Why no machines?

Cos on most machines your isolating the muscles too much.

Take bench press as an example.
On the machine you have a set path for the resistance, so the handels that your pushing can't go off course. With dumbells you have to control the weight and keep it on course, other wise it will fall off to one side and you'll get hurt!

The main benefit of the dumbells is that you are not just working the pecks, front delts and triceps but many other stabalising muscles called fixator muscles.

So very basicly by using the machines you are taking the load with only your big muscles and the weaker muscles are staying weak.
by using free wieghts you are working the large muscles the same, but also working the fixators. You get much better results and better practical appliction.

ive also heard machines will make ur body uneven because for example u have that bar like biscep curl, u can be doing more on 1 hand then the other, but u dont notice it cuz its 1 bar, rather when u use dumbells, u are forcing both hands to get the same workout

id say this applies to most cable machines,... where u use more of ur right side if ur right handed and vice versa

exactly. Tho machines do have there uses sometimes. 1 they are more safe for begginers and ppl recovering from inguries.

sometimes if my shoulders hurt and I wanna work my biceps i'll use the bicep curl machine as this reduces the stress on the delts. or if my triceps hurt i'll use the peck fly... etc...

Thats why it helps if you have a good gym. most of the equipment you would never buy for your home, but its there if you ever need it.

Ha, acctually no. I wrote that before I read your post.
