Victoria's Diary

I have a bad habit of not sticking with things once I start them. I usually have a 3 week span of working on it then drop off after that with the "I don't care" excuses...

So here's to a fresh start!

My name's Victoria, I'm currently living in Orange county in southern California and am moving back home to Texas on Halloween '05. That's coming up soon and I'm really excited about it, looking forward to it - I'm moving in with my boyfriend!

I want to lose an ultimate goal of 50 lbs.

The time frame for reaching my target weight is one year - I'm not pushing myself to rush it because then I'll just see failure. I'll set mini goals along the way.

I'm eating 6-7 meals a day which is loosely modeled after the diet in the 6 week body makeover. I'm eating lean meats like chicken and tuna, veggies, brown rice, apples, etc. I am a member of 24 hour fitness and am temporarily (one more month) living a block from the beach so I have a work out facility at my disposal and a beach with a sidewalk for outdoor excursions. I plan on incorporating cardio work outs at least 5x a week and strength training is something I know how to do and had instruction on but need motivation for. Oh, right, and I'm drinking at least 8 12 oz glasses of water a day but that's a minimum I put up for myself. I usually double that amount for daily intake.

I'll need ya'll for support! I also have my friends here who are supporting me and giving me encouragement and advice.

I see my goal as realistic because I don't want to put a limitation on myself to get 20 lbs melted off in one month. I know it can be done, mostly at my height and weight, but I want this to be slow and healthy! I've done it quick too many times before and put the weight back on too fast.

Right now I'm 5'7" and 200 lbs. I do not have an exact number because I don't have a scale at home. There is one at the gym but I haven't gotten on in about a month or two. At that time I was 199, but I've been pretty steady at 200. Anyway, for accuracy's sake, I'll weigh myself when I go next so I have a starting point to look at.

Well, that's me!

My 1st & 2nd snack and lunch are similar because I was in a hurry this morning to pack up food to take with me to work so getting that food was easiest. I also didn't cook my chicken before.

Today I have an appointment to meet with someone after work at 530pm and it could last many hours (up to 5 hours) and I probably wont' get a workout in today. I do need a day off to rest, but I don't want to stop today just because of that. Maybe I can go for a walk on the beach after that at 1030....that'll be sooo late....Okay well the idea is to do so and get home and sleep BUT if I don't, I won't beat myself up over it.

****
Okay that appointment got canceled. No excuse now not to exercise AND I don't have to worry about sweating on my lunch break.

Victoria-
So glad to see you started a diary......And I am glad you want to take the weight off slowly......the chances of keeping it off is even better!!!!.....I just KNOW you will lose those 50 lbs!!!.....Whats great is when you move...we will still be here!!!!!
Remember..what works for one make not work for another.....try to find the right combination for yourself.......YOU CAN DO THIS GIRL!!!!!!

Thanks so much for the encouragement.

I decided to move my 12pm lunch to 1pm because then there wont' be that much time between my lunch and mid afternoon snack. Originally, meals were as follows: 530am, 10am, 12pm, 330pm, 7pm, 10pm. Now it is: 530am, 10am, 1pm, 4pm, 7pm, 10pm. If I eat a larger dinner, the PM snack doesn't come in. I wake up so early because I take the bus everywhere (no car) and it's too far to walk ;)

So I've drank 3 liters of water so far (approximately 96 oz) and for a treat, as well as a sweet tooth craving satisfaction, I'll give myself diet soda or flavored sparkling water. This Albertson's sparkling water has no sodium (Most carbonated beverages do) and it has no caffeine.

I heard someone mention they stayed away from caffeine. Any reasons why I should? I have been switching up my coffee intake. On some days I'll have 2 cups of coffee, others I'll have none. But now I'll have one cup of coffee, one cup of green tea. I got rid of the creamer and sugar and now use sweet and low or equal for sweetener. Oh yeah, the past week I've had a couple of Rockstars (energy drinks with massive amounts of caffeine and similar ingredients). So, again, should I be wary of caffeine?

Looks like your doing really well! Remember, keep practicing those small changes and they'll become healthy habits!

I went to the gym with a friend after work and did 32 minutes on the bike. The first 7 minutes was warm up and 25 minutes after that was a hill program at level 6 (not too intense). She wanted to leave to go eat and I wasn't near done getting my exericse in BUT I did get to exercise and get my heart beating good!

