Why use a steam room?

Most gyms have these so what is the point of them?

i go in as it, erm

i dont actually know why i go in.

i overheard a trainer the other day saying that they burn fat, surely this is not true and is just water loss?

what are they meant to do exactly?!

The unique benefits of a steam room have become increasingly popular in modern society. The physiology of perspiration includes how sweating helps rid the body of wastes, regulates body temperature, and invigorates our largest organ, the skin. The metabolic effects of steam baths, the positive influence of negative ions released by steam, and the more subtle spiritual and social benefits of the steam experience all contribute to a heightened sense of well-being. Medical studies show that frequent steam bathing helps reduce stress and keeps your circulatory system running smooth.

In russia, the old style steam rooms actually contain a hot bucket of water and birch tree twigs/leaves. you dip the twigs into the water and then start smacking urself with them, it opens up the pores and lets more toxins out. it seems horrific, but really works very well and gives you baby soft skin, i think if we were to do that in america, people would run lol.
