When do muscles grow?

When your lifting weights, at what time is it that your muscles grow? When you sleep? During the days your not working out? How does this work? Thanks in advance guys! ;)
 
when you're not lifting.. hence why rest and eating properly ALL the time is so important.

Although muscles can grow up to a 1/4" in the gym, it's just a temporary pump..
 
Muscles grow all the time - they can also be broken at any time - however the time at which muscles experience the most growth is sleep.
 
Upregulation of protein synthesis starts within an hour or two of a training session, and lasts 24-72 hours after.
