When you aren't weightlifting...

I don't have the best genetics. Even at the lightest I have been in all my adult life (157 lbs), I still had a (small) gut. I don't think I'll ever have a six pack :(

When I gain weight, my arms get bigger (good), but so does the gut (bad).

When I lose weight the gut shrinks (but doesn't disappear) and so do the arms.
 
Sounds like here in San Diego as well - not too kind when you aren't in the shape you want to be in. But I'm on the opposite side of the scale - skinny as hell when I don't keep up with what I eat...
