what are strip sets?

you do an exercise with a weight that you can do only x amount of times, then drop to a weight you can only do x more times, and on and on...

for example, as in the article where it calls for a 3x5 strip set. you do weight you can only do 5 times. drop to a weight you can do only 5 more times, then finally drop to a weight you can only do 5 more times.
 
when you're done with that first set of five, you drop the weight, and do another set of five, then drop again for another set of five. so its 3x5 with progressively lower weight, but its continuous.
 
ok. how long do I wait between sets? and yesterday I did an exmaple of strip sets

cable push downs (for triceps)
8 x 140 lbs
8 x 125 lbs
8 x 95 lbs

eZ bar curls (for biceps)
8 x bar + 25 + 25 lbs
8 x bar + 20 + 20 lbs
8 x bar + 17.5 + 17.5 lbs
[don't know how much an eZ bar weighs]

Should I be doing these strip sets with 5 reps instead of 8 reps?

i waited maybe about 10-20 seconds between each because i thought the thing was to start as soon as you adjusted the weights right? or do you wait longer? thanks for the help
 
i was under the impression that they were continuous...the only time ive seen them mentioned is in part two of that article in my earlier post. i magine they would be beneficial at nearly any rep range...
