What do you do when you are sick?

I've been feeling like poo since last Thursday. I did work out Thurs morning, but honestly thought I was going to vomit by the time I was done (this is when I first admitted that I might be getting sick).

Since Friday I have taken the dog for a few three mile walks, but that is it as far as exercise goes.

This morning was my first day back to the gym and after 35 minutes on the elliptical, I HAD to stop, so again I did not get any weight training in. :(

I don't get sick often and I hate being sick so I usually deny I am sick until I can no longer deny it, then I get very whiney and pissy, because it messes with my life.

What do y'all do when you get sick as far as continuing with your work-outs go?
Stop? Do as much as you can? Just do a little and take it easy?

If your'e that sick, just hold off, or do moderate cardio. If you keep training hard you'll just stress the immune system and take longer to get 100% well.

Are you doing a lot of cardio prior to weight training? You say you did 35 mins of elliptical then had to stop so no weight training....you should NOT being doing cardio followed by weights. I generally don't advise to do both on the same day, but if you must, lift weights first, THEN do cardio. If you do a ton of cardio first you put the body in a catabolic state, so by the time you hit the weights, your body is starting to consume muscle tissue for energy, plus the cortisol levels just keep climbing, which keeps in on a catabolic state for a longer duration once you finally stop training.

Malk: I agree with your assessment on cardio last; unless the goal is for weight loss and cardiovascular health and the weight training is a secondary form of exercise.

The rule I follow: If the symptoms are above the neck, you can work out (IE Head cold, runny nose etc). If the symptoms are below the neck (IE achiness, vomiting etc) let yourself heal.
