Salad? Sounds like a great idea :D
I just had one, actually. I was still hungry after my "breakfast", so I waited awhile, then made up a nice Salad with honey mustard dressing, a can of salmon, and some really pleasant seasonings sprinkled over (a little dried basil and some parsley, then a dash of garlic salt. Tasty...).

I figure there's no sense in eating it if it doesn't taste good, right?

Oh how I wish I owned my own house or rented one. Imagine all the calories I could burn off if I could shovel my driveway or the sidewalk? *Sigh* Someday.

Still planning on going to the gym today but if the roads are as bad as I'm thinking.... I might resort to my walking/running dvd that I did last winter. Hmm. Maybe I'll call and see if it's even open. I'm hoping it is.

Everyone... Stay safe and keep warm!

Ps. If anyone knows how to post tickers and pictures... PLEASE let me know. I can't seem to figure it out :) Thanks!

For a ticker, go to one of the ticker creater places, such as Tickerfactory.com and create your ticker. Once it's created, it's going to give you BBC Code. Copy that. Come back here and at the top of your window should be a link that says "User CP". You'll paste the code you copied before into your signature. It should work from there.

It's Sunday

Not a bad way to start... except we missed church. Ended up forgetting to set the alarm so we woke up right when it was starting. Would have gotten there too late so we went to the gym. Our workout didn't last as long as I'd have liked but it was okay. We did 15 on the bikes, 20 on the treadmill and 20 on the eliptical. It felt good.

My fiancee was talking about going out for lunch but on the way home I convinced him into having a boca burger and a salad. Yum.

Picking up some hand weights at walmart today. Need to start doing something to my arms and not sure what to do. Got a couple of good starting points but hopefully I'll find something soon.

Mmmm burnt burgers! Later Days! :p

With hand weights I like to do a simple rhythm exercise, it involves holding the weight at your side, about hip level, and then making a smooth, relatively slow "punching motion" and alternating arms in a nice rhythm. You don't want any "snap" to it, just a nice smooth "punch and return" motion going from Hip to arm extended at shoulder height. You'll find it works your arms and your core muscles, especially if you drift your "target" slowly over to the other side of your body. Be VERY careful to pay attention to your shoulders and back, and make sure to keep you butt tucked in, your shoulder blades flat, and your posture good, it counts here. Feet should be about shoulder width apart, but make sure you are comfortable.
You should be able to feel it when you have the motion right, and I use either 3 or 5 pound weights to add some resistance, and go for extended periods of several minutes, but it takes time to build up to that, when I started, I was lucky to go 30 seconds at a time.

As always, if it doesn't feel good, don't do it. :D

Aiiiiiiieeeeeeee

Thanks QJay! I love the sound of that exercize! Sounds simple yet that it works the arms.

I bought two hand weights at 8lbs. A little heavy but I didn't want to get the 3lbers and be used to them in like... a week. They are EXPENSIVE!

I am proud of me today. My fiancee wanted to go to Chinese for dinner and I told him no. He was kind of mad at me but I said "We gotta stop eating out so much and start eating at home." Sooo... we came home. WOOHOO for willpower! :D

Good for you for ditching Chinese food!!

Small hurdles over time make AlL the difference :)

You'll feel that exercise in more than your arms, I promise ;)
Good job on passing up the dinner out. It's possible to eat healthy food out on the town, but it isn't easy, and it all SMELLS so good, and it's so easy to order a cheat.
Keep up the good care and hard work!

So Frustrated!

I can feel myself slipping. I try so hard to not eat so much and yet... I eat more than I ever intended. I'm getting really irritated.

We went out for dinner. My finacee was just promoted and wanted to celebrate. How could I deny him that right? We went to a little italian place. I had water and baked fish. With french fries (Maybe like 5), a salad with italian dressing, bread and a slice of cheesecake. Not too bad but not that great. Yet... I feel like a messy heffalumper :(

I need a challenge. I need something to keep me going and force me to not eat as much until I get into the habit. I need someone to challenge me to not eat anything but fruits and veggies for a week... or something. Anything.

I just know I need help :(

It doesn't sound like a bad meal, unless you went nuts with the salad dressing or had a huge slice of cheesecake.

In restaurants, I try to split desserts with whoever I am with, if we have to have them. Even then, I know it's a bad idea. :p

I'm not sure that going vegan for a week would be good for you, but if you were to eat a cup of veggies (not salad, I mean veggies like broccoli, green beans, cauliflower, carrots, etc) as the first part of every meal, you might find yourself eating less of the bad stuff. I love frozen veggie blends, and they are pretty easy to turn out for food, only need a few minutes in the microwave, and if you want to add a splash of flavor, melt some butter over them and pour off the butery water before you eat the veggies. Consider it about 1/4 to 1/2 the amount of butter used, and just accept that you are "wasting" some of the precious golden flavor. ;)

It's important to eat plenty of good, healthy food when you are trying to lose weight, restricting your calories too much is a bad thing. Just remember to try to eat "good" foods and watch your fat/processed carb intake, but don't let yourself feel hungry for hours or anything like that!

After sitting here since 6am and having nothing better to do than play online games and watch the price is right, I got to really thinking about my weight and my calorie intake. I tried counting calories a while ago but found it tedious and annoying. Considering how badly I've been doing lately, maybe it's a good idea to start up for now. At least until I get back under control!

