Wearing a Sports bra and Shorts to Run for the first time ever!

Taking everyone's comments into account in reference to my current body weight and lack of self confidence, I decided to push myself to run in just a sports bra and shorts today! It was liberating! Sure I got some nasty stares from the skinny girls who were also running lol but the air felt so good on my bare skin and I didn't care!

I know I'm still carrying around some extra weight, but do you guys think it was right for me to run like this? Or should I have waited until I reached my goal weight to do so?

The pictures of me that I have attached are of me before my run outside, from the front and side. The last is me inside after my run a bit tired and sweaty looking lol I apologize for my appearance!

Just in case you haven't followed my other posts, I started out at 250 pounds and am currently 158! I was 160 at the beginning of this week, but I finally dropped below! What an awesome feeling :) My goal weight has been modified, after reading the feedback I have gotten from others on this forum, to 140.

I appreciate your continued support and feedback! I want to thank everyone for keeping me on track!

Keep up the good work. You're doing great. In a little while you won't even notice what your wearing you'll just be working out.

Thank you! Your continued support means so much to me! With everyone behind me I feel like I can tackle anything :)

You got people looking at you? Your body just needs a little toning, but other than that I know girls who would love to look as good as you. Are you sure the nasty looks weren't because they wish they looked so good?

:iagree:

I dont think anybody was looking at you negatively...your mind just thought that. They probably were just lookin...maybe admiring you...checkin ya out! lol who knows.

You look great and the attire suits you perfectly! Well done!

Way to go, girl!!!
I recently did that, running in just a sports bra top, for the first time just a bit ago as well!
You look incredible- I'm sure that if anyone was staring at you, it was because they were checking you out, or wishing that they had the confidence to run without a shirt on as well. Really really. Maybe your stomach's not completely toned up, but it doesn't look like you've got actual weight to lose or anything!
Keep it up! :)

Thank you for your response! I was running outside and ran into many thinner girls who had flat tummies and thighs that didn't touch. These girls gave me the dirtiest looks I have ever seen! That's why I decided to post this thread to see whether or not I should run like that again. I didn't think it was inappropriate, but I feel like the girls I ran into did.

I'm trying to work on my self confidence so it was a big step for me to run like that today, where people could see me lol. I'm hoping it wasn't a mistake.

As for getting toned, I'm trying! lol I'm running about two miles a day and weight lifting for approximately an hour. Also I have an ab routine that I'm upping the intensity on :) I can't seem to shake that tummy! Do you think I should start running twice a day to get that more "toned" look?

And wow, I never thought that anyone would want to look like me! That's such a great compliment!

Thank you for your feedback and support I really appreciate it! I look forward to further comments from you.

You're probably right! Although the girls I ran into were so tiny, so I'm not sure lol I hope that they were admiring me, that would have made my day!

Thank you for your continued support! I was nervous about the running attire, so I really appreciate your feedback on that :)

It's scary isn't it! I was so self conscious the whole time lol and it's true that the thinner girls were wearing t-shirts or tank-tops, so perhaps the stares were because they didn't have the confidence to run without a t-shirt on, like you mentioned.

How did you feel the first time running in just a sports bra top?

I hope that as I continue my routine I'll be able to look more toned. It's really been a struggle for me not to look so soft! I always say I look like a marshmallow lol big, white and soft. Because of everyone's support I really think I'll get there! Thank you so much for your response, really, it's people like you who keep me motivated to succeed!

I don't know how much running would do to tone up your inner thigh and such. I have a vid from netflix that has 10 minute toning for all the body parts. Maybe you should try something like that. The thigh workout makes me sore in places that running doesn't. Plus the abbs workout is wonderful. I'm sure you could get something like it at walmart for 9 bucks. Just look where they have the workout stuff. That is were they keep all good workout vids in our walmart.