She got a ten day free pass for my gym, so I'll be going every day.

Now I'm eating dinner and no snack is coming into plan tonight.

you sound like you are doing AWESOME honey!!! keep up the good work, and way to stick to your plan!! You are like me however in that you add beverages throughout the day... i do that too... add some oj here, some juice there, coffee coffee everywhere... if you think you might drink it, plan for it too =)

Victoria~ I am glad you are not into cuttin' anymore. I started when I was 13.... It didnt get that bad though... I dont even know how I got into it, or started it.... but It ended when I was about 16-17.... then I guess I turned to other things.... but it's not important... I'm just glad you've been free for some time now!

I want to get at least 4.5 liters of water in today (I have a 1.5 liter bottle of water I can refill) and am going to the gym with a friend after work. She's picking me up from the bus stop and we're speeding off. There's a Turbo Kick Boxing class at my gym today @ 5:30pm so we're aiming for that. If we don't make it, I plan on doing some cardio today. I'm slacking on weight training, ugh!

Also, I incorporated a morning walk during my fifteen minute break in the morning, just to help me out on top of my current efforts. I've been doing it every day since Monday, Sept 26. Two weeks from that date, I"ll incorporate a walk during my afternoon break at work, too.

Weekends = no internet

So, today I'll be online until I leave work. Then I will not be back online until I come to work on Monday morning. My internet connection at home is being shut off today. (My friend's don't want to pay for the bill and I don't want to either because I'm moving in a month.) On that note, I'll be writing down my foods, putting alarms on my phone to write them down and remind me!

I also was thinking about the fact that I haven't weighed myself since I started this on Monday. What I did do Monday was wear a pair of pink pants with pinstripes to work. Those are one of my few TIGHT pairs of pants. Everything else remains baggy or gives the illusion of hiding. So, to check progress, I'll try those pants on as the weeks go by, see how big they get. I started at a size 16. We'll see how far I get by Oct 31. That's my mini goal of at least 10lb. AT LEAST! My ticker of 25 lbs lost is just where I want to look forward to.

Has anyone else had this habit: Wearing a lot of black. I thought it was because I liked the color, because it suits my personality. And true, it does suit my personality, and I do like the color. It ALSO hides my body and lets me avoid looking directly at it. For SO long I've tried hiding in clothes only to reveal my body to my eyes later. For SO long I've looked at myself in a mirror chest up, never looking at the waist, hips, thighs and overanalyzing what I did choose to see. This past week, I was wearing a black skirt (go figure) and pulled the skirt up to see my thighs in the mirror. WOW has it been SO long since I've actually looked at them. Not just a glance, LOOKED and I wanted to cry. I was wondering aloud to my friends that night HOW my boyfriend could have sex with me! (He loves me how I am, tells me so.) Now, I know I'm a lovely person bla bla bla....but I want my body to look good on the outside and feel good about it.

So with all that, I'm taking action. That's why I'm exercising. That's why I'm eating healthily. That's why I'm allowing myself to make life changes so that I can be better to myself.

Victoria, we all tried the hiding thing. I know I am guilty of it, and still am! I've phased black out of my wardrobe a while ago... Phil does not like black all the much, or was it my two fav black shirts I wore aLL THE TIME? anyway... I totally love black, and it DEFINATELY fits my personality.... Now I will wear black to special occasions and I will prob wear it to work when I get a job... so I guess it is not totally phased....
My thighs have to be bigger than yours. I dont know a single person with thighs like mine. I mean they are the biggest part of my body... When I am walking through the hall you better pick a door to jump through cause this girl will knock you down with these AMERICAN THIGHS, and hips and cant forget my booty...
BUT I love curves, my man loves curves.... now to just get them toned, and slighty slimer... it'll be all good!
Hope the pink pinstriped pants help you measure correctly, dont shrink them and dont overwear them, they might not give you an acurate reading ;) ....

Ah! Pinstripes are awesome.

I love black too, it's awesome. Not just because it's great for hiding, but I just love it (I must admit, I'm a tad bit of a goth...though not hard core...). I can't wait till I'm thin and go to Hot Topic and buy those awesome black pants with chains (I love teh shineys!) and make a corset (why buy when one knows how to sew it?)...ah, can't wait.

I feel extra gothy when I go to church, though. I usually wear a block poncho over whatever and usually wear either black boots, black (thick, high heeled) shoes, black platform sandals, and, depending, black fish net tights (that's all I have...I have black thigh highs, but they won't stay up!). And if I'm not wearing my poncho I'm wearing a jacket. Very rarely will I not wear somthing long sleeved to church...I'm very embaressed by my flabby arms! Bleh!

Your meal plan is looking really good! Keep up the good work!

Victoria, congratulations on starting a diary (and thanks for checking in on me in my diary). Looks like you have a good plan. I live in TX too, so welcome back this month.

I used to wear black a lot too. I was in a friend's bathroom one day and saw the size tag sticking out on her brightly colored swimsuit hanging on the towel rack. It was the same size as me. I always thought she was skinnier than me, and I realized she just hid it better. She wears lots of color all the time. I went out and bought a brightly colored (hot pink) floral swimsuit and my husband likes it much better than my old black ones. I don't look perfect in it, but I feel good in it and I think that shows. As I lose weight, I know it will look better. Now I consider color first, and try on colors I didn't think were "me" before.

Snack
Fruit
5 donut holes, cup of Cheezits, 2 slices of wheat bread, 2 tablespoons of peanut butter  :(

I'm going to work out at the gym. I haven't decided on a class (aerobics/ kick boxing/ step/ spin) or if I'm going to do cardio on a machine. More than likely, cardio on a machine. The classes help out because I don't pay attention to how much work I'm putting into it.
****
I did 65 minutes on the elliptical machine and burned 750 calories! My workout partner said, "Let's do a whole hour!" So I kept telling myself, 5 more minutes, 5 more minutes, then it turned into something feasible! It ended with a 5 minute cool down, so it was great!

The weekend passed .*.~.*.

Back online with internet access (none at home)!

Friday after work I went to the gym and did an hour long class called Turbo Kickboxing. It was fun and I was a complete spaz! I kept trying to follow the instructor's quick moves but my body kept trying to make up its own way of punching and kicking! It was fun and I was such a klutz, not keeping up because I didn't know what I (or the instructor) was doing, I had to laugh at myself. My friend went with me, but bailed after five minutes because she didn't like how she didn't know what she was doing - couldn't follow. I let myself be the overweight girl in the room being dorky. I even tripped a woman and apologized but she gave me this if-looks-could-kill-you'd-be-dead look so I didn't feel bad - I didn't mean to trip her! I'm just a klutz and if I had malicious intent, I'd see reason for the glare. My food finished up on Friday was as follows: Snack - 1 medium apple, 1.5 liters more of water, 1/2 cup of rice, 1 (or 2) oz of chicken. Dinner was 3-4 oz of chicken, green beans and water. I know I had cookies and salty stuff that night, too.

Saturday I worked out at the gym for 45 min on the elliptical machine and burned about 400 cals! Wow! I made myself keep going. I was so happy and proud that I kept on. I usually do 30 min of cardio and whew ~! Saturday's food was ehhh okay. I know I did my mini meals as well as I could then had a big salty salad and there were cookies that night. It was still a commendable food day.

Our roommates moved out Friday and took their fridge with them. Most of my food for healthy eating needs to be refrigerated. Now I have to wait to go grocery shopping until my new roommates buy a fridge. (I can't afford one!) I've been buying my food as it goes along - for every meal over the weekend. It gets expensive because I have to eat so often! (5-7x a day) Oh well, nothing I can do about it and everything's okay.

Sunday I blew it. I started well. I had green beans and turkey for breakfast. I went to the gym and did 45 min of the elliptical machine (YES!) Then I went to my friend's and we had a salad and I put goat's milk cheese on it and a balsamic vinagarette - cheese is a no-no and so is the salty dressing! (Retain water....) We also had chicken (which is good) but it was covered in seasoning and salt....overall the meal was good, and I let myself have it. Then came hell....but it wasn't - it was sooooooo good. I had Mexican food. I had a chicken chimi....oh delight!!! So there was the f-up but I let myself have that one, too.

I wasn't going to be able to eat correctly today because of no fridge (i.e. can't prepare meals and take 'em with me to work.) BUT I didn't let that go - I had canned tuna and canned green beans! I made all my meals right this morning and cooked up some instant brown rice for my lunch :) Woohoo!

So here I am and back on track!
