Valapalooza's Diary

Congrats on your progress!!!

I was looking at the Turbo Jam set also, but it seems expensive for something I'm not sure about. I've heard that it's REALLY hard for uncoordinated people. Can you let me know how you like it as the weeks go? I'd love to hear first hand how it goes.

cheering for you, Moon

I've got to be honest with you - what you've heard is probably quite true. I like to think of myself as being pretty coordinated- I used to dance and I can usually follow any workout video w/o a problem. TurboJam, on the other hand, was pretty tricky. Granted I've only worked on it for one day, but if I was having a great deal of difficulty with the moves, I can't imagine how an uncoordinated person would do. I guess it really depends on whether or not you get easily frustrated and whether or not you can improve your coordination by doing the learn & burn over and over again.

I do the Tae Bo tapes, but currently I can only finish the 30 minute one. and VERY out of breath and sweaty lol :p The hour one is still out of my reach. But I hope to work up to it! And something about staring at Billy Blanks nipples over and over o_O I dunno.... it's weird.

We should start a challenge for our birthdays!! How cool would it be if we could celebrate them together meeting a goal we set :D I'm all for it! If I could lose 30 pounds by then I'd be tickled pink. What do you think?

Yesterday was yet another session of chiseling. I had to go back down to using 5 lb weights because my muscles are SORE. The good sore of course, but sore all the same. We had a delicious seafood spectacular for dinner- and lots and lots of water.

Today, however, is yet another Tigers game. (If it doesn't get rained out, that is) And where there is baseball, there is unhealthy eating. Wish me luck!

one night of unhealthy eating won't undo the work you've done... no reason why you shouldnt enjoy yourself within reason... but you could enjoy being at the game, in the stadium, and pack some snacks that will satisfy you and not make you feel deprived...

Hey Val, sorry I haven't been by in a while .... darn computers crashing!!! You have been doing really well. Don't worry about that little stretch mark. It is always more noticeable to us than everyone else when things like that crop up. It will have faded some by the wedding anyway. Have you considered getting a bit of a slight tan (maybe just fake tan) before the wedding, just to make you feel a bit more confident about flashing your flesh. My sister used gradual self tan moisturiser in the run up to her wedding and it looked fab, and really natural ;)

Keep up the top work ;)

*reads discussion*
oooohkay... *makes mental note NOT to buy Turbo Jam DVD for self*
knowing me... I'd probably trip over myself. :p  ;)

heh. I'm glad to hear you're enjoying the workout though. Woot! Good for you!!

So let's just say I took the day off yesterday. I started off with a good breakfast and I even ordered a salad w/ smoked chicken for lunch... but then it went downhill from there. I didn't drink too much- especially not as much as I used to when I would go to a game- but I did end up eating one of those cookie ice cream sandwiches. It was SOOOO hot at the stupid game and SOOOO humid and my water wasn't making me feel any cooler- so I gave into the temptation. Those things have 520 calories in them!!!! Yikes! The good news, I think, is that I still tried to keep things in moderation- and since my Basal Metabolic Rate is 1903.1 and I was walking around quite a bit, I'm sure I just broke even. I don't mind a day of breaking even here and there- as long as most days have a nice deficit I'm good to go.

Today I am back on track- I had my Fiber One and Activia for breakfast, and I brough a lean cuisine, an apple and a 10calorie Jello to work. I think I'm going to do my typical chiseling routine and maybe even the 20 minute Turbo Jam cardio session to make up for yesterday:)

what's done is done.. and doesnt sound like you did all that badly... it could have been much worse :D you're back on the horse today which is great - no guilt... and today will be a better day :)

Have fun!

Hi, Val! Sorry I haven't check in for awhile, but things have been crazy here. I'm glad to hear that you're feeling better. You are doing so great on your exercise! I wish I was. I can do well for a couple of weeks, but then I slide back into being lazy again. You keep going and you'll be out of the 230's before you know it!

Do you like baseball too? I've loved baseball since I was 12 and have always been a Cardinals fan. I went to a game in St. Louis last month when I was on vacation and actually did pretty well, but I think that was mostly because food and drink are just so darned expensive at the ballparks anymore. And I don't know about your ballpark, but at Busch Stadium, they check your bags (even your purse) for food when you go through the gate. Can't even take peanuts and Cracker Jacks in anymore. Fortunately I don't get to many games in a year because it's a bit of a drive, otherwise I would probably eat more than I do.

Well, keep up the great work! Have a terrific weekend and enjoy whatever you do!

Hey dgillygal- thanks for dropping by- I wasn't a huge baseball fan when I was a kid because no one ever took me to the games, but the past few years I've grown to like it more and more.

I just wanted to post again because I realized that I forgot to mention something in my previous post. I've been kinda frustrated the past few days because the scale isn't moving (except for slightly up after yesterday)- so for some unknown reason I tried on a pair of shorts this morning that I bought about a month ago or so. I can get them on and off without unbuttoning and unzipping them! Yay! Finally I can feel a difference in an item of clothing. It's about time!

YAY thats awesome!!! I guess it's true that you can't really accurately read what's happening to you, by scale numbers alone. What a celebration day for you!!!!! :D Keep it up!!!!

I think that the way clothes are fitting is a much better indicator of how we're doing than the scale personally. THe scale is downright weird. Some days I'm down and I just know it's false and then a few days later, sure enough, I'm back up. So frustrating!

Anyhow, you have lost a tremendous amount of weight in a very short period of time - congrats!!! I'm sure you'll be meeting your goals before you know it.

Regarding baseball, thankfully our local Angels Stadium closed the yummiest fish-n-chips stand EVER ... that was my downfall when I went to a ball game. Now, I do ok. We usually take our own sandwiches in and then buy a treat for the girls and my husband. Not that we go too often, we just sometimes get free tix from my husband's work.

I think you did very good at the game. We need a maintenance day from time to time, just to remind our metabolism that we still need it to work :D . You probably did exactly the right thing for losing weight that day ;)

did you say without unbuttoning and unzipping them?

My god, woman!!! That is incredible. See we should always pay more attention to our clothes than the scale. So happy for you.

Hope you have a fab weekend!!!

Yay- the scale is back where it should be!! It's only a smidge lower than it was on Monday, but I'm just glad it's back down :) I've really been hitting the Turbo Jam hard- That workout makes me sweat disgustingly!!!- but at least I know I'm working!

that's awesome Val. I firmly believe we shouldn't be living by the scale (or at least try not to :p although I am a scale-fiend.) Clothes are the best indicator of weightloss. I'm very excited for you. Yay! :)

Sweating is good, the more you work out at the right intensity level, the more you sweat, so sweating is a big sign that you are burning lots of fat .... keep it going!!! :)

What is the Turbo Jam workout? Sounds excellent! I wish I could get myself to do more dvd work-outs!! Keep up that disgusting sweating!
