A 14 year olds diary

Yes. I'm 14. Im not overweight, yet. Im like .6 away from being overweight (BMI calculator tells me so), but since i am that close to being overweight..i want to lose weight. I weigh 180 and i am 6 foot and i want to lose 40 pounds or so to be in the 140-150 range. I started my diet yesterday and it went pretty well, this is what i ate, and my exercise.
Breakfast
Honey Nut cheerios with 2% milk
Lunch
Ramen- sooo much sodium dude
Dinner
Chicken Patty with Bread + Fries
Snacks
5 Iced Oatmeal Cookies
Exercise
30 mins of jogging on treadmill at 4 mph

TODAY:
Breakfast:
Honey Nut Cheerios with 2% milk
Lunch: A chicken patty, no bread didnt have any lol
Dinner: 2 pieces of Chicken, Drumsticks.
Snacks: Peanut Butter Sandwich, like 13 pieces of gum lmao.. an apple and a tangarine.
Didn't really do any exercise, couldnt find my earphones lol lame excuse i know

so yeah, any comments or anything just leave em i guess.

If you are serious about wanting to lose weight, then you're going to have to ditch the cookies, the sugary cereal, the fries, and other high calorie and low nutrient foods.

I know it's harder when you're living at home and reliant on your parents for what you eat, but if you can request that they buy some healthier items, that would be good.

If you are going to eat cereal, at least stick to something like plain Cheerios or mini-wheats (not the frosted kind) or something like that. Even better for breakfast would be something like yogurt or cottage cheese and fruit, or hot oatmeal (don't get the packets with the flavor and sugar, but the plain packets and add your own sweetener).
 
Backk, today I ate a peanut butter sandwich for breakfast, had spaghetti with sauce for lunch and rice for dinner, and since I heard rice isn't that good for you, I decided I had to exercise today,, so I ran on the treadmill for 30 mins at 4 mph again, I want and elliptical beacause I heard it's way better than a treadmill but i don't know if my mom would buy one... Does anyone know how much a typical elliptical trainer will cost?? Well yeah, I'll probably eat an apple to finish off the day.

Kara, thanks for the information, I am gonna stop eating those foods.. Are rice and spaghetti bad for you? As for fries, I'll give them away at school at lunch I guess.
 
I heard rice isn't that good for you,
Plain white rice is pretty much empty calories - lots of carbs for little nutrition. If you can have brown rice instead, that would be better. Otherwise, stick to 1/2 cup serving or less.

You "heard" this? Where? And why is it better? The reason I'm asking you these questions is because this is part of a BIG problem in getting fit and losing weight. People "hear" things and then they repeat the things that they "hear" as though they were fact ... but they really have no idea. So tell my why an elliptical is better than a treadmill ... and if you can't ... then maybe rethink that statement. :)

I'd encourage you to get out of the mindset of bad foods and good foods and think in terms of your overall diet.

Is rice bad for you? No. But if you're wanting to lose weight, you should consider how many carbs you are ingesting and how much nutrient value you're getting from those carbs. White rice, as I said above, is high in carbs, low in fiber, and low in overall nutrients. You'd be better off with brown rice.

Is spaghetti bad for you? No, if eaten in moderation. But a big bowl of spaghetti noodles has a TON of calories and a lot of carbs. Do you know how much spaghetti you're eating? A proper serving size is 1 cup of cooked spaghetti (about 2 oz uncooked). If you're eating a big bowl of it, you're probably eating too much, and eating too much can be bad for you.
 
Today sucked ass, here's what I ate
breakfast- two small muffins with orange
juice
lunch- pizza with whole wheat bread (where I live they changed it from regular bread to wheat bread which really annoyed me but helps me now)
dinner- spaghetti
just finished my 30 mins on the treadmill at 4mph again, working on increasing time but we'll see.
I have to buy a digital scale off eBay cause my moms cheap analog scale is some crap. So yeah I hope I win the auction, so I can track my progress finally.

Hey, we're kinda in the same sort of boat here except I'm a lot shorter haha, but I also want to lose about 40 pounds or so :) I'm 16. So maybe we could like motivate each other or something? I d'nnno.

Haha, I'm the same when it comes to gym exercising, I NEED my music :L

K well today was pretty good calories wise.
breakfast: 2 muffins with orange juice. Not mixed together of course.
For lunch i had chicken nuggets with a roll
For dinner i had rice
and i had an apple
ran on the treadmill for 20 mins because i felt like i was fading in and out, then when i got off, i was all shaky and stuff. it was weird.

ANyways,ihatetreadmills because i hate running. i so rather have a exercise bike. sitting down? sweet.

Oh yeah, i bought a scale off ebay, digital one. when i get it, that will be my weigh in day,i hope i have lost some weight.

You can't live off of rice. Where's the protein? Where are the veg? Fruit?

Calories are not the only thing that's important - nutrients are crucial, especially at your age.

Ahaha, swap? I'd love a treadmill :p But some days sitting and exercise = MEGAA BONUS.

Ughh homework, it gets way worse as well (I didn't think it was possible either) :banghead: Christmas holidays soon(ish) though :)
 
Successfully completed 1 week of dieting..YAYYAYAYA

[slur removed] needs to send my god damn scale so i can weigh myself. ANyways did 30 mins on treadmill ate same old same old gotta runnnnn

ouch! where do 14 y/o get off talking that way? I would have been eating soap for a year for that, lol.

Well i really wanted to do a weigh in, so i used my moms cheap analog scale..
it was like at 175. But i dont trust it. SO i will just wait for digital scale to see if it was telling the truth. :conehead:
