Weight gain

so before I went on a bulking diet I talked to a personal trainer and he took my bmi and told me that my basal calorie intake was around 3500 so I started eating about 4000 calories a day for about a week now, before I was eating about 2800-3000. I've gained 6lbs in just a week and I got my body fat% tested again and it didnt change at all so that was good, but I'm worried about gaining all that weight that fast I know your only suppose to gain or lose only 2lbs max week. I really felt it when I ran today. all the weight gain went straight to my shoulders and upper chest. Is that quick of a weight gain just something you start out with and it will level off or am I doin something wrong heres what I typically ate in a day
9:00 - 2 servings oatmeal/ protein bar
11:00- high fiber breakfast bar
12:00-2 servings whole wheat pasta w/ red sauce, sugar fat free pudding
2:00- 2 servings peanut butter w/ pretzels
4:00- 2 whole wheat bagels w/ hummus or nonfat cream cheese
6:00- an apple/banana, and veggies
workout
8:30- protein shake, omlette(egg beaters and low fat cheese), either pinto beans or yams, couple of oatmeal cookies or something.

Before you gained this 6 lbs in only 1 week ..........

- what was your body fat % a week ago ?

- how much did you weigh a week ago ?

- how often a week to you weight train ?

- how often a week do you do cardio ?

- how often a week do you play sports ?

sorry, my bf% was 11 and I was previously tryin to cut down but switched over a week ago. I weighed about 178 but before I ran today I weighed 184.5. The scale I weigh myself is highly accurate with 95% confidence intervals and I weighed myself the same time previously a week ago. here's what my week looks like
Mon- intense cardio 8 miles 45min a little under 6min/mile, abs
Tues- triceps/biceps, planks for the lower back
Wed- fitness class (called bootcamp, you pretty much do everything cardio, all sorts of lifting
Thurs- intense cardio abs and lower back same as mon
Friday- 30 min walking high incline slow speed, lifting shoulders, back and chest
Sat- interval training lower body incorporated, triceps/biceps
Sun- stair stepper 30 min, lifting shoulders, back and chest, more emphasis on the back though
I had previously had trouble coming up with my maintenance level I took several online things some telling me 4000 cal and some saying 3000 calories so I kind of didnt know what to do but I was eating around 2800-3000

i would say dont stress it it looks like mostly water retention/glycogen storage. looking at your diet it doesnt seem like you could of gained 6 pounds.

also, it doesnt look like you are getting near enough protein, but the cals look right, im 178 and am eating in between 3600-3800.

Yeah don't worry, i gained a pound in a half in one day, but that's because i take creatine and i drank a gallon and a half of water and ate 4000 calories, and i only weigh 148. It happens. Especially if you're just starting out bulking.

Don't worry about it mate. The same thing happen to me. You will eventually level out when your body gets used to the increase in calories. Just make sure you arent gaining 6 pounds consistantly a week!

What are you doing to calculate your BF%?

Please do not say 'scales'...

If so, they are wrong and you put fat on.

3kgs in 7 days is a fair effort and it can happen but for a fella already at 11% and 180lbs, I dunno - it doesnt sound right to me.

I just have an inkling your BF is wrong.

no, the bf% was done with calipers but that might actually have been an overstatement because about 2 years ago I lost about 100lbs so I have a little bit of excess skin. Another question regarding the protein, my goal for protein intake is about 160g a day according to my dietician, with certain amino acids I know you can increase certain absorption but you can't change your plasma clearance rate or glomerular filtration rate w/o diuretics (like green tea) but even thats minor, so I thought thats about all my body could handle, Unless you know of some trick that I dont know about? I also have a question about bfr or maintenance level, well I guess I just wanna make sure I have it right so if anyone knows a for sure way to calculate that let me know. Thanks

Well thats good news for you then. I'd love to be able to gain 6lbs in week hehehe. You have done good!

And all that nutrition talk just got me confused hehehe.

Just eat and lift big :)

Bodybuilding doesnt have to be so complicate. Eat Eat Eat Eat, Lift, Eat Eat, Sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep

Thats my forumula :)

if you have truly gained 6 pounds in one week, rest assured that only .5lb of that was muscle. Try and keep your gain at max 1lb per week. If not, then you'll be cutting sooner that you think.
