what age should i start my son working out?

my son is begging me to let him start working out. the problem is he's 9. although he does weigh 110 and he's about 4'4". i want to get him going in the right direction. he's a hoss. he's about able to put me down. if i didn't fight dirty, he probably would! any help is appreciated. -chris
 
I would suggest you set him up with a "Bodyweight" routine. Besides, until his body starts producing certain "hormones" at a greater level he will not reap much reward from any external loads.

Get him running, and get him on a bodyweight only routine.

Heres a few suggestions,
Situps
Leg raises
crunches
Chin ups
Pushups
Elevated pushups (then Handstand push ups later on)
Dips
Squats
Lunges

Oh and btw Do not have him run with weights of any kind.
