Hi all! I'm not sure how much I weigh but I am a UK size 16 (US size 14) and I've been lurking on this site for quite a while now, checking out the before and after shots while yo yo dieting and sporadically hitting the gym...and doing a lot of comfort eating (hey! at least I'm honest!) I have the same story as alot of others on here, overweight since a young age, have tried various diets and end up losing weight then gaining then losing then gaining, self esteem shot to bits, teased at school, sick of my body, hate photos, have skinny relatives and friends that I feel even fatter around, wishing I could buy and wear just anything...and in between all that I have had 3 children. I too have heard all the "your face is so pretty but..." speeches and my wonderful husband loves my body regardless but I've been overweight since I was 11 y'know? And seeing as I am totally not getting any younger, I would like to see how good my body can look while I'm still young enough to enjoy it. Time for me to do something for ME instead of dedicating absolutely everything to my kids, hubby and home.

I've come to (finally) fully accept that it is a LIFESTYLE CHANGE that I need, not a diet, and I am aiming to get down to a UK size 10 (US size 8). I'm not too hung up on the figures on the scales, yes they are important, but I would rather gauge by how my body looks and what dress size I am. Don't get me wrong, if I'm happy and healthy at UK size 12 then that's cool. It takes alot of guts to post these up, but this is now the only way I know I will stick to it. I also have this post set as my homepage so everytime I sit at the computer, I remember not to spend all day surfing the web and eating chocolate and potato chips :blush5:

I will be posting up progress pics once a month (if I tried to wait until the journeys end to post these before pics, I would probably never change) and will update on my gym routine/diet etc. If there is anyone who would like to do this together, let me know and we can support each other Thanks for not judging me guys and well done to all those going through the same journey and those who have completed their journeys. See ya'll next month!

Peace, light and blessings

Hi Nesian! It's so great you decided to make the choice to post your story

I'm sure most of us can relate to one or more of your experiences. It's really tough growing up overweight :)

You sound very determined and that is excellent! You've got a great mindset and you're absolutely correct, it's a lifestyle change, not a diet!

I know how scary it can be posting your before shots, but eventually you'll find it to be such a powerful tool to keep you motivated

Having been a lurker myself before posting my own story/pics, you probably already know how supportive the members of this forum are, so you can also rely on everyone here to keep pushing you as you progress!

Have you thought about making a diary? I have one and I'd recommend it to anyone truly serious about starting a new lifestyle. It's great for accountability and just to blow off steam when times start to get stressful (which they do for everyone).

Looking forward to your updates and best of luck!

Thanks so much Frogged. Yeah I still cringe whenever I see my post, but at the same time I have this strange sense of pride that I have actually done it hahaha! It is beyond tough growing up overweight, especially once you hit those teen years, there's not much else that can destroy a child than bullying and name calling. Its horrible. And if I don't want my kids going through that, then I need to be the role model. Hey how do I start a diary? That is an excellent idea, I would love to do that and fill in after work outs, when I'm having one of THOSE days etc. I'm afraid the only parts of this website that I have been to is the before and afters :/

Yeah, I still cringe at my before shots as well, but I'm glad I posted them! Even though I wasn't brave enough to go without a shirt before, you can still get an idea of my size. I was wearing a 2x large shirt in my heaviest picture, and it was a really tight fit to say the least.

The great thing about keeping before pics is that they really remind you of the kind of life you don't want to fall back into. I'll never go back to being 350+, that's for sure!

Here's the link for the diary section: http://weight-loss.fitness.com/f/9/weight-loss-diary

Just fire up a new thread in there and voila, you got yourself a journal

It's also great that you're also doing it to be a role model for your kids! I have no doubt you'll make them proud!

Hi and welcome :)

Our body types are really similar, it was kind of weirding me out a bit to look at your pics because it felt strangely familiar! lol I'm a US size 14-12 right now and I would loooove to get down to an 8! Posting before pics and keeping them up on your computer is such a great idea, I couldn't bear to take pics like that when I first started, I just started taking them now that I have lost 50 or so pounds, I really wish I had sucked it up and taken some so that I could see how my body has changed. I hope you start a dairy, I just started one myself, it'd be great to cheer you on since we have similar goals :)
