Weight Training/Cardio plan, looking for suggestions and feedbacks

Hey guys,

Im an 18 yr old college student basically jus tryin to lose some weight initially while preparing myself for intense weight training after reaching around 12-15% BF.
Right now im 5'8 male, weighing 160 lbs. BF- not sure but probably around 20%

Goal is to lose around 15 lbs of fat and gain 5 lbs muscle which will put my wieght to 150 lbs or so...from where i'll start the bulking.

Now for the plan...my gym is about 5 miles away and since i dont have a car at college i'll probably be riding my bike to get there, which may not be a bad thing since it will give me the cardio i need. The only question is will it be too much?

My schedule will be something like this:

M,W,F- Ride bike (about 40 mins to get to gym), Weight train about an Hour, and ride back (another 40 mins). This is going to be the first thing i do in the morning.

On the other 2 days I may ride my bike for an Hour to get my cardio workout done.

What do u guys think about this? Is this a good idea or should i do something different? Any suggestions will be very helpful and much appreciated.
 
if you train first thing in the morning with 80 mins of cardio around it on an empty stomach, you'll be burning as much muscle as fat.

also, its damn near impossible to burn fat and gain muscle, so I wouldn't hold out for gaining 5lbs of meat while dropping 15lbs of fat.
 
All i can say is you will be pretty tired coming back after your workout. Good luck.

well as of right now, thts the only choice i have, will try it for a month or so and see how it works for me...i was thinking of having an energy drink before i leave for gym, something like red bull only on the weight training days. Is that advisable? or should i look into an alternative?
 
Ok so i have reached a conclusion, since i have around 20-23% BF, i'll start with cutting phase till i get down to around 12%.
If im weight training during the cutting phase, will it atleast maintain my muscles mass or can i still lose muscle due to the 80min biking even if im taking a high protien diet?
Also, if i cud get someone to answer my previous question...is having a redbull before working out a good idea?
 
I have a question.... It takes you 40 minutes to ride 5 miles? At an average speed of 12 mph, which is not unreasonable, it should only take about 25 minutes. Unless you're riding uphill both ways... :D

lol i didnt really get all technical but im gonna get back to u on tht on tuesday...i havent rode my bike there yet, i was assuming it'll take me 40 mins, since it takes around 10-15 mins through car.
if it really does take me only around 30 mins, then problem solved, i can handle that lol