I found this really cool calculator on Download.com. You put in your weight, height, sex, age and the likes and then it produces your BMI and target rate and how many calories you need to eat and burn off. It's a handy little thing. In order to lose this weight (By losing a pound a week) I would have to burn off 500 calories... DAILY. I'm sure I could do it but after working 10 hours with toddlers... I'm exhausted. I messed with the calculator (You can switch calories between what you take in and lose) and figure if I eat like... 2,387 calories a day, I only have to burn off 250 a day. That, I figured, is a little more reasonable.

Granted there will be days that I will stray off the path. Where those sweets in the staff room will but just way too tasty to pass up... but I guess I'm kind of in a stage of trying things and seeing what does and does not work. I'm sure when I'm at work if I run with the kids I can easily burn off calories.

I'm really going to try eating less meat. Maybe not cutting it out completely... but just not eating as much. I'm a bacon hound. Maybe if I start taking some Special K cereal to work (Or even having breakfast BEFORE work) I might not be so hungry by the time AM snack rears it's ugly head. I used to carry a toothbrush with me at work so after lunch I could brush my teeth. That worked a little bit.

This is a project that's going to take a while (Seeing as how I didn't get this big overnight... Obviously)... but I need to start making sacrifices. Even if it's maybe eating fruit for breakfast or having cereal for lunch and a salad for dinner. Someday I'll figure this out.

I started working with dumbbells this morning. I found this exercize where you lie on your back, hold your arms out and then bend them till the weight almost touches the floor by your head. I did that 10x10. Halfway through I extended both arms (One with the weight and one without) and did the motion. It felt REALLY good. Then I did the boxing move with the weights for one minute (Even bouncing and working my thighs) and I was surprised that I could go that long and probably even longer. I just didn't want to overdo it.

Going to the Gym in a couple hours. Can't wait!

The salad wasn't bad. It was mostly lettuce with some salami (I think) and some kind of cheese and olives. There was a lot of dressing but it was Italian and it was really super tangy... so I kind of tapped the forkful's against the side of the bowl to get the excess off. The slice of cheesecake, delicious as it was, was actually pretty small. I guess that's what you get for ordering a house dessert! Hehe

Well... I have totally blown it.

Wednesday: Had Olive Garden. Pigged out on salad (not too bad) but then ate almost an entire plate of chicken and pasta (I was hungry :( ) and then had dessert... which I couldn't finish.
Thursday: Had pizza hut for dinner.
Friday: Went to Outback for dinner. Had a steak (Ate a little less that half) and had some bread and a baked tater. Not too bad but not great.

Really craving soda. I mean... REALLY craving soda. I know it's just the sugar or something that I'm needing right now but I'm hanging in there. It's been almost a month... so... something is going well.

We bought a scale yesterday. It's pretty nice... weight watchers. I got a different reading on it than I have on the one at the gym. Very strange... makes me wonder what I really was at... but now I know. It's at 324. It's not great but I thought it was MUCH higher. Just gives me a new goal to work on.

Sooo... Goals for February:
Less Ice Cream... More Popsicles. They're only 23 calories a stick!
No more eating out!
Still... No more soda.
Going to the gym three to four times a week.
Drop to 200 lbs by the end o February.

Hope those are reasonable.

Good Morning :)

Good for you for setting a monthly set of goals - there for awhile, I was doing that for daily (especially when I gave up soda), then weekly!

Having a plan is a huge factor in whether you meet those goals!

Looking at how often you go out to eat, is saying "No more eating out", a real possiblity? It might be good to have a plan in place for each restaraunt - knowing in advance what you can have within your calorie range, etc.

Also - just a quick clarification - your new scale said 324 and your goal said to drop to 200 by end of Feb, do you mean drop into the 2's?

124 pounds in a month...might be a bit tough ;)

Hope you're weekend is going well,

You're right. That was a typo. That's what happens when I multi-task.. LOL! I meant 300. I don't even want to know how you'd lose 124 a month... although it would be nice.

Thanks for pointing that out :)

OK - but 24 pounds is still a lot for one month!

Hmmm...I think it would be something like amputation...of a couple of limbs!
Not good! ;)

I did not so bad today. I had a bowl of HN Cheerios this morning. I had a small bit of fish and a handful of potatos. For snack I had a handful of animal crackers and for dinner a bacon-boca-burger. Yum

I'm kind of annoyed cause I have to go get a physical for my volunteer work. Unfortunately, the doctor is a complete ass. All he does is try to put me on weight loss pills. I can't stand him. I don't want to depend on weight loss pills. I want to be able to feel good about losing this weight.

UGH.

In other, happy news, I've adopted an 18 year old kitty named Felicity. we're supposed to pick her up on wednesday and I'm soooooo excited! My little baby!

Man, doctors out here won't put me on weight loss pills for ANY reason. I would love to have that sort of "assist" available to help me get started the right way.

Your bad days don't look that bad, to me, but then again, I used to go through a couple of those big olive garden salads by myself as a warmup to the unlimited angel-hair alfredo bowl... And yes, I would go through a few of those, too. Pref with sausages...

One thing I will say; Pizza isn't bad, and even eating a lot of it isn't bad, as long as you stay away from the pan crust. I used to make their dough, and there is only one pizza with more fat in crust than pizza hut pan, and that is Papa John's. Papa John's crust mix is approximately 5% oil or shortening!!! The Pizza hut pan didn't even get there with all of the oil they cook it in!

Anyhoo, try the thin crusts :D That way if you have a few slices, you don't have nearly as much bad stuff in it; especially if you get a lot of veggie toppings, too.
