Weight Loss Journey for Feeling Gooder

Thanks Sarah and Trusylver,

Moving the body fat measurements back to every two weeks probably a good idea. Still using the cheap bathroom scale and trying to control as many variables as I can but the sweat factor doesn't help. Overall I think it's fairly accurate or at least allowing me to track major changes in body composition. It's been fairly stagnant lately but that is linked to the lack of work I've been putting in.

Great suggestions on limiting the focus of the triathlon training. I am focusing on the running since it's my weakest of the three sports and am supplementing the running with cycling on recovery days. Also need to fit in weight lifting at least a couple days a week.

AHey feelinggooder, good to know you are doing well! I'm having strange thoughts as I get ready to type this... But I actually wish I had a triathlon I could sign up for and practice for here in China! There I said it!! I really don't want to run outside here though, and I can't swim worth a flip (although the hotel where I live does have an indoor pool, so I really have no excuse there!) and riding a bike on the streets here is taking your life in your hands!...living in a 2nd tier city (still populous, but not very civilized) here does not do well for living a western style life.if I lived in Beijing or Shanghai I could probably do it, but Shenyang...don't think so! I really like the structure that a goal puts to the exercise program though...even with my little pushup challenge, it gave me something I knew I had to do! Didn't mean to hijack your thread here!

You continue to be a source of inspiration and I really appreciate you! One of these days, hopefully Brawny and old school will come back! We can show off!

Take care and train well my friend!

Sarah

Time for a refocus... between vacation, heat and humidity outside and a general lack of focus/motivation been bouncing around and actually gaining weight again.

Plan is to scale back the cardio to light cycling or walking and get some weight training in.

Goals for the week:

Start a 12 week exercise program and complete 3 days of strength training

Prep meals in advance

Curb snacking in the evening

Day 1/3 of strength training done. Starting off with slightly lower weights for some exercises to ease back in and even did a few pushups yesterday

Having meals prepped ahead of time is really helping

Hey Feelinggooder,

Where are ya buddy?! I miss your posts and now especially when I see you were "bouncing around", I just wanted you to know we're here for ya! It's summertime and easy to "take vacation" from eating right too...1 meal or even 1 day "vacation" feels so good...1 week can be dangerous...1 month...well, we all know that story...so come on back and stay with us...we need ya!

Sarah

Hey Sarah,

Thanks for popping by and nudging me to get back here. Currently only 0.4 lbs off my lightest weight so might be time to target another 10 lbs and set a few more exercise goals.

Still watching the meals and getting out for exercise a few times a week but haven't been as hard core as I was in late spring.

AGood to see you back and confirm you are maintaining!!! fat2fit done right!! You are awesome! Keep up the good work!!

lol, thanks Sarah and John...

think I'm going to shoot to get down to 215lbs as my next goal. Having a hard time letting go of these high 220s, every time I get close lately I find myself slacking off.

Getting set for another weekend. Been noticing that I drop a few pounds from Tues-Fri and then put it back on over the weekend which is a sketchy way to maintain weight methinks. I have to start being more active over the weekend since when I find myself sitting around, boredom leads to snacking....

Weight ticked back up last week but body fat dropped. Been holding within 5 lbs of this weight for months.

Funny - my weekends, in spite of having more calories in, are much more active. Might I recommend home ownership? You can try such fun things as splitting wood, mowing the lawn, even picking up fallen sticks for 2 hours will burn calories! Failing that, swing on by my house...

Seriously, though, have you looked into something like hiking or bicycling? Something a little lower-paced than running, but it beats watching TV if you're trying to avoid the boredom snacks.

Funny you should mention home ownership... Been getting a lot of wood cutting/chopping and clearing down for the past few months. Still fighting the tendency to overdo the eating and wash it down with an ice cold beer after I spend a couple hours outside clearing land.

Main problem remains not training for anything specific and being mostly happy with my current weight. Definitely going for a run today and planning to go for a long bike ride on Saturday to make this a positive weekend on the weightloss front.

AHey feeling gooder, good to see you again! Sounds like you need to sign up for another race, or triathlon to keep you motivated! I've got my first 5k on 1 Sep...in large part thanks to you...and a few others on this forum like katehunybun...you gave me the courage to run again..And then gt started doing pushups! I can do 40 now!...still havnt had the courage to do the burped things! Just wanted to say thanks for continuing to help me!

Sarah

Thanks for dropping by Sarah,

Think the entire forum is all about feeding off each other for motivation and I know I've taken my fair share of motivation from you along the way as well. If you're all caught up on the fat2fit podcasts you should start listening to The Extra Mile podcast now that you're getting back into running. Went for a run yesterday and decided to give the Galloway method a try (it's all about inserting walk breaks into the run) and I must say it really seems to work. Definitely think I could use it to finish a half marathon (did about 8 miles yesterday with very little problem)

Thought I had found a half marathon for end of September but it's already sold out. Will have to keep looking I suppose.

Hey feeling gooder...I'll look that podcast up...you've been a great source for me and turned me onto podcasts! I can tell you I did the Galloway method back in 1999...and it worked! I did the walk breaks and ran/walked the Paris Marathon in 4h33 minutes...first (and last...up to now) that I've ever done. I was sore afterwards, but I did go back to work on Tuesday. It was really alot of time spent on those long runs, but it's also one of the things I treasure most about living in France...those long runs along the canals in the Burgundy region of France...I have vivid picture postcard images that come to mind even now as I write this...I'm hoping I'll have the same thing when I do the long practice runs getting ready for the Wall!

Keep up the good work my friend!

Sarah

Hey Sarah, the Great Wall marathon sounds like it'll be very memorable event and I can't wait to read how the training goes.

Slightly overdid it with the long run last week as I ended up a little sore and received a blister for my efforts that's kind of annoying. Picked up a new pair of running shoes this past weekend and planning a shorter run today to try them out.

Putting in a good week on the eating and exercise front. Would have liked to get a bike ride in but will settle for what I've been able to fit in.

Got out for a 1.5 hour run/walk going at 4 minutes run 1 minute walk and repeat. The one thing I noticed after the fact is that my heart rate and cardio held up for the entire run but unfortunately this seemed to have resulted in me doing a number on my quad muscles. Covered 9 miles during the run and spent the next day and a half hobbling around a bit but feeling gooder once again...

Hope everyone's enjoying their week

Hey feelinggooder,

Sounds like you might have over done it a little...be careful and take those breaks! Sounds like you are following the Galloway program of run/walks. I did download the extra mile podcasts by the way...havn't listened to them yet, I still have a few more fat2fits to listen to, then I'll be ready for a change.

You continue to inspire me! Thank you and keep up the good work!

Sarah

Recovered from the long run and got a lot of exercise in over the weekend clearing trees on the property.

Hit a new low for the weekly weigh in but watched the body fat percentage tick up a notch. Surprising how much it varies from week to week and even hour to hour as it had dropped an additional half percent twenty minutes after waking up.

Back to walking instead of running this week as my knee seems to be a little sore. Not sure if it was the long run or the brush clearing that caused the soreness but going to give it a bit of time to heal. Still doing well with the eating and staying active.

Hope everyone's doing well
