weight train without gaining

what type of excercises do i do for losing weight, but also gaining muscle, i need to lose 20 lbs, mostly in my stomach and legs, but i need to know some good weight training exercises to help me out, maybe a mix of weights and cardio would work? but i don't know any weight training excercises i could do without having to spend alot of money on equiptment! :p
 
for me, the best thing I did was join a Gold's Gym (or any decent gym in your area). When I go to the gym, I'm surrounded by people all with the same basic goal as myself, and it motivates me.
many gyms will give you a free session or discount for an hour with a trainer, who can show you all the core exercises a novice should focus on.
