Weigh Yourself Everyday Club

I just pulled up my old weight logs from 2013. I had outpatient hernia repair surgery on 9/6/2013. Weighed in at 185.1 that morning. Didn't eat a thing all day on the 6th due to surgery/recovery, weighed 191.7 (+6.6 lbs) the next morning. Pretty crazy, that.
Yep, its post surgical edema, a fancy word for swelling. Water weight. I went up over 10 lbs after hernia surgery and it took 6+ weeks to all go away.

Ben, you have really been doing well, into the 170s!
Well done on getting through your surgery.
Wishing you a speedy recovery Rob
Thanks Tyke, its a process...

How are you doing? I don't remember your goal, are you getting close? Or more to go?
Down -.7. Diet good. Lots of exercise. Still up 1.5 lbs from lowest
Hey Tom, good to see you still here fighting the fight. Your lowest is lower than I remembered. Good for you!

No scale today, so no weight. Probably won't happen much whist in rehab.

Congrats! Yes I think you can now say you're under 180 permanently :D way to go Ben!
I do believe so. Small drop again today. Yay!
Ben, you have really been doing well, into the 170s!
Thanks!

Yup. Small drop today. Interesting week. It's technically a "recovery" week with my running, where I reduce mileage by about 20%, so I would have expected a slowing of the loss or even a small increase on the scale. Instead, I'm now down 3.11 since Monday. Go figure. Now, granted, maybe I'm working a little harder in the gym and/or maybe because I'm running less, I'm unconsciously moving more, walking the dog a little longer, etc. Or maybe it'll go back up in the next few days as randomly as it has gone down. 🤪

Surgery break
10/5 - 177 lbs - post-op weigh in at Rehab
10/6 - 174 lbs, subtracting my new bionic knees I think I am pretty close to pre-op weight. The scale I have found is for weighing people in wheel chairs, but I figured how to zero it. So accuracy maybe limited, best I have till I get home.

Thanks Tyke, its a process...

i'm doing ok thx. Weight loss is slower than it was, i'm not quite as disciplined as i was in the 1st 3 or 4 months. But i'm still getting there.
My goal is 200 lbs (i was 300 in april) by Christmas, then i'll re-evaluate then. In an ideal world i'd like to be about 168.

Up a bit today. An increase at some point seemed inevitable given the unexpected three consecutive mornings with drops totaling over 3 pounds during a week when I'm exercising a bit less.

That makes sense, sounds like a good plan. And Hey, there ain't no "ideal world" not that I've seen yet anyway. So long as we do the best we can its good enough, all it needs to be.
Up a bit today
Not much... I think a lot of us tend to lose weight in spurts with some rebound. Just minor variability, not fat gain.

Ran harder than usual on my long run yesterday, and I suspect I have a bit of inflammation from that, as nutrition has been on schedule. (Also eating a bit more carbs near the end of the week to help fuel long run, so could be some water weight to go along with the glycogen increase from that.)

10/09/22 242.7

I didn't want to go off the deep end without at least one more post to let you know what is going on. I have only lost 1 pound in the past month. This is what happened the last time. I went from 268.8 to 245 and then stayed at 245 for 5 months before I gave up. This time I went from 260 to 242 and hovering right there. I have been averaging 1500 calories a day. This week out of frustration and to try and kick start the weight loss I bumped up to 1950 a day. I still have 75 pounds to lose. No way I should hit a plateau already. I exercise about 1 hour a day. It is all cardio though. It is a lot cooler so I am not sweating as much. I retain water. But I am supposed to be losing 2 lbs a week which means I would be retaining at the same rate. Makes no sense. I am going to try a couple more things. My sister bought us a sauna suit to wear to hoping get us sweating a little. And I am going to try and build some muscle but have to watch out for my hernia.

At any rate, I am just discouraged. I am so close to 230s and that would give me extra motivation since I haven't been there in a super long time but nope I am not allowed to have that. Makes no sense. It would be diff if I was like 210s but this close to the start doesn't make sense.

Surgery break

10/6 - 174 lbs
10/7 - 175 lbs
10/8 - 173 lbs - Rehab wheelchair scale.
10/8 - 175 lbs - home scale
10/9 - 173 lbs

Looks like home scale and rehab scale more or less agreed. If I subtract out the ~3 lbs of parts they put into my knees I am at or below pre-op weight. Happy about that.

Don't think I have or had a lot of edema weight, the swelling has been surprisingly limited. Very little right now, and not really a lot from day 1. I guess that's a good thing.
No way I should hit a plateau already
Everybody hits plateaus, and they can strike at any time regardless of your eating or exercise. Its mostly water, has to be. Basic thermodynamics if you are eating fewer calories than you burn you are losing fat. Your body has to find those calories somewhere. Problem is in the shorter term that does not always translate into pounds lost, you have water weight and solids in your digestive system weight. The weight you see on the scales counts all of that weight. I am not telling you anything you don't know, but sometimes hearing it from another helps. Don't get discouraged, you are doing great!

You are doing great Ben, and I am impressed at your understanding of your body and what it does that effects your weight. Keep up the good work!

Good to see you posting!

@whispers65 :iagree: with Rob, Tom. Persevere. I know it's hard but keep trying. I hold water weight too with inflammation & it is incredibly frustrating. We mustn't give up :grouphug:

Cate is right, of course, and water weight isn't bad for you, not like fat. Hang in there and I know the scales will drop, just don't know when.

What's your target weight? Will you go into maintainenace mode?
I know if it were me i'd really struggle to diet if i'd been through what you've just been through.
Hey Tyle, don't really have a goal weight, but I would like to be in the 160s. I have been in maintenance mode for almost 2 years, such as it is for a while. And as you say I have struggled to diet since my original weight loss. Its an unending battle, but better than the alternative.

Have you thought about your ultimate goal? I know you are trying to get to 200 by Christmas. When you get there what would be next for you?
