Water?? Weight loss and goal

Hey all...I haven't been on in ages! I've been quite busy but I'm excited about being back.

Anyway, I'm back to working out... and I was told if you drink alot of water it can help in weight loss. Is this true? I mean..I know it can keep you trick your body into thinking its full if your belly is full of water....But I don't know about it helping burn calories? Anyone know? ...I've been drinking 8 pints a day...which equals a gallon. (yes, I know the other benefits of water) hehe

Also, I'm trying to lose about 15-20 lbs. by May 15. I'm 22 and 5'5... I weigh about 135/140 right now. Is this reasonable or am I trying for something that might be impossible? I'm not sure what my body fat percentage is at.

Right now I do 60 mins of cardio at least 4 times a week ...along with at least 20 mins of weight training each of those days. My diet mostly consists of eggs, oatmeal, grilled ckn salads, grapefruit, and for dinner normally ckn, salmon, or tilapia with mixed veges.

I've been doing this for about two months now... but I wasn't so strict and was much on some bad stuff... therefore hurting my diet. Any tips or suggestion that would help me out would be great... thx a bunch!

Water works best when it replaces sodas/sugary drinks. The less sugar you intake the better, so if you replace soda with water you will lose weight.

Also, if you cheat with your diet too often then your vigorous exercise routine will be cancelled out. Yes, you will have pounds of muscle on your body, but it will be covered up by the fat gained from sloppy eating.

Have a cheat meal once a week and that will be the time that you can eat whatever you want (in moderation of course) rather than cheating all through the week and not keeping track of the excess calories consumed. If you decide to have a sugary drink, limit it to one cup a day rather than having one with each meal.

The key to weight loss is keeping track of the calories that enter your body so that you aren't confused when it comes time to step on the scale. Weigh yourself every 2-3 weeks to make sure you are losing and not gaining.

**Oops. I just looked at your signature and it says that you are 5'5 and weigh 135. This seems to be a healthy weight. You probably shouldn't lose anymore. Just concentrate on maintaining and toning.

Huntington WV eh? Basketball state champs!

Only thing I see is the 60 min cardio, Have you tried replacing that with 20-30 min of HIIT? You could be like me and just love to run, if that is the case I understand.

I love to run as well, and I look forward to the days of long runs MUCH more than the HIIT days. :D But, I feel they are very important and their benefits can't be denied. All I had to do was read up on them and get started, and now they are a solid part of my weekly routine. Variation is nice too!

Thanks for your replys.

I have completely eliminated all drinks but water from my diet. But I do like those lil flavor packets you can put in water. They are only like 5 cals and they keep my drinking the water instead of giving up bc its kinda something I can look forward to. Anything wrong with those?

In most cases they contain aspartame and other chemicals found in the drinks you are cutting out. I personally stay away from those chemicals, and stay away from the powders. If you need flavor, squeeze a lemon or orange in your water.

Stop taking aspartame immediately.

I personally wouldn't want to risk cancer by giving my water a little flavor, would you?

If you don't believe me I'll post a couple dozen links and studies your way.

Oh goodness... are you serious? Is there anything else like those little packets that don't contain aspartame? ... Also, is splenda bad for you? BC I put a lil in my oatmeal in the morning time. thx

Hi Aspartame sucks but -correct if me if I am wrong- Splenda is not that bad. About water and calories I have been told (although I am not completely sure this is true) that you lose weight drinking water because your body uses calories to warm up piss.....yep

Well, isn't that just the fun fact of the day :) Where did you hear that?

AmberJune, what are the little packets you are talking about? Like Crystal Light?

I've been drinking Aquafina Alive lately- it's flavored water with Vitamins, but it only has 10 calories. I get sick of drinking regular water ALL the time....has anyone heard about, or tried this before?

I believe there is a tiny amount of extra calories burned from drinking cold water, but the number is sooo tiny it isn't worth mentioning.

Water helps you to feel more full (therefore possibly eat a bit less). If it's replacing sugary drinks, then that's that many calories saved a day. It also helps to "flush" your system and helps in reducing fluid retention.
