Wide Receiver

I play wide receiver and corner for my high school football team. i wanted to know if they’re are any muscle groups i should concentrate on more than others, ones that could help me catch better. I know how to jump higher and run faster but was wondering about catching, i don’t really know what muscles are involved in that. I was thinking probably forearms but i’m not sure. but anyhow is there any muscle groups you guys think i should focus on to improve my performance, because i know wide receivers aren’t the biggest kids on the field, so i don’t want to get huge, just better. Also, sorry if i placed this in the wrong thread, i wasn’t sure where to put it.

Thanks,
Ryan

Catching? :p

No, last time I checked, the ball did not weight 50lbs. ;)

Therefore, just focus on your evasion, speed, and hand eye coordination. More muscle (bigger muscle) will most likely only work against you if you plan to play Wide reciever.

the ones we play with weigh 300lbs...no just kiddign, ok i can do the speed thing on my own but know any good evasion drills i could do myself or hand eye coordination?

Thanks Nobody,
Ryan

Well, since I go to sleep at 9pm, and right now it's 3 minutes past, I do not have a whole lot a time. Therefore, I'll reply tomorrow. But here are just general tips;

To increase evasive manauver's, just do sprint's, and near when you reach top speed, practice sudden stops, sudden twists, ect. Anything really that you would see that would help you dodge the defensive guys after you.

For hand eye coordination, there is a program that can help you increase the speed at which your eyes read, (i.e.- move) , this MIGHT help, actually, it could greatly help since you could easily switch behind the ball and your hands very quicky to make sure it lands in your hands, however, since most widerecievers dont REALLY have that problem ( they almost always catch the ball), the hand eye coordination is not really all to important, unless of course you miss the ball EVERY SINGLE TIME, which in this case would lead me to believe that your highschool football team isn't all that great. :p

Conclusion;

Speed. Evasion. If your fast, and can't get touched, your the perfect wide reciever. That's all you need my friend. ;)

nobody, yeah i guess your right, i do pretty much always catch it, so never mind about all this, and just for kicks...our varsity team is one of the best i the state, in PA. so far this year were 2-0 we have a game tommorrow.
