What would happen if...

Not an accurate way of measuring.

Actually, you by keeping track of your temperature every day you can see if your metabolism is slowing down or speeding up.

Is it a myth that metabolism slows with age or is that true?
No, Its not.

things like decreased muscle mass, endocrine changes(testosterone decline, TSH decline, and so on), and just less activity in general can help explain this.

I'm a tad short on time but I can get more detailed if needed.

Thermoregulation is a precise process that the hypothalamus plays a key role in. The body does not allow your temperature to sway by very much when it can. Even a slight change of only 2 degrees can have a vast impact on enzymatic activity within the body.

Your BMR itself does not fluctuate from day to day by much, anyhow.

Taking your temperature is not an accurate way to measure metabolic rate.

So I've always wondered what would happen if you ate a TON of calories in one sitting.
Or even drank them through energy supplements?

How would your body handle this unexpected move? Would it use and store only so much then simply reject the rest?

Its a simple question, and might seem a tad silly but I've just been wondering :)

What do you think happens to couch potatoes who pig out on junk food/beer? They get the so called beer bellies.

Bears for example bulk up extra layers of fat and then when hibernating switches the treadmill to the fatburning zone and voilà?! Bears could be used in fat loss commercials :)

I wish it were a myth, but I can tell you it's true. When I was 20, I was skinny as a rail; very little body fat. Now I'm 45 and working at losing a bunch of body fat! My metabolism changed! My 16 year old son is like I was, even skinnier. Every once in a while, when I walk by him, I'll lift my shirt and say, "Look Ryan...this could happen to you if you're not careful later in life!"