Damn! Who's that hottie in the sports bra and running shorts!?!? :drool5:

You look good Stefani, don't worry about what others think! I wouldn't mind seeing you out running at all! If you're comfortable with the runs this way, stick with it! :D

As far as more running give you that "toned" look. Well it's possible, the extra running will burn more calories...which will burn more fat causing your BF% to go down and appear more toned overall. :)

You look a lot cuter after your runs than I do. I look like a sweating hog while you look like a glistening princess! hehe Keep it up girl! :)

Oh, I was scared, too!! I did it at the gym, which may have been even worse than outside, since the same people were in there the whole time to watch me, lol. I kept looking in the mirror every five minutes like, "Do I still look okay? Didn't get fat again yet? Nope!" Haha.

The reason I brought up the whole confidence issue is that, that was me! I know I used to stare at girls in sports bra tops, kind of in wonderment, looking to see if I could compare enough to do it myself or something. xD

I bet that if you keep up what you're doing, you will tone up just by losing a bit more fat, as long as you keep up a moderate deficit, I think... I'm in the same boat as you here, really, so I don't know quite yet!

To quote the great Yogi Berra...

"Baseball is ninety percent mental and the other half is physical."

Weight loss is the same way. Get your head around the fact that the "new" you is the norm and get used to looking good. It is what it is.

I'm a middle aged guy with lots of mental scar tissue and I really dont give a rats ass what people think. It really hits home when I hear the anguish some of our younger board members are going through due to their weight.

WOW!! You have come sooo far! Congrats on your weight loss! You look awesome :) I myself just went for a run outside in a sports bra and shorts the other day... at first I was like, "EW my stomach is jiggly!" But then I stopped thinking like that and just enjoyed it and I felt great! High five!

Thank you for your response! I will definitely look into buying some workout videos like that. If it helps you it will definitely help me! I really appreciate you taking the time to help me out :) I need to really start focusing on my inner thighs and tummy. They're the softest areas left on me.

I look forward to your continued support on my weight loss journey!

lol ;) Thanks for calling me a hottie! Hopefully I'll get there someday in my own eyes as well.

At first I was a little self conscious on the run, but it felt so good to not have a shirt stifling me lol After a while I just didn't care anymore about my tummy being out there for everyone to see haha. I'll be running today without the shirt again if the weather permits!

What body fat percentage do you think that I would look my best at? I took my measurements with a tape measure the other day and plugged them into several different body fat percentage calculators. I'm not sure which one to go by! The one I put the most of my measurements into said that I have approximately 25 percent body fat.

lol I doubt you look that bad! I thought I was looking rather like a sweating hog myself haha instead of a glistening princess

Oh wow! That took a lot of guts! That's why I chose to run outside rather than at the gym haha. I'm hoping that by taking some of the suggestions that others have given me I'll be able to reach my ideal within the next couple months! I'm excited and hopefully it will all work out for the both of us :)

lol I'm definitely still working on the mental part of it, but you are definitely helping a bunch!

There is a terrible pressure nowadays to be thin, especially for young girls and women. Men, I'm sure, feel it as well! I definitely feel that pressure very strongly on a daily basis. My imperfections are pointed out to me every day through the media, whether it be on TV or in a magazine. I think that it's very difficult for anyone to develop a healthy sense of self in our society. We're all struggling to reach some unrealistic ideal and when we constantly fall short of perfection we hate ourselves.

Thank you for recognizing how far I've come! Sometimes I can't believe it myself lol

haha and I thought the same thing when I ran! I was like everyone is noticing my tummy! But it really feels good, especially when it's so hot out, to run in just shorts and a sports bra. Good for you for being able to do that! I was so scared haha. Was it really difficult for you too?

Stefani... You /are/ one of the skinny girls now! How does it feel? I can't WAIT to get there!!! Even if they really /were/ giving you nasty looks... They don't KNOW what you went through to achieve this. You do. Be proud of yourself, and next time someone gives you a nasty look, throw them back a smile!!
