Brawny, Brawny, Brawny!! So glad you are back! We missed you over the summer! Fill us in...and don't worry about the slacker-dom...whatever you did or did not do is in the past...look the future big guy and lets keep it going together!

Sarah

Good to see you back brawnster and like Sarah mentioned, all that matters is that you are back with us again.

I seem to have done something to my knee over the past couple weeks... might have been during one of those long runs I did so have been taking it easy and trying to recover. Could barely walk over the weekend but seem to be coming around again this week. Going to have to watch the food intake now that I'm exercise restricted for a few weeks.

I picked up a new chainsaw over the weekend which is a major upgrade. Got tired of fighting with big trees with an underpowered chainsaw so had to upgrade to something more suited for the size of trees I'm dealing with. It's great exercise and now that the weather is cooling off, it's time to make sure I have enough firewood on hand for the cold winter months ahead.

Updated front page again. Too much bouncing around and getting tired of the wild swings in the body fat percentages.

Need more weight training and need to tighten up the diet. Time for some new monthly challenges before this gets out of hand.

Yeah, have only run one tank of gas through the chainsaw so far but it seems so much easier to junk up those trees. The new chain and the extra power sure do help.

Knee pain was so bad over the weekend that I actually went to see a doctor to make sure it wasn't too serious. He seemed to think I may have done something with a ligament and told me to take a few advil and go easy on the training for a while which I definitely will. Thinking another week of rest and then start easing back into some biking and low impact stuff.

sure is nice to sweat and get your work done at the same time... enjoy your chainsaw

Nagging injuries can really de-rail a program. I have been on a good roll and really getting my exercise up only to get hit with a pull or a foot issue and it messed me up. Take it easy. If it is gonna be a while you might look for a pool.

Thanks Rainy/Brawny,

It has been nice to spend the time outside and get fresh air and a workout at the same time. There were a few times I thought of going for a long bike ride but couldn't get past the fact that cutting/splitting/stacking wood is a great workout and at the end there's something to show for it.

I spent a bit of time in our small pool during the summer and also did a few indoor sessions earlier in the year and kind of enjoyed it other than staring a black line, getting annoyed by the speed of the other swimmers (I was either too slow for the fast lane or too fast for the slow lane) Now that the weather's been getting chilly I winterized or small pool last night. Think the stationary bike in front of the TV downstairs is going to be the main cardio for a while once my knee is up to it.

Spitting wood for me is theraputic. (did I spell that right?) I use a heavy splitting axe and really work up a heart rate. And its like violent and productive at the same time...I guess its a guy thing>

I used to be a lifeguard back in college and early coaching days and did quite a bit of swimming. It was a great workout and worked well when I was not able to run (yes I ran in those days) but it had a fatal flaw....I always got out of the pool very very hungry! I think it was because I didnt get as hot as when I run or bike....Getting hot and sweaty kind of surpresses appetite for me but I always got out of the pool wanting a pizza!

Happy biking my friend.

Yep, wood splitting is a fun activity although I find that I have to be careful with some pieces that are particularly knotty/curved.

Warms you up more times that I care to count from the time it's a tree to the time it actually goes into the fireplace.

Exercise bike is about to come out of retirement at my house and will see how the knee feels afterwards. Then it'll be time to set some distance goals for the weeks/months ahead

AHey feelinggooder, looking forward to hearing about your mega bicycle trips and you batten down the winterized stuff! I'm betting that if you did some more Burmese and other torcherous things, you would kick start some more body fat loss(she says as she sits in her recliner!)

Big time slacker weekend. Got outside for exercise cutting and clearing wood but overdid it on the snacking and beverages.

Knee issue is really starting to annoy me.

:banghead:

It feels fine 98% of the time but when the knee is fully bent and I put any pressure on the front of it I am treated to a sharp stabbing pain. Injuries suck...

Dr Brawny steps into the thread wearing a lab coat and has a stethascope he stole from the school nurse:

You said:

Dr Brawny's prescrition:

Don't bend it fully

I know I know, you didnt need a smart alec comment on a monday but I couldnt resist.

Lol, you know the doctor didn't find that joke funny when I mentioned it to him last week either...

His sage words of advice: take a break from training and take a few advil for the swelling....

Thanks... never would have thought of that one doc...

yep

And I bet he required handsome payment for his sage advice.

Fight through it buddy

Might have to really watch your diet during this time of curtailed activity

AHey feeling gooder, listen to your body man...take a break from all this manly wood cutting etc, and let your body heal...it's trying to tell you something! Of course that means laying off the beverages too for just. A few days! Here's hoping you feel better soon!

Sarah

Thanks Brawny/Sarah...

Have been feeling gooder again the past couple days and have come to a few useful decisions:

I need to focus on activities I can complete rather than the ones that rely upon the injured knee:

- Still have two good arms and a good strong right leg that can be exercised

Time to take a break from the excessive food and drink over the weekends and throughout the week

On a positive note, after two days of eating clean and restricting exercise to let the knee rest, the weekend pounds seem to be falling away rather quickly. Would be pleased as punch if I can maintain this mornings weight through to Sunday morning.
