Whats the bar weigh on a smith?

I know I know, stay away from the smith. But how much does a the bar weigh on a smith machine? It has those elastic bungees so I just always thought that made the bar lighter.

I remember something like it reduces 15 pounds so just the bar would be along the lines of 30 pounds.

There's a machine similar to this one at my gym, and it will completely hold the bar. So the only weight you're lifting, is what you put on top of the bar.

no; I work out in a crappy school gym. Do you reccomend doing different kinds of squats over doing them on a smith?

A smith machine doesn't follow the body's natural movement pattern. Whenever possible, use a BB.

You can use DBs for squats, but you're not likely to be able to go past parallel due to arm length.
