

Every one should do some form of weight training, men/women, fat/thin, old/young
