VTMtnGirl's Diary

It's been a few weeks since I pulled the elliptical out from under the clutter on the porch & moved it to the living room. I've had enough of being grossly overweight and all the hurt feelings when people mention my *health*. So for the past few weeks, diet & exercise...starting weight 240 and now I'm down to 233 That's a good start! All done the healthy way without starving myself.

The difference between *starving* and depriving....

I've done starving diets before - keeping calories under 1000 a day. Shoot, I could lay in bed all day and burn 1000.... so I went into starvation mode and got stuck.

I spent time educating myself a few years ago and lost a bunch of weight, only to gain it back post-baby.

This time I'm just making an effort to track calories eaten vs. burned and so far have seen slow but steady progress. I don't feel starving, but there are goodies I *wish* I could go overboard on.... Each time I'm thinking of going overboard I envision the *new me* vs. the *old me* and say... "Just a few more hours til bedtime* Guzzle water or ginger ale and prepare to rest for the evening.

Wish me luck sticking with it and finding real progress! Just a few wks left before my next measuring. That should tell the tale.

as of today, I'm down 10 on the scale and lost 1/2 inch from waist and a little from arms and legs...

I'm up to an entire 20 min on cardio stuff which was torture just last week. lol

that's a great improvement fitness wise - well done...

and nice job on the scale movement as well but the fitness thing is worthy of a huge celebration :)

Thanks, I am trying to keep weight at the back of my mind. I know that as fitness level improves and diet is adjusted all will fall into place :)

One thing that helped, turning the sirius radio to octane and saying to myself "I'm staying on the elliptical for 4-5 songs" then every time a good song would come on it wouldn't even feel like work ;)

congratulations on the weight loss so far! I couldnt do any kind of cardio machine without my Ipod!! and I do the same thing...I go for 5-6 or 6-7 songs to make the time pass...those are my tiny little goals!

haha... ginger ale, the diet canada dry is really good. I have had a sticky cold for a bit and that stuff feels good. :)

Thanks all for the encouragement! :)

I use NPR while I do the elliptical, which is sometimes a drag and sometimes very interesting. But it's something anyway. Distraction can be good!

hey girlie.

just wanted to say what a GREAT start you have made so far. 10 lbs loss is awesome, and the fact you are improving your fitness is fantastic.

i remember when i first started the gym even 15 mins on elliptical or treadmill was torture , know if i don't get at least 30 mins it ruins my day lolz.

anyway welcome to WLF :D

Hi Vt mnt girl!! I'm from VT too but I live in Cali now. Good work so far!! 10 lbs is awesome!!!

Aww! All my VT girls are going to CA LOL

I went out there last spring, it was awesome. If I were single and didn't have a family totally opposing the idea, I'd move out there in a heartbeat. I really enjoyed the LA burbs while I was out there!

AWW Thanks! This feedback definately helps. I can't wait til I feel I can post pictures w/ some results. :)

It's hard when the differences aren't visible yet. ;)

yeha i agree.

i posted one pic but the others are too bad for me to post. I start feeling differances before i SEE them, which is tough but i guess normal.

how are u doing today?

Good! I did 2 x 15 mins on the elliptical. (couldn't do 30 all together w/ busy day) I hope to do another 15-30 around 8pm. I'm guilty of effing up my Lunch today and going fer 2nds :(

:waving: Hi! Congratulations on your weight loss so far! I really like your attitude; you sound positive and well-educated on what NOT to do to lose weight. Starvation is such a catch 22! Just terrible. Exercise & eating sensibly really is the way to go. I am certain your numbers will continue to fall!

Best wishes on your journey

PS :eh:rox for even MORE than just the Ginger Ale! hee hee

Thanks so much for the support! that helps keep me going :)

I just found this show on bbc America called "You Are What You Eat"

Pretty scary! I am definately trying to eat healthier stuff and cut cals at the same time. :biggrinjester:

Down 1 lb, up a few minutes

a entire 32 min straight on the elliptical. That's 102 fat cal and 320 total cals burned this morning (according to the LCD on the machine)

I'm feeling good about that! :)

I'm still struggling w/ my fat/carb ratios. They seem to dominate my daily calories :(

some of the carbs are GOOD carbs, some are refined. Most are good though. The fats, uggh... some good, some bad. Some EFA's which aren't measured on the fitday site.

I wish that there was a way to make chocolate that was all protein and didn't taste like crap. If I ever find a genie...:biggrinjester:

haha i hear ya.

im a chocolate fiend. bought some of the 60 cal Hershey's dark choc sticks and put them in the freezer. then if i crave chocolate i go get one an suck on it, cause its really hard and cold it lasts longer and i feel like im eating more. its yummmmmmmy

great job on the elliptical !

Thanks for the suggestion! I bought some sugar free Hershey's w/almonds. They aren't bad, but the choc is a bit different.

I pulled off another 20 min on the elliptical a little while ago. total of 52 mins. Just 8 more mins today and I'll have an hour. That's exciting :)

My fitness goal for March is the ability to do an entire hour straight in resistance intervals. :)
